NSR 1 (later BEL 2) was built quickly on a wagon chassis in 1914, to replace steam locos sent to France during WWI. It worked at Bolton's copper works and sand sidings at Oakamoor on the Churnet Valley Line.
A second locomotive was built later for service in the West India Docks (BEL 1).
