Flinfo[edit]

You can use http://wikipedia.ramselehof.de/flinfo.php?id=2872180805 to automatically create a information template of any flickr file. --McZusatz (talk) 10:51, 19 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]

File:Mcgi kel.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

REPLY: I admit I am still new at Wikipedia/Wikimedia. But I uploaded this image from Flickr with proper attribution, because the uploader allows for its free use under Creative Commons provisions. I am not uploading the original painting or an image of the painting itself, but only what the Flickr uploader himself/herself created with clear permission under CC to use it for non-commercial purposes, so I am not sure why or how the restrictions on the painting, even if it is 78 years old instead of 95 year old as a cut-off, would be relevant in this case. Thanks.

✓ Deleted all. Please contact me if you have problems with OTRS. --McZusatz (talk) 19:49, 20 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
REPLY: Will do. Thanks for your help.Waov12 (talk) 01:24, 21 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I contacted one of our photographers and he readily agreed to allow me to use his photos at Flickr for Wikipedia. But he said his problem is that he did not get a "model release" from any of the people he took photos of. How would we address that issue? What do I need to show to Wikimedia to prove that he consented? Thanks.Waov12 (talk) 06:12, 21 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
If the photo was taken on some public event, it should not be a problem. If he confirmed to publish the image under any accepted licence (cc-by-sa-3.0 e.g.), please forward his message to the Mail address stated at com:otrs. Keep in mind that we can not accept wikipedia-only use. --McZusatz (talk) 17:35, 21 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Does he send a one-sentence email to the OTRS email and just indicate that he agrees to have others publish his photos under cc-by-sa-3.0 or does he need to identify each of these photos (by title or some other reference)? Thanks.Waov12 (talk) 18:07, 21 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Not a single sentence please. The whole text quoted at the OTRS page, please. And it would be better if he linked to the Images by URL. (I can undelete some of the images here on commons if you want me to.) --McZusatz (talk) 20:25, 21 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks but no need to undelete. We can begin from scratch. I contacted him again and gave him all the information, including the URLs. We are starting with two pictures at a time (http://www.flickr.com/photos/mr_quan_nguyen/2532903076/ and http://www.flickr.com/photos/mr_quan_nguyen/2529198139/in/photostream/) to see if this works. He said he already sent the release form for these first two pictures. Please confirm. Please also advise how I can slightly modify the pictures that I will upload to Wikipedia in order to reduce their sizes by removing a few people/characters on the edges of each photo. Thanks. Waov12 (talk) 00:57, 22 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I am sorry, I can not confirm the OTRS ticket. I do not have access to the OTRS ticket system. I hope this will work. Once the files are uploaded I can instruct you about the cropping...
Otherwise it also would be possible if he changed the licence directly on flickr to an appropriate cc-licence (cc-by) (cc-by-sa). --McZusatz (talk) 02:03, 22 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I will contact you again for the cropping. For now, would you happen to know how I could find out if the OTRS ticket is approved? Is there a queue for newly approved or authorized or licensed images in Wikimedia that I could check from time to time? Thanks.Waov12 (talk) 04:37, 22 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I am not sure about that, but they will likely answer the Mail from the photographer. So he will know first. There is no publicly accessible queue. And keep in mind that the backlog is quite high (~1 Month) right now. --McZusatz (talk) 17:17, 22 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Got it. Thanks for your reply.Waov12 (talk) 23:21, 22 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hi. I need help now to resize/crop the file photo (File:Proud graduates.jpg) so that it does not come out too small as a thumb image when I use it for the Wikipedia article. Thanks for your help and suggestions.Waov12 (talk) 14:12, 19 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Convocation week.jpg. This media is missing permission information. A source is given, but there is no proof that the author or copyright holder agreed to license the file under the given license. Please provide a link to an appropriate webpage with license information, or ask the author or copyright holder to send an email with copy of a written permission to VRT (permissions-commons@wikimedia.org). You may still be required to go through this procedure even if you are the author yourself; please see Commons:But it's my own work! for more details. After you emailed permission, you may replace the {{No permission since}} tag with {{subst:PP}} on file description page. Alternatively, you may click on "Challenge speedy deletion" below the tag if you wish to provide an argument why evidence of permission is not necessary in this case.

Please see this page for more information on how to confirm permission, or if you would like to understand why we ask for permission when uploading work that is not your own, or work which has been previously published (regardless of whether it is your own).

Warning: unless the permission information is given, the file may be deleted after seven days. Thank you.

I had personally requested the author/owner of these images to share and upload them in Wikimedia. The author/owner, Quan Nguyen, sent his written permission/form to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org on January 21, 2013. Then he uploaded these images yesterday because he had already granted permission a month ago. I really do not know what else to do. It seems that no matter how we try to do things legitimately, we are gifted with penalties and deletion notices. If Wikimedia will just check, they will definitely and immediately find the permission forms that you have indicated in the gigantic notices on this page. Thanks. Waov12 (talk) 01:21, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You're right. The ticket number is ticket:2013021810000492 - I added the correct templates on the files. Thanks for uploading the images and apologies for the removal templates; we have so many images and OTRS tickets to deal with that it's almost impossible to work without making mistakes. We're all human you know. :) If you need help from an OTRS volunteer you may go to COM:OTRS/Noticeboard; for admin help we have COM:Administrators' noticeboard. With regards, Trijnsteltalk 20:51, 20 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Not a problem. I am very glad to know that everything is fine now and will contact an OTRS volunteer soon for cropping the images. Thanks for your help.Waov12 (talk) 06:40, 22 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
You do not need to contact an OTRS volunteer to crop the images. You can do it by yourself or you could use user:cropbot. --McZusatz (talk) 17:49, 22 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
