Malaysia and Morocco have just inked visa-free agreement

Hi, kindly update the map as Malaysian citizens are now allowed to visit Morocco visa-free for up to 90 days, including for diplomatic passport holders.

Visa Requirements for South African Citizens

Hello there, the UAE offers e-visa to South African citizens, I travel between the two countries regularly on an S.A. passport and have only ever applied online, through the Abu Dhabi Immigration Department. Also, could you change the Qatar colour to visa on arrival.

Thanks for your help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TristanPhoenix (talk • contribs) 08:01, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi! Thanks for your message. The UAE electronic visa is not a typical e-visa, where you just fill out a form and pay a tax online. There is a requirement for a passenger to be arriving on a designated airline or to have a local sponsor. As for Qatar, I believe Qatar now offers both visa on arrival and evisa, hence it was painted in teal.--Twofortnights (talk) 15:33, 14 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Central America-4 Border Control Agreement for Hong Kong

As I noticed that under Central America-4 Border Control Agreement, a visa issued by one of the four countries is honored by all four of the countries. As Nicaragua grants Hong Kong passport holders visa-free status for entry, shall it be deemed that the other three countries of Central America-4 Border Control Agreement, namely El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, provides Hong Kong passport holders with visa-free? — Preceding unsigned comment was added by 210.6.245.98 (talk) 08:40, 21 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Visa requirements for Iranian citizens.png

Hi dear Twofortnights,

The user Norvikk is staggeringly unresponsive! It deletes my post at its talk page. Thank you! At least you are here.

This photo: [3]

I have added East Russia + Iraqi Kurdistan for possibilities to be visited without visa/e-visa but he says: visa maps do not contain a similar category (some regions).

It is INCORRECT! See the link I provide here which indicates visa maps DO contain a similar category (some regions): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visa_policy_of_Russia#E-visa_to_visit_certain_regions_of_the_Far_East

The Russian visa policy map already has this option so that user is talking non-sensuous!

P.S. Libya is Admission Refused for Iranians so I made the map black but he again reverted my edit.

P.S.S. Please do not revert Singapore case again! Iranians are eligible to obtain an e-Visa for Singapore. I have myself obtained one months ago through the system.

Milad Mosapoor (talk) 20:55, 12 October 2017 (GMT)
Hi Milad Mosapoor. Thank you for reaching out. Although this discussion should be continued on the image talk page so that other editors can take part, I can reiterate here that my point is that before making new uploads which are obviously contentious, the issue should be resolved on the talk page instead of rounds of endless reverts. So please revert your edits to the last stable version and then proceed to try and reach consensus for the new changes on the talk page. Thanks.--Twofortnights (talk) 22:35, 11 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Milad Mosapoor The main maps of the visa of articles (more than 200) do not contain any of the following categories: some regions, tourist groups and others. Visa map in the article on visa policy of Russia is secondary. It is made for a separate section of the article. The main Russian map does not contain this category. Your edits violate the compromise that was reached in previous edit wars. Previously, some users added different categories: tourist groups, the possibility of submitting visa application online. Now it is Visa free access, Visa on arrival, eVisa, Visa available both on arrival or online. All articles are decorated by the same rules, in the same style. Please be objective. Thanks. --Norvikk (talk) 23:20, 11 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The Wikipedia page Visa requirements for Iranian citizens and its contained map [4] are locked. Please do not edit it again spreading violation of incorrect information.

P.S. I have written a reply to the Image Talk Page https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File_talk:Visa_requirements_for_Iranian_citizens.png Thanks Milad Mosapoor (talk) 14:53, 12 October 2017 (GMT)

Re: Your recent edits

I am making my edits constructive and ready to accept suggestions about them. However, simply saying "contain mistake" is not good for me to find where the mistakes are, it would be better to provide detailed information such as "XXX country is in wrong color", or you are welcome to directly correct them, but reverting is not a good ieda anyway. --Whisper of the heart (talk) 06:42, 19 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Visa map

