FPC[edit]
I liked one of your images so much that I nominated it for FPC! Commons:Featured_picture_candidates/Image:Stinkhorn_Springbrook.jpg. Adam Cuerden 10:08, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
Aye, weel, I suppose I and he just have a slightly different view of FP - I think that for extremely poorly-covered subjects (ARE there even any fungi FPs?) that raising the bar too high causes them to get no recognition, and thus no moves to make more good-quality images. Great pictures![edit]
Hi Mike - just wanted to say three things. Firstly, great pictures. Secondly, you might like to update your picture at Eveleigh to call it a "traverser", not a "traveller" - traverser is apparently the correct term for it (the Government report on Eveleigh redevelopment calls it that). Thirdly, how did you take that picture of Milsons Point wharf without including the Harbour Bridge? That seems very difficult to do - it's like it almost isn't there. JROBBO (talk) 01:37, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks. I've changed it to traverser. Wharf without bridge involves a long-ish focal length and keeping the frame low enough to stay under the bridge. Also helps that the wharf is nearly under the bridge now (I'm sure it used to be nearer to Luna Park before). I've also linked it to the Wikipedia article and included a thumbnail there. WikiWookie (talk) 08:18, 26 November 2008 (UTC)
- The Sydney Monorail also has a traverser to transfer monorails between the main loop and the storage area - I'll try to get a good picture of that as well. WikiWookie (talk) 08:21, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

Where in the Rocks?[edit]
Hey Mike... Where in the Rocks did you take the picture of the stairs?
Easiest way to see is click on the location link - Google maps works ok. I'll try to remember to add the street name to the description too. 101.170.127.227 04:33, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
Updated the description and adjusted the location. It now works well in Google Maps. Stairs are on the eastern side of Lower Fort St just north from the Hero of Waterloo. Mike Young (WikiWookie) (talk) 04:04, 10 October 2013 (UTC)
Reminder: Round 2 of Picture of the Year 2016 is open![edit]
You are receiving this message because you voted in R1 of the 2016 Picture of the Year contest.
Dear WikiWookie,
Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2016 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the eleventh edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2016) to produce a single Picture of the Year.
Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.
There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1475 candidate images. There are 58 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top #1 and #2 from each sub-category.
In the final round, you may vote for just one or maximal three image to become the Picture of the Year.
Round 2 will end on 20 April 2017, 23:59:59 UTC.
Thanks,
--Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee 08:43, 16 April 2017 (UTC)
