A stage-manager is'nt actor

Hi you edit this, but there is "ügyelő" means "stage-manager", he is not an actor.... He have talent (i see him as understudy), but... can you correct this? Thank you! Fauvirt (talk) 12:10, 25 March 2016 (UTC)

In hu-wiki they say he is "színész, színházi ügyelő és színházi titkár". Doesn't that mean he is an actor, too? I added now the picture in category for theatrical managers. --Velma (talk) 12:40, 25 March 2016 (UTC)

Oh, i see now.. it is a bit exaggerated, he attended school what is an a three-year training for young people who in the theater interested are and he was extras/ figurant (? in hungarian: statiszta) in plays, but he was never have been used as actor... sorry for him, but this is the true.. i can the theatre were he works...

I'm going to remove categories which are misspelled, against guidelines or otherwise not needed in my opinion, so I'm not going to stop. Feel free to create new categories if you think they are needed or otherwise right categories. --Velma (talk) 09:58, 14 February 2018 (UTC)

Just wanted to say thank you, I've noticed you fixing overcategorized photos in China. I don't know why some photographers there overcategorize their photos. Sometimes I've removed 8+ categories. Reasonable categorization

Hello.
Could you please not project such maps as File:Карта Российской империи 1766г Европейская часть Париж 1766г.jpg to upper-level category: Maps of Russia? There is an appropriate subcategory Old maps of the Russian Empire; generally all more than 80-years-old should go to Old maps of Russia and similar. Incnis Mrsi (talk) 06:41, 6 September 2018 (UTC)

People categories

category pre-fill buttons

Hey Velma, On a category-creation-page there are these buttons that pre-fill it with a couple elements. For "people" it fills it with the category "People by name" and the {{DEFAULTSORT}} template. I've written a little script that improves on this functionality by attemptint to fill out the DEFAULTSORT template. yeah, they're in a real blind spot, and not multilingual :( until recently it still promoted the old way of making interwiki links [1]. I've listed a couple of other tricks in my user space. I've seen you use cat-a-lot, but do you know the VisualFileChange? It's a fairly powerful tool that lets you batch edit files, like replacing typos when a name is misspelled in multiple files you can do a "custom replace". Commons:CropTool should really be enabled by default.

Wikimedia Commons is so open that other users have scripted these additions to the interface. I recently made a small tweak myself to the "people" that makes it add the DEFAULTSORT template with the name of the category put in back to front. This isn't always appropriate: "John Magnus Ragnhildson Dahl" has two surnames and Azian people usually already put the surname up front, but it's effective 90%+ of the time. If you wish to enable this yourself you can copy this code to your personal Javascript space. Vera ^(talk) 00:26, 8 December 2018 (UTC)

Category removal

Would you please explain to me why the Category:Temple Emanu-El, New York (1868) should not apply to File:The Jewish Synagogue, Fifth Avenue and 43rd St (NYPL b11708056-G91F200 043B).tiff? You've now twice removed it. The front of that object, File:The Jewish Synagogue, Fifth Avenue and 43rd St (NYPL b11708056-G91F200 043F).tiff, and two other images with the same view are in that category, and the inscription is quite clear. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 16:33, 31 January 2020 (UTC)

It's part of a set, and the temple is the subject and mentioned in the the inscription, and being in that category would help this file's discoverability. But I won't fight over it. I've added a note to the front image. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 11:36, 2 February 2020 (UTC)

Bromelia pinguin

Hi Velma, sorry for undoing your changes in File:Bromelia pinguin CF9A6023 1 Piña de ratón.jpg. The fruits of this plant are widely used in Cuba to get rid of intestinal parasites, especially for children because the taste is quite nice. Category:Unidentified subjects in Japan

Hi! In case you wonder... I move many files from ja.wiki to Commons and put them in this category. Usually a user from ja.wiki categorize those files very fast. That is why I leave the Japanese categories even if they are "red". --MGA73 (talk) 14:38, 16 March 2021 (UTC)

Category changed

Hello Velma,

I changed the category of File:FB IMG 1557887102159 12.jpg from "Mosques in Pakistan" to "Mosques in Algeria" since it was uploaded as part of "Wiki Loves Earth 2019 in Algeria" and it definitely was not a mosque in Pakistan. Just to let you know! Best, Krok6kola (talk) 13:46, 1 July 2021 (UTC)

No reason to remove the French attributed category "Lune" to this video.

There is no explicit language for an uploaded video on Wikicommons especially for a natural phenomenon.

Hornsby buildings

Hi Velma. I saw that you restored the category of Buildings in Hornsby, after I deleted it. I deleted it because, as I said, there are dozens of pix of buildings that would have to be recategorised. Sorry, but there's not much point in creating this category unless you are prepared to recategorise all the image files. Would you like to do this? If not, please stop creating this category. Generally if I know which categories are good for a file, then I change them and don't starrt writing to the discussion page and if I don't know, then I ask category review if someone else can find better categories.
