Treppen im Freien[edit]

Hallo Tozina, Du hast bei einigen Treppenwegen die Kategorie "Outside stairs" entfernt und die Kategorie "Stairways" mit einer Beschreibung versehen, dass es sich um Treppenwege handele. Das ist meiner Ansicht nach nicht ganz richtig, denn soweit ich weiß bezeichnet "stairway" keineswegs einen "Treppenweg", sondern die Gesamttreppe mit einen oder mehreren Treppenläufen einschließlich der Podeste, machmal (wohl ällter) auch das Treppenhaus. Das legt zumindest ein Nachsehen in mehreren Wörterbüchern nahe sowie die Nachfrage an der village pump hier auf Commons. "Stairways" sind also nicht zwangsläufig im Freien, was z.B. auch aus den Bildern in den englischsprachigen Landeskategorien ersichtlich ist, obwohl auch dort die Kategorisierung commons-typisch durcheinander geht. Bist Du einverstanden, wenn ich das für in Niedersachsen wieder ändere? Falls "stairways"-Kategorien weiter nur Treppenwege enthalten sollen (was ich sprachlich schlicht für falsch halte), dann müssten aber die "stairays"-Kategorien überall mit der "Outdoor stairs"-Kategorie versehen werden, damit es konsistent wird. --Dehio (talk) 10:33, 14 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hallo Dehio, ich hatte die "outside stairs" bei den unterschiedlichen Lokalitäten sehr unterschiedlich und letztendlich als uneindeutigen Mischmasch wahrgenommen und bin deshab extra vor der Anlage neuer gleichartiger Cat in der Kategorisierung hochgegangen, worauf ich auf die Beschreibungen stieß, und las dazu DeepL/Lingueé und Wörterbücher. "Stairway" wird im Alltag wohl oft auch einfach als "Treppe/Treppen" benutzt, und ja älter auch Treppenhaus, worauf ich auch stieß. Schließlich habe ich beim Sortieren dann die Beschreibung von "ganz oben" mit drinnen/draußen als Grundlage genommen: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Stairways. War davon ausgegangen, dass das wohl Muttersprachler gemacht haben. So gesehen sind outside stairs und stairways nebengeordnet, die "größere Höhe" der deutschen Beschreibung findet sich im englischen Text nicht, ließ ich daher außer acht. Hatten sich die Diskutanten auf village pump anders geeinigt? Dann sollte auch in der obersten Cat die Beschreibung geändert werden, das kann man dann runterziehen. Da du die Disk kennst, machst du das am besten? Mit Hinweis auf jene Disk? Nur bei Niedersachsen (zurück)ändern finde ich kikolorus. Dann klickt Mensch auf Schleswig und sieht anderes ... Ich habe gerade etwas mehr Freizeit und kann nachziehen. Mir ist jetzt nur noch nicht klar, wie die Teilung definiert wird, wenn mein Verständnis falsch oder unpassend war. Also was wohin? Letztendlich finde ich beim Neuanlegen auf kleineren lokalen Ebenen oder auch aus überfüllten Cat runtersortieren wichtig, dass es ziemlich eindeutig ist, was reinkommt, man nicht parallel auf andere Füllungen trifft. (Und na ja, so ganz gravierende Fehler wie bei Dachgaube = muss ein Fenster haben/dormer = dormer window, weil alltagssprachlich in USA üblich, auch wenn das Gegenteil hundertfach dokumentiert, sollte es auch nicht enthalten.) Danke für die Erklärung. Es ist also mal wieder kompliziert, wie fast immer mit den Commons-Kategorien. Die Diskussion auf village pump enthielt nur zwei Antworten, davon bei Überprüfung keine von einem Englisch-Muttersprachler (allerdings kann zumindest der eine User sehr gut Englisch) Insofern alles unbefriedigend. Hinzu kommt, dass ich zur Zeit nicht die nötige Zeit und Energie aufwenden kann, das komplett zu ändern, und auch selbst nicht entsprechend sicher bin. Von mir aus muss ich es also erstmal belassen, wie es ist. Vielleicht kümmert sich ja mal irgendwer drum, der da mehr Zeit hat und mutiger oder kenhntnisreicher ist als ich. --Dehio (talk) 06:12, 17 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Jahreskategorien für Karten[edit]

