Cave where Hermes is said to have been born. The entrance to the huge underground labyrinth is from steep slope of a mount over ravine of Flambouritsa in the Mountains of Kyllini (Κυλλήνη, Ziria) in the Peloponnese, about 1660 m above sea level. It was especially revered by the inhabitants of Arcadia. As early as the 'Homeric' Hymn to Hermes (Hymni Homerici IV. In Hermam), it is described as the abode of the Cyllenian goddess or nymph Maia and the birthplace of Hermes. The terrain inside the cave is steep and dangerous!
