Notification about possible deletion

[edit]
Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Hey there. I'm new to contributing to Wikimedia. What rule has this image violated? How do I avoid deletion? TylerMascola (talk) 15:19, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Your upload is a scan of a cartridge which clearly depicts Ho-oh, which is protected by The Pokemon Company's copyright. Please familiarize yourself with the copyright rules of this site. You can upload photos of game cartridges, as long as they do not depict any copyrighted art or characters. You can blur or exclude the labels when needed. We already have several images of cartridges you can use as reference, for example: File:Game Boy Game Paks.jpg detriaskies 17:13, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hm, that makes sense. Is there no way to post this image as is, then?
On the Pokémon Gold and Silver Wikipedia page, the official box art is displayed without an issue: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pok%C3%A9mon_Gold_and_Silver#/media/File:Pok%C3%A9mon_box_art_-_Gold_Version.png
Is there something I can change about my upload without obscuring the image that would prevent deletion? TylerMascola (talk) 17:22, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The box art on Wikipedia are non-free uploads restricted to English Wikipedia, they have no presence on Commons. You can upload a revision of the file with the label blurred, and then replace the copyvio tag with add a revision deletion tag. Normally, I would argue that this image should just be deleted, given that we have plenty of images of Game Pak images, however given that Gold has a special cartridge color, illustrating that has value. detriaskies 17:32, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Gotcha. You can proceed with deletion. If the label needs to be blurred, I think the image will lose any value. TylerMascola (talk) 17:40, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I just explained why it would still have value but alright. detriaskies 17:50, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, I read your reply. I disagree. Needing to censor the art contradicts my whole purpose of sharing this photo with others. TylerMascola (talk) 18:02, 29 May 2024 (UTC)[reply]
