Hello, do you have any proof that this file is CC licensed? I can not find it on the source site [1]. -- Bryan (talk to me) 13:20, 29 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. Can you add a link to that resource list on all images that came from that website? Then other users won't be confused about the license anymore. Thanks. -- Bryan (talk to me) 09:14, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading Image:Janusz Wójcik2.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use cc-by-sa-2.5 to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or PD-self to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have uploaded other media, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find all your uploads using the Gallery tool. Thank you. I have undeleted it. You have 7 days to specify a license tag.--Jusjih 00:42, 12 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image deletion warning Image:Holy Trinity diagram.svg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this image, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. If the file is up for deletion because it has been superseded by a superior derivative of your work, consider the notion that although the file may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new file.
In all cases, please do not take the deletion request personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Yuval Y § Chat § 20:51, 10 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please, authorization must be sent to the Commons:OTRS system. Thank you. Dantadd 19:25, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The OTRS system is the only way to guarantee the honesty of an authorization. Unfortunately it's not possible to accept statements made by users (I can take a picture from the internet then declare I have an authorization that in fact I don't have). Another problem lies on the terms of each license: a lot of times the person that authorizes the use of a picture thinks that the image will be used only in Wikipedia, what isn't true. The OTRS is necessary to avoid futher problems, such as "I didn't give any authorization" or "The authorization I gave applied only for Wikipedia". Dantadd 22:27, 15 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Flickr images[edit]

Hi Zureks. Thanks for your uploads. When uploading images from flickr, please tag the page with Flickrreview, so an administrator or bot can verify the status. Thanks. Patstuart 19:11, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Why? I personally contacted the author (who by the way is on every single photo I am uploading here) and all the images are tagged with CC-BY so there is no confusion there whatsoever. --Zureks 19:15, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's simply a policy we have on commons. It's vaguely outlined at Commons:Flickr images. It's not that we don't trust you (in fact, your uploads were correct in this instance), it's that sometimes people mistag images from flickr (happens with surprising frequency), or someone from flickr will change their license; we need verification that all is kosher. Patstuart 19:18, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK. Thanks. So do you want me to tag the rest of them (around 1300) or should I just keep this tag off? --Zureks 19:21, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Goodness, if you've uploaded all of those from flickr, I would say you should tag them, yes. You might ask for help at the village pump in having a bot do it though. Patstuart 19:23, 28 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Would you please instead do a mass nomination for these? Unless the reason for deletion is very clear, I would not speedy so many images, since uploading so many is not an easy mistake to make. – Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 04:47, 26 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. There seems to be something odd going on with Image:Martin_Evans_Nobel_Prize.jpg: specifically, the file size and image dimensions recorded in the Commons database don't seem to match the actual file. This might be because someone — possibly you — uploaded a new version of it at some point, but due to a software bug the upload wasn't properly recorded as a new version, and ended up silently overwriting the original file instead. I'd appreciate it if you could check the image and reupload either the current version (to simply correct the database record) or whatever version you think should be there. Thanks in advance, and sorry to bother you with this. —Ilmari Karonen (talk) 22:05, 12 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I'm trying to use the article on the Bart Simpson article at the en-wikipedia, which is a FAC, and I'm told that the image needs to go through OTRS. I don't suppose you still have a copy of the e-mail in which permission was given to you to use it? (if you don't mind, could you please respond here? I rarely check Commons). Thanks, Scorpion0422 (talk) 01:10, 27 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

FAC. In order for us to be able to use the image, you need to confirm it through OTRS. So, if you still have a copy of the e-mail, you'll need to forward it to the address provided at

Image permissions[edit]

Thanks for fixing that, I had copied the information from another image I uploaded, and forgot to change the license. Just to let you know, you forgot to remove the OTRS pending template on File:BrandonTJackson09.jpg, so I think we're even. No just kidding, you're way ahead by completing so many of the image permissions, and I really appreciate it. Thanks for all of your help and happy editing! --Nehrams2020 (talk) 22:19, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A Flickr user who's images I have been uploading has also uploaded some images on the German Wikipedia. I moved them to commons, but one of the images (File:DanielPowterJan09.jpg) had an OTRS ticket on it (I copied it here, click edit on your talk page to see the details within the template: Template:URV-OTRS). Is there a way to transfer that ticket to this image here? I had used the CommonsMover tool and it didn't transfer the ticket. Also the other image that I moved (File:MarcForsterColorNov08.jpg) was the exact same image as File:MarcForsterNov08.jpg except it's color. I copied the OTRS ticket from my first upload to the new one. Is that okay or do you have to redo the OTRS ticket for that one as well? Hello, Zureks!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

