Thanks for uploading Image:Strigino.jpg. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the media on Wikimedia Commons (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page. If the content is a derivative of a copyrighted work, you need to supply the names and a licence of the original authors as well.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag, then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then you can use {{self|cc-by-sa-2.5}} to release it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license or {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Hello

thanks for your uploads

Unfortunetely, when you uploaded pic in reference, you forgot license and by this way this one runs risk of deletion. Could you tag it with a valid license as your other pics.

Thanks for reminding. I put one in. Vmenkov 03:03, 16 April 2007 (UTC)

Alhadeff Sanctuary

Image:Seattle-Alhadeff-Sanctuary-3603.jpg and Image:Seattle-Alhadeff-Sanctuary-3604.jpg: is the Alhadeff Sanctuary really on Capitol Hill? I'd think of it more as First Hill (it's below Madison). No big deal, but maybe it should at least be in both categories? - en:Jmabel | talk 18:28, 18 May 2007 (UTC)

Right you are! The "official" south border of Capitol Hill in the area is Pike St, so Alhadeff Sanctuary is just half a block south of it. The First Hill article says that border between First Hill and Central District is "indetermined", somewhere between 12th and 18th Ave - so the synagogue, being between 15th and 16th, may belong to either First Hill or Central. You're welcome to re-categorize the image(s) (there may be 2 or 3) as you feel most appropriate, and the appropriate Wikipedia articles too, if you care. Vmenkov 20:02, 18 May 2007 (UTC)
I will, then. I'll categorize it in both First Hill & the CD, and I'll take the image out of en:'s Capitol Hill article, since we are by no means short of images that really are on the Hill. - en:Jmabel | talk 00:23, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
I see you beat me to it on the re-categorization! - en:Jmabel | talk 00:24, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Image:San-Marino-vista-1282.JPG

What town is pictured in Image:San-Marino-vista-1282.JPG? It looks like Borgo Maggiore, but I'm not sure.

I checked on WikiMapia, and yes, that's what it is. Vmenkov 21:33, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Image:Kadina-snails-climb-fence-0716.jpg

Hi Vmenkov, I was examining your image and I am almost certain that this is not Cernuella virgata but Theba pisana, another introduced species which is larger, has more rounded whorls, and is gradually overtaking the "common white snail" in southern Australia. Do you by any chance have a closer image of these snails? Thanks. if you want to reply to me, please use my talk page on Wikipedia. Thanks. Invertzoo 13:39, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Yes, there is a close-up, Image:Kadina-snails-climb-fence-0717.jpg. I have more pictures on my computer, and if you want, can post them as well. You're welcome to use your malacological knowledge to correct the captions and category (and perhaps maybe also create at least stub Wikipedia articles on both species, as they are both white and common and Asutralia). Vmenkov 23:36, 11 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks Vmenkov! Nice image. Yes, good idea: I will make the stub articles when I return from my 3-week vacation/field trip which is starting this Sunday. I see there is actually yet another species in this new image! Cool. I think I may know what this third one is too, but I will try to check on that. If you have any other close-ups I would like to see them. Thanks again. Invertzoo 00:47, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi again Vmenkov. I corrected the species indentification in the description of that image, and I added these two additional species to the Australian section of the List of invasive species on Wikipedia. I will see if I can create nice stub articles for both species today or tomorrow. Thanks for your images! You said that you have some more photos of the on your computer, and if so can you load them up if you have not already done so? Again, thanks a lot for your nice images Invertzoo (talk) 14:43, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Invertzoo, thanks for the articles! As already mentioned, the photos have been uploaded here: User:Vmenkov/Snails. Vmenkov (talk) 00:28, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

Image:C0474-NN-Sakharov-house.jpg

As you have taken this pic of the Sakharov Museum, you must know where exactly the building is.
Would you hence please be so kind to verify/correct the Museum's placement on
http://wikimapia.org/#lat=56.2505986&lon=43.9664268&z=16&l=5&m=h&v=2

The location currently shown on the Wikimapia is incorrect. The apartment building I took a picture of (where, I believe, Sakharov's Apartment Museum is located) is a kilometer or so to the south. That building is SE of Gagarin Ave (known at that section as Academician Sakharov Ave, пр. Академика Сахарова), and SW of Military Commissars' St. (ул. Военных Комиссаров). Both streets are labeled on Google Maps (and, thus, on the Wikimapia map), so I should be able to correct the location there once I get to a computer with a broadband access - maybe within a week or two. Vmenkov 11:30, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
The correct location (a mile or so to the south from the one you've mentioned) - was already marked on Wikimapia, at http://wikimapia.org/#lat=56.2318422&lon=43.9516211&z=16&l=0&m=h&v=2 . So I have just copied the description from your entry to this one. I suggest you delete your entry now; if you don't, I can do it myself eventually. Vmenkov 22:20, 8 June 2008 (UTC)

There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful informations about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

Who is creator of this painting, so you could take a photo of? Newone (talk) 05:07, 27 October 2008 (UTC)

I don't beleieve I saw the name of the painter (or the painters, sculptors, and architects who created other artwork) posted anywhere in the temple. The signs do say that the temple is several centuries old, so the painting most likely qualifies as
Public domain

This work is in the public domain in its country of origin and other countries and areas where the copyright term is the author's life plus 70 years or fewer.

You must also include a United States public domain tag to indicate why this work is in the public domain in the United States. Note that a few countries have copyright terms longer than 70 years: Mexico has 100 years, Jamaica has 95 years, Colombia has 80 years, and Guatemala and Samoa have 75 years. This image may not be in the public domain in these countries, which moreover do not implement the rule of the shorter term. Honduras has a general copyright term of 75 years, but it does implement the rule of the shorter term. Copyright may extend on works created by French who died for France in World War II (more information), Russians who served in the Eastern Front of World War II (known as the Great Patriotic War in Russia) and posthumously rehabilitated victims of Soviet repressions (more information).

Greetings from Greece

Dear Vmenkov,

Greetings from Greece.

I am writing to seek your permission to post some of your photos (which appear in the Vmekov user page on wikipedia.org) on our web site http://www.theodora.com/wfb (for an example click on NEW ZEALAND and on the next page click on the PHOTOS button at the bottom right). Of course, we will acknowledge the source of the photo.

Regards,

Photius Coutsoukis

Hello Photius: Since the images are already released under Creative Commons and GFDL licenses, you of course can use them. It would be nice if one the source acknowledgment included a link to the original Wiki Commons page of the photo (e.g. http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Lugou-Bridge-east-end-relief-3577.jpg ), so that the user of the site could access additional context (such as other photos from the same category, linked wiki pages, etc). Regards, - Vladimir. Vmenkov (talk) 00:10, 9 February 2009 (UTC)

Thank you for your response.

I can do as you suggested for some photos that I will use from your collection. But I would also like to post other photos, with the full description that you have posted (I always include the full description where available), plus acknowledgment of the source, but without the link, so as to avoid having too many external links, which would not favor the site with the search engines. You can see examples of this on my pages that can be reached through at: http://www.allcountries.org/photos/new_zealand
