Wiki Loves Earth France 2019 a commencé !

Bonjour ,

Bonne journée, Sarah Krichen WMFr (talk) 08:58, 9 May 2019 (UTC)

Timeless Newsletter • Issue 4

Newsletter • April 2019

Welcome to the fourth issue of the Timeless newsletter, with a cat! Or maybe not.

Un chat qui miaule???

It's true! The angry cat, a fundamental part of Timeless, has resulted in confusion and bug reports all across the projects and phabricator. And now it shall be immortalised forever in the new, shiny Timeless logo.

Updates:

After putting off the project for three months because I got hit in the head with a flight of stairs, and then putting off the project for another two months while working out what the status of the grant was, I have now put off the project even more in order to focus on my other project for a bit. So progress lately has been a bit whims-based as a result:

Radar:

  • The French Wiktionary voted to set Timeless as their default skin, with results possibly as you might expect: I ran away and hid, and the WMF said no. A bit of discussion later and we largely agreed that all else aside, this is a bit of a branding issue, but we love the enthusiasm! Also the bug reports that inevitably come out of such a discussion. I'm still working on properly going through those.
  • Theme support is still stuck in limbo, but now we have another skinning RfC. tl;dr, we wanna replace the entire skinning system, and Skizzerz'll write a prototype later.

I will be fully resuming work on Timeless next week, or maybe the week after, depending on what madness (or illness) comes out of the Hackathon in Prague. Please come talk to me there to discuss strategy!

Cropped version of La Ligne claire.jpg

Hi there,

could you please close Commons:Deletion requests/File:Fiorina Lignier.jpg as kept, since the original version was marked as "passed" by your bot on the previous 4th of May?

Thanks in advance, best regards, Nomen ad hoc (talk) 16:31, 22 May 2019 (UTC).

FlickreviewR 2

Hello Zhuyifei1999! Has FlickreviewR 2 stopped working? Or does it only run periodically? Thanks, Gaia Octavia Agrippa (talk) 18:49, 29 May 2019 (UTC)

Yep I noticed that too, it's not working. CptViraj (Talk) 03:27, 30 May 2019 (UTC)
Restarted --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 03:48, 30 May 2019 (UTC)

Strange error message on Quarry

For the last few days I haven't been able to successfully run this query. Every time it has been killed due to timeout. Today however the query reports quite a new error: Unknown column 'img_user_text' in 'field list'. The image table has not been changed. --jdx Re: 15:18, 4 June 2019 (UTC)

It is deprecated, you have to join the new actor table: https://quarry.wmflabs.org/query/36616 --Steinsplitter (talk) 15:23, 4 June 2019 (UTC)
@Steinsplitter: Thanks, your query works as expected, although I have modified it a bit – actor_name instead of actor_user should be used in CONCAT('User:', actor_name). Also I wonder why there is no information on mw:Manual:image table that img_user_text is deprecated. --jdx Re: 16:17, 4 June 2019 (UTC)
Ooops... :o The change is brand new (wikitech:News/Actor storage changes on the Wiki Replicas) and it is likely breaking a lot of tools (i have to fix a number of tools/scripts :/). There seems to be a {name of table}_compat table, but not tested yet if everything is replicated there. --Steinsplitter (talk) 16:22, 4 June 2019 (UTC)

Hidden content in VFC

Hello, just in reaction to your “I don't see anything hidden”: Check, how my userpage looks on the left and then check against this image, Note that I intentionally reduced the window size, but the issue is unrelated. Then after VFC started look for the lightgreen switch box on this image; clicking this switch activates Regex syntax, but it is barely visible. (Images will be deleted after some time.) — Speravir – 00:52, 9 June 2019 (UTC)

The regex button being so out looks like a bug to me --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 01:28, 9 June 2019 (UTC)
Thanks for fixing this! I will delete the images in some days. — Speravir – 03:45, 9 June 2019 (UTC)

Structured Data - testing qualifiers for depicts

As you might have seen, testing is underway for adding qualifiers to depicts statements. If you have not left feedback already, the Structured Data on Commons development team is very interested in hearing about your experience using qualifiers on the file page and in the UploadWizard. To get started you can visit Test-Commons and chose a random file to test out, or upload your own file to try out the UploadWizard. Questions, comments, and concerns can be left on the Structured data talk page and the team will address them as best as they can. Thank you for your time. -- Keegan (WMF) (talk) 19:08, 11 June 2019 (UTC)

User script suggestion

Hi Zhuyifei1999, I would like to suggest to you a user script that might be helpful to patrollers. My idea is that maybe a script that is a combination of MediaWiki:PatrolPageRevisions.js and QICvote, where the patroller can patrol a particular user's edit all at once and choosing which ones to mark as patrolled. This will be very useful where the patrolled user (especially IPs) is doing good faith edits, such as further categorizing large galleries into smaller sub-categories (see this IP user's edits). Do {tl|Ping}} me on your thoughts and have a nice day. 大诺史 (talk) 16:50, 14 June 2019 (UTC)

@大诺史: You can use RTRC's mass-patrol feature to do that --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 18:27, 14 June 2019 (UTC)

Wayback Machine and FlickreviewR 2

Re. this discussion, would it be possible to set up simultaneous Flickr archival for FlickreviewR 2? (I forgot about this but I think this would still be useful, and it shouldn't be particularly difficult to set up.) Jc86035 (talk) 13:11, 20 June 2019 (UTC)

@GreenC: Re. the discussion, did you test if pages were already being archived? I don't think they are but it would be useful if you double-checked anyway. Jc86035 (talk) 13:11, 20 June 2019 (UTC)

Jc86035, no not being archived. In a way this is kind of understandable since each image page on Commons should have at least one external link to that image. Thus the Wayback archives would be the size of Commons. But it would actually be orders of magnitude larger since Wayback does periodic snapshots with multiple copies. Not sure how many gazillion bytes that would be. -- GreenC (talk) 13:48, 20 June 2019 (UTC)
Turns out about 212 terabytes per copy of Commons. -- GreenC (talk) 19:57, 20 June 2019 (UTC)

Conflict

@Zhuyifei1999: Please, could you solve this conflict? File:Álvaro Conrado.jpg File:Álvaro Conrado (cropped).jpg --Xoaw (talk) 21:46, 20 June 2019 (UTC)
@Zhuyifei1999: Please--Xoaw (talk) 21:47, 20 June 2019 (UTC)
I don't understand what you are asking me to do. --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 02:21, 21 June 2019 (UTC)

Suggestion

Hello, do you think it would be possible to add the cropdetect/crop functionality yo video2commons? Thanks, — Racconish💬 22:05, 20 June 2019 (UTC)

It's possible, but I have no time to do it. That's no minor functionality. If someone implements it I'd be happy to review the code and potentially merge it. --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 02:22, 21 June 2019 (UTC)

FlickreviewR 2, source ?

Hey Zhuyifei1999,

Are you okay to provide the source of FlickreviewR 2 ? I plan to create a bot to auto review sounds from sound-cloud. If you are not okay, that's okay, but in that case could you please create the bot. Thanks -- Eatcha (talk) 14:15, 18 June 2019 (UTC)

@Eatcha: Since when is https://github.com/eatcha-wikimedia/FlickreviewR-2 the primary repo? I won't be updating it if the code changes. --Zhuyifei1999 (talk) 20:04, 24 June 2019 (UTC)