File:Artur_Wichniarek.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

OTRS tickets[edit]

Hi Stan is this the Stan Zurek who deals with OTRS ticketing. Its just I have a number of OTRS tickets outstanding and am concerned that they haven't been sorted out yet. I think the OTRS ticketing is too slow. I think the commons should accept the emails I send them which state "Wikipedia is granted the use of images under Creative Commons Attribution 3.0". Its time I was trusted as a user on here. Its just you having to chase up every agreement to confirm it is the truth is too tedious. It is also not a good idea sending people emails saying we reserve the right to mess with your work and create deriratives etc. Most people are fully aware of the attribution license but if you rub it in that people can profit from their work they are likely to change their mind and rethink. I am going to great lengths to make these agreements so I'd appreciate it if it could be done more easily.Dr. Blofeld (talk) 22:43, 8 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

I didn't undelete the pictures yet, when I look at them the look like scans from magazines. The images are in very bad quality and like from a time period within 20 years.

Are you sure the permission is valid?

Best regards, Abigor talk 05:24, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your fast response, I will use agf and undelete the files later today. Your right that it can be scans from photos :) Abigor talk 09:40, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks[edit]

Thank you for the barnstars, I appreciate it! Please realize that you put in just as much work as me in adding the permission for each image. I'll keep up with adding the images and I hope you're there to prevent them from getting deleted. Thanks again and happy editing! --Nehrams2020 (talk) 20:56, 25 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

OTRS[edit]

Thanks for your help! Finn Rindahl (talk) 23:21, 23 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for notifying me. The file page now says the permission was double checked. Does this mean the issue is dealt with? Best wishes. Hekerui (talk) 08:12, 6 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Oman images[edit]

Hello Stan. A very kind Dutchman has changed the licenses on all his Oman images here per request. Extremely kind of him. Can you help me upload the ones (excluding the ones of himself and family of course) to the commons?Dr. Blofeld (talk) 13:50, 21 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

LOL not every agreement has to go through OTRS. Some editors are willing to change the licensing on flickr thesmevles which in my view saves a lot of trouble! Don't worry we now have around 250 images from Oman uploaded.Dr. Blofeld (talk) 12:00, 7 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm being spammed in the commons with deletion warning messages, including the Michael Crichton image, images I was under the impression I had sent commons permission to back in January. Given that I receive hundreds of emails every month I doubt I have the emails of confirmation any longer. Perhaps you could be so kind as to at least contact Jon Chase of Harvard for File:MichaelCrichton.jpg in the source provided on that image to stop these images being unnecessrily deleted? Thanks for uploading File:Robert Czebotar.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the No permission since tag with on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

The file probably has been deleted. If you sent a permission, try to send it again after 14 days. Do not re-upload. When the VRT-member processes your mail, the file can be undeleted. Additionally you can request undeletion here, providing a link to the File-page on Commons where it was uploaded (:File:Robert Czebotar.jpg) and the above demanded information in your request.

File:StacyKeachMay07.jpg[edit]

After I uploaded the image, I sent the author a message detailing where the image was located as well as how the author's name was attributed. I asked if she had any questions about the image and she didn't point out any problems. By the way a lot of authors ask where/when the image will be released, namely since they want to be able to see the image being used on the Wikipedia article(s). That's why I always send thank you/informational notices to the authors after I upload their images. Let me know if you need any further clarification. --Nehrams2020 (talk) 17:22, 18 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The message was sent through Flickr mail, so I don't get a copy of the mail sent to my e-mail. Do you want me to copy the message that I sent (and either paste it into a new e-mail or paste here on your talk page)? It's basically the same message I use for all authors once they give permission to allow use of the image. --Nehrams2020 (talk) 07:01, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I copied the message and replied to your initial e-mail to me. Let me know if any further action is necessary. --Nehrams2020 (talk) 20:25, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
