The Fynbos Shrubland Ecoregion is a designated region by One Earth. It is classified as a Mediterranean Forests, Woodlands & Scrub Biome. It is one of five ecoregions in the South African Cape Shrublands & Mountain Forests Bioregion.
It is differentiated from the Renosterveld Shrubland Ecoregion in that it receives more rainfall (approximately 650-2000 mm per year); comparatively the Renosterveld Shrubland ecoregion generally receives around 250-600 mm per year. The Fynbos Shrubland occupies a significant part of the coastal region, as well as coastal facing ridges that collect greater amounts of moisture.