Hello, I would not like to enter a war of editions with you about this map. But I think you should rethink which of the two versions is better. I understand that most of the maps in this regard have the old resolution, but the map that I was trying to upload clearly has better definition and shows the borders with higher resolution, as well as the maritime borders. We could go up new versions with the map of greater definition, this is how things are improving in wikipedia, step by step. I have not uploaded my version again, but I think you should let me do it. I leave you here a blank map of the world with high resolution, in case you want to use it for any other project. A greeting.-- Fobos | ¿algo que decirme? 16:03, 17 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Fobos. Thank you for reaching out. We've already had similar discussions before and the conclusion was always to keep the current map. The reason is that the map of visa policy needs to be readable on thumbnail level. It needs to present countries in a simplified form. There is literally no need for high resolution of Antarctica on the maps that show visa requirements at all. Showing all those tiny little islands of Indonesia is great for a map that is used in geographic articles, here it only makes an incredible clutter. And finally all the small island nations are here shown as a pixel, no one can even see them let alone guess what they represent. Uniformity of articles is an important issue and not something that should be taken step by step, and there is no one willing to sign up to recreate several hundred maps even step by step let alone in a short time frame. This is just the bottom line, but this was discussed in such great detail before and the strong consensus was built to use the current map.--Twofortnights (talk) 16:59, 17 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Twofortnights,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the second round of the 2017 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the twelfth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2017) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year were entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

There are two total rounds of voting. In the first round, you voted for as many images as you liked. In Round 1, there were 1475 candidate images. There are 58 finalists in Round 2, comprised of the top 30 overall as well as the top 2 from each sub-category.

In the final round, you may vote for a maximum of three images. The image with the most votes will become the Picture of the Year 2017.

Round 2 will end on 22 July 2018, 23:59 UTC.

E-visas for Indonesian citizens visiting Angola

Hi! Would you please change the colour of Angola in 'Visa requirements for Indonesian citizens map' into light blue instead of grey? Angolan government has granted many countries including Indonesia to its e-visa policy.

Thank you! Bayu Ampuh Wicaksono (talk) 07:41, 3 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. It's the general consensus that the Angolan visa policy does not constitute an eVisa policy. It is seen only as an online application for a visa that is actually issued at the airport. So the decision was made to keep showing Angola as a visa required destination.--Twofortnights (talk) 21:03, 3 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Visa system

I tried to make a visa system that facilitates bulk editing. I found the best option. Implementation of this system would require cardinal editing of all VR articles. The templates would be a reflection the lines in the tables in these articles . 200 templates for each of the visa policy article. Each vr table takes its own line from the main template. If the country changes visa policy, it is enough to edit one template, all vr articles would be updated automatically. Huge saving of time and effort for professional editors. I didn't have time to present a prototype.

