Hi Patrick!

That image that you deleted was authorized by the image creator for Subject Matters X to promote her (Arcand) podcast. Subject Matter X also added the *Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported (CC BY-SA 3.0)* to their page where the the podcast and image are located.

This is the link where the podcast and image are located:

https://soundcloud.com/subjectmatterx/005-exploring-the-universe-with-nasas-x-ray-telescope

On this website under the podcast if you click on release by and show more you'll see the

005: Exploring the Universe with NASA's X-ray Telescope and Kim Arcand by Subject Matter X is licensed under a Creative Commons License and that links to the page *Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported (CC BY-SA 3.0)*

This is the link to the podcast I uploaded:

The author of the image authorized them to use this License to promote her podcast and image that goes along with it.

I don't think it should have been deleted simply because the author's image is on Amazon where she sells her books.

Can you please replace the image or allow me to upload it again.

Thank you for your time, support and consideration of this matter.

Hi Tracy. you may request an undeletion but they will tell you that the permission of the photographer of the original picture (the Amazon one) is needed. Yours, --Patrick Rogel (talk) 11:19, 22 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Hi Tracy, thanks for your enquiry. I must say that I find the OTRS system is too slow and cumbersome for many editors and most potential benefactors to cope with. I've loaded 1000s of pix but I give up when I realise that I might have to ask someone's permission by email - as commons frequently doesnt take "yes" for an answer - but asks for mind numbing detail until everyone involved wonders why they are. Obvs these volunteers who look after the process are doing a great job but the burden they have accepted is to much to impose on our donaters who cannot understand the logjam of rules we have made. The only way that I have found that works with a nominally unfree image is 1) to ask the photographer to load the image to commons or 2) to get the website modified to say cc by sa (tricky but the rewards can be large).

IMO you have been dealt with unfairly and can I apologise of behalf of the project if the individual editors fail to realise their mistakes. I did exchange emails with Kimberley Arcand but she couldnt understand why she couldnt just say "Its OK". You will see that I had to find away around this. We seem to have millions of people who would gift us images but we are running to a beat that is created by the big copyright owners and Wiki so far has failed to find the agility to create a hassle free process.

I have made two intercessions - tell me if I can help more Victuallers (talk) 16:25, 23 December 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Victuallers,

Thank you for your unwavering kindness, patience and understanding. I was so confounded when my own work (image of Arcand) at TEDx was tagged for deletion simply because an editor found the same image on Arcand's Facebook page. The editor informed me that I had to add a Commons License on Arcand's Facebook page which I did but only in a comment underneath the posted image. Then the editor accused me of COI because he said I was able to manage Arcand's Facebook account and that was not the case. Her FB page is public and I added the license in the comment area where anyone can comment on her post. I do not have credentials to login into Arcand's FB page and add the license alongside the posted image. I was so frustrated and scoured the Wikimedia Commons rules for two days on posting my own work and could not find one rule that I broke.

Prior to that it was the Subject Matter X podcast and accompanying image. The author of the podcast had issues uploading the podcast mp3 file and asked me to upload the file for him which I did. I first I had to change the container from mp3 to ogg, since Commons' rules are finicky about mp3 and copyright. I also asked the author to place the appropriate Commons license on their website where the podcast and Arcand's image combined with the Subject Matter X image which he did. I posted both the podcast and image from Subject Matter X on Arcand's Wikipedia page. The next morning the podcast image of Arcand was deleted and didn't know why. I found out one of the editors found Arcand's image that was used on the podcast image on her Amazon page and was told I need permission from the author Brittanny Taylor.

Then this morning I see the ogg podcast I uploaded was marked for deletion as well.

I know Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons has lots of rules and those rules link to many more rules...it's never ending and so confusing. It would be nice to have some basic videos on Wikimedia Commons and Wikipedia that show simply how to how to create a basic page, contact an editor, send an email reply, set up a gallery, or create a category etc. Here we have User pages, talk pages, discussion pages, templates, categories and the list goes on with a simple pictorial on uploading one's own image, which evidently did not work out well for me. Sorry to ramble on my friend!

Thank you for all that you do and wish you and your family *Safe and Happy* holiday season and a Wonderful New Year!

Best!
