Cape May Historic District has been a National Historic Landmark since November 5, 1976. It covers the entire city of Cape May, in Cape May County, New Jersey including about 600 buildings . It can be considered the country's oldest seaside resort, serving in that function since about 1830. It was settled about 1650 by whalers and fishermen from Mass. and Long Island, but is known for its ensemble of late Victorian architecture that rose after a fire in the 1870s. It's at the Southern most point in New Jersey. About 22 of its buildings have been documented by the Historic American Buildings Survey.
