What are the two objects in front of Zvezda?[edit]

@Voteins: I've seen you've helped work on this. What are the two rectangular-like objects in front of Zvezda? They're unlabeled. Also, what mission were they sent up on? Not only that, but I've never seen any pictures of them, so, what part of the station are they currently located at? Yuri Alexeyevich Gagarin (talk) 18:59, 21 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Yuri Alexeyevich Gagarin: This turned out to be a rather complex question to answer. In May 2011 the original artist adapted this diagram from this circa 2007 NASA image. They neglected to label the objects in question, but in the original source the are clearly identified as SM MMOD (Service Module Micro-Meteoroid and Orbital Debris) shields.
Greater detail about the SM MMOD shields are given in this paper, including the information that circa 2006 they scheduled for launch on Shuttle flight ULF4 in 2009-2010. ULF4 was eventually flown in May 2010 as STS-132, the final shuttle assembly flight to the ISS. The SM MMOD shields were not installed at this time, and although I am unable to find any direct confirmation of this the SM MMOD shields appear to have been cancelled.
By the time the artist adapted the picture in 2011 all shuttle flights had been completed, apparently leading them to assume that all components labeled in the NASA image as pending US launch had already been installed. This was not the case for the ill-fated SM MMOD shields, which no longer appear in NASA produced diagrams of the ISS. Very good catch Yuri, no one seems to have noticed this error for the past 6 years, myself included.Voteins (talk) 21:37, 21 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Diagram Changes Needed[edit]

@Voteins: There are now five things I believe should be done, now that you've that you've removed the cancelled shields.

1. N.-I.-C.-E.-R. has been successfully launched and is being attached to the station, so, in the diagram, it should be changed from blue to orange.
2. Pressurized Mating Adapter 3 has been re-located to the zenith berthing area of Harmony, so, in the diagram, that needs to be changed.
3. I see you already have Nauchno-Energeticheskogo Modulya 1 on Uzlovoy's port side, but there's also going to be a space-craft identical to Nauchno-Energeticheskogo Modulya 1, Nauchno-Energeticheskogo Modulya 2, that will be attached to Uzlovoy's port side, so, in the diagram, that needs to be added.
4. The full name of the space-craft you've labeled as "OKA-T" is actually "Oka-T-MKS", with the "k" and the "a" being lowercase, and with there being "-MKS" after the "-T", so, in the diagram, that should be changed.
5. The NanoRacks Airlock Module is going to be launched and attached to Tanquility's port berthing area in 2019, so, in the diagram, that should be added.

(Thanks for removing the cancelled shields, and, if you update the diagram again, thanks again in advance.) Yuri Alexeyevich Gagarin (talk) 19:15, 6 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
