The evolution of flight deck design of CATOBAR aircraft carriers

You can see its nomination at Commons:Valued image candidates/Aircraft carrier approach animations.

These three animations show the evolution of flight deck design on CATOBAR aircraft carriers. The USS Enterprise (CV-6) was commissioned in 1938 and had an axial flight deck. The HMS Centaur (R06) was commissioned in 1953 and has an angled flight deck. This allowed pilots that missed the arresting gear to safely take off again without either damaging their aircraft in safety nets, or damaging aircraft parked on the flight deck if the safety nets failed. The USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) was commissioned in 1977 and has an angled flight deck with offset recovery area.