Hi. So sorry to hear about this nonsense. Hopefully you can still find a way to return to editing as your input is very useful and the block is in my opinion a bureaucratic measure by a short sighted admin. That being said, your account on Commons is not connected to your English Wikipedia account as far as I know, so you should be able to continue to edit maps on here until the situation on Wikipedia is resolved. Finally, I am not sure how to finalize the templates you are working on and it would be extremely beneficial to have it. I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! --Twofortnights (talk) 23:36, 20 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Twofortnights; according to Wikivoyage's article on the Marshall Islands, "United States and all its territories, Federated States of Micronesia, Republic of Palau, Schengen area, Pacific Islands Forum Countries including Australia and New Zealand passport holders are exempted from the requirements of entry visa" (Schengen highlighted by me). Switzerland, although not a member of the EU, is part of the Schengen area (joined in 2008). So, shouldn't Switzerland in this map be in blue ("Visa free"), rather than in gold ("Visa on arrival")? Or is the Wikivoyage guide wrong? Oh, and Liechtenstein is also part of the Schengen area since 2011, it's colored grey in your map. Gestumblindi (talk) 01:13, 8 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Gestumblindi. I have checked the Wikivoyage article but it does not seem to provide any references. If you look at the file history you will see that it has changed quite a bit in terms of visa on arrival as well. When it comes to the Schengen Area, it turns out that while it is automatically applied in the other direction, there needs to be a separate agreement with Switzerland, Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein for the visa-free agreements of the EU to apply to their citizens as well. The necessity of a separate agreement is mentioned in the visa-free agreement the EU signs with other countries in one of the articles. Where exactly did those countries sign such a separate visa-free agreement is difficult to find out. Perhaps it would be much easier to get that information from the Swiss foreign ministry than the Pacific nations. In some cases it was signed on the same day and in some cases it hasn't been signed yet. Apart from the Marshall Islands the questionable countries are East Timor, Tonga, Palau, Kiribati, Tuvalu and Solomon Islands, and also for the same reason the length of stay is in question for Dominica, Samoa, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Micronesia. For the Marshall Islands the main source that was used is the following list of the Immigration Division of the Marshallese Ministry of Justice, Immigration and Labor - [9] - where Switzerland is listed under visa on arrival countries while Liechtenstein is not listed. Hope this was helpful and in case you do contact the Swiss foreign ministry to find out which treaties exist and apply please let me know.--Twofortnights (talk) 22:02, 8 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for your reply. I'm not deeply interested in this matter - as I intend to write a German Wikipedia article about a library and museum on the Marshall Islands, I came across your map, and (as I'm from Switzerland) wondered whether it's really accurate, but I don't think I will pursue the matter further. For what it's worth, there is a page on the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs' website "Info on requirements for entry/visas for the Marshall Islands", but it has only the contact info for the consulate of the Marshall Islands without any further information. Your source looks good enough to me :-) Gestumblindi (talk) 19:13, 9 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

It may seem so but the European Commission accepted the justification of those countries and does not consider their policy to be a visa requirement for EU citizens. Perhaps in the future, the British Govt will have a different approach, but right now it is not considered to be a violation. This doesn't concern Turkey and Armenia as Turkey is correctly shaded as an eVisa country on the map while Armenia has a visa-free policy for British citizens.--Twofortnights (talk) 08:47, 3 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Visa policy of Armenia for indian citizens

Hello, Please change the data about indian citizens requirements for Armenia in " Visa requirements for Indian citizens" and "Visa policy of Armenia".

According to Armenian ministry of foreign affairs, starting 30 of November, Indians citizens can obtain visa upon arrival only if they have valid residence permit in some of gulf countries. So they need E-visa.

You can check at www.mfa.am/en/visa > India > Ordinary passport

Here is the decision:

So there seems to be a new policy that will be coming into effect for Indian citizens, here is text from mfa.am

Citizens of India with ORDINARY passports are REQUIRED to hold a visa when traveling to the Republic of Armenia.

Starting November 30, 2019 citizens of India with ORDINARY passports and holders of Indian travel documents can obtain entry visa at the Embassies (Consulates) of the Republic of Armenia or apply for E-VISA.

Furthermore, citizens of India are eligible to obtain single entry visa upon arrival in Armenia (on the border), if:

1. They hold a valid residence permit of one of the following countries

United Arab Emirates

Kingdom of Bahrain

State of Qatar

State of Kuwait

Sultanate of Oman

2. They hold a valid residence permit or a multiple visa of one of the following countries

Map of Visa requirement for Chinese citizens

Hi, Twofortnights: would it be possible to update the map of visa requirements for Chinese citizens so that it does not refer to passport for public affairs? The visa requirement for holders of public affairs passports is a whole different story and isn't relevant to the great majority of readers of that site who are tourists holding ordinary passports. If one looks at the same map for citizens of other countries, it refers only to ordinary passports. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Vigox (talk • contribs) 20:25, 1 June 2018 (UTC)[reply]

visa req for Croatian citizens

Hi, can you update the map for Croatian citizens to reflect free movement in Austria and French Guiana? Also, could you remove the borders between the EU countries so that the map resembles the maps of other EU/EEA countries? Perhaps leave the outline of Switzerland as there are still transitional restrictions. Bangladesh allows Croatian citizens to enter with a visa on arrival.