Hallo, ich habe gerade einige kürzlich von dir erstellte Jahreskategorien in die Schnelllöschung gepackt und den Inhalt in die übergeordnete Jahrzehnt-Kategorie geschoben: Es ergibt schlicht keinen Sinn, nur ein bis zwei Karten in einer Kategorie zu haben. (Tipp: die exakte Datierung innerhalb einer Kategorie ist mit einem Kategorie-Key möglich: "Category:1860s maps of Saxony|1866" ) --Enyavar (talk) 14:43, 12 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hallo @Enyavar: dank dir fürs Bescheidgeben. Prinzipiell stimm ich dir zu, wenn kein nennenswerter Zuwachs zu erwarten ist. Aber in dem Fall, schau mal bitte hier: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Category:Files_from_Gallica_needing_categories_(maps) 12.469 Unterkategorien mit Karten drin und noch dazu 51.754 Einzelkarten, Stand jetzt. Da kommen noch Hunderte in die SachsenKats und ganz allgemein sind die Karten in großer Anzahl aus dem 19. Jahrhundert. Das heißt für die zeitliche Dimension gleich exakt oder später Mehrarbeit, indem man noch einmal alle Karten aufruft, wenn die Decade die höhere Zahl erreicht hat. Das wird bei 1860s maps wie bei den anderen Jahrzehnten passieren. Datierungssortierung innerhalb einer KartenKat find ich übrigens als Spielerei, die man machen kann, die aber beim Auffinden nicht hilft, oder nur dann, wenn man das als Insider kennt und vermutet. Lässt man große Kats, muss man sich ewig durchkraulen. Die so oft propagierte einfache Suche beschert den Leuten bei Karten viel zu viele Ergebnisse. Da hangelt man sich über die Katbäume (wenn nicht abgebrochen) besser. Und leider nicht förderlich für die Suche sind bei den botgenerierten Gallica-Abladungen die zahlreichen Fehler, die bereits in Frankreich zu den deutschsprachigen Karten produziert wurden und falsch in der Beschreibung stehen oder als Kauderwelsch + den fehlenden Angaben in den Beschreibungen. Das geht nur nach und nach händisch nutzbar zu machen. - Ich konnte nach den intensiven Dezemberwochen keine Karten mehr sehen, aber ich mach weiter. Vielleicht gesellen sich ja noch Leute dazu. An sich sind die Karten ein Schätzchen. - Würd gut finden, wenn du unter dem Gesichtspunkt des sehr wahrscheinlichen Zuwachses die Löschung zurücknehmen lässt. Wenn nicht, na dann nicht. Moin, ich sortiere auch erst seit anderthalb Jahren Karten hier (zuerst tausende "unidentified maps", mittlerweile Category:Old maps sowie auch die gelegentlichen Gallica-files etc.) Da sind durchaus wunderschöne Beispiele mit dabei, und ich bin nach wie vor begeistert. Hm, die Mehrzahl der Gallica-Files betrifft meines Wissens Frankreich, aber du könntest schon Recht haben, und es erwarten uns noch hunderte von Sachsen-Karten. Gallica wird nicht das einzige Archiv bleiben, was die Fluter öffnet. Wenn das sächsische Landesarchiv dazustößt, dann wird es echt spannend! Aber erst einmal haben wir deiner Schätzung nach hunderte von Karten. Verteilt auf hunderte von Jahren erwarte ich einen Schnitt von ca. 1-3 Dateien pro Jahr. In einigen Jahren wird es sich soweit ballen dass auch ich einer Untergliederung zustimmen würde (Category:Sächsiche Landesaufnahme 18XX o.ä.), andere Karten werden noch viele Jahre allein in einer Kategorie liegen. Viele weitere Karten werden bereits im Jahrzehnt oder Jahrhundert steckenbleiben, da nicht genauer datiert. Es kommen Fehlzuordnungen mit dazu, wo eine Kartenserie "1765-1775" in das Jahr "1765" wandert; oder wo "Mitte 16. Jahrhundert" genau in das Jahr "1550" gebracht wird; oder jemand bringt Geschichtskarten und historische Karten durcheinander - alles schon gesehen, und daher meine klare Präferenz für Jahrhundert- und Jahrzehnt-Kategorien.
Nenne mir mal schnell eine schöne alte Karte von Montreal aus dem 19. Jahrhundert. Vergleiche Category:19th-century maps of London. Die eine Stadt ist von Anfang an nach Jahren sortiert, die andere Stadt sammelte erst eine unübersichtliche Zahl von Karten, welche im Nachhinein in Jahrhunderte und Jahrzehnte untergliedert wurden. Beides sind Strukturen die nicht perfekt umgesetzt wurden, aber welche davon taugt als Vorbild für Category:Old maps of Kiel, wenn man bedankt dass sich auch die Zahl der Alten Karten von Kiel in den kommenden Jahren vervielfachen wird?
Kategorien sollten m.M.n. in folgender Reihenfolge angelegt werden: Old, 18th-century, 1770s, 1777. Jeweils erst dann untergliedern wenn sich etwa ein Dutzend Karten in die Unterkategorie packen lässt. Alte Karten von subnationalen Regionen/Kleinstaaten sind generell nicht besonders zahlreich, sodass ich nicht erwarte, für jedes einzelne Jahr eine Vielzahl von Karten von Pommern oder von der Krim zu finden - für jedes Jahrzehnt dagegen schon. Bei alten Karten kommt hinzu, dass oft auch noch mehrere Jahre zwischen der Landesaufnahme und der Publikation liegen, oder dass dieselbe Karte 200 Jahre lang fast unverändert im Druck bleibt. Erschwerend kommen Grenzänderungen hinzu: prinzipiell habe ich gar kein Verständnis für "17th-century maps of North Rhine-Westphalia" (Aber: "of Prussia" muss ich erst selbst anlegen, was zum?). Und wo mir dieses Jahr echt die Spucke wegblieb, war die eigene Kategorie für 1598 maps of Saudi Arabia. Das war grober Unfug, den ich hoffentlich endgültig bereinigt habe, und es nimmt einfach kein Ende: Category:1516 maps of Israel. Wer braucht eine jahresgenau datierte Zeichnung von einem Zelt? Pardon für das Abschweifen.
Mein Punkt ist: Wir sortieren gleiches zu gleichem, anstatt im Detail unterschiedliches von im Detail unterschiedlichen zu trennen. Category:17th-century maps of Silesia sind total in Ordnung, eine Untergliederung in jedes einzelne Jahr wäre dort ein unnötiger Mehraufwand durch den die Übersicht verloren geht.

Hello @D. Benjamin Miller: thank you for asking. (Others are quick to revert.) Various anniversary texts from 1921 emphasize that Boehm always took the photographs herself. This is also consistent with the poetic description of her work and the studio in a writer's essay from 1910 and an apprentice's memories of her training period at the end of the 1920s. — I'll take your question as an opportunity to present this briefly on Commons. — Until 31.12.23, nothing from the period 1896 to July 1933 was actually allowed to be uploaded here. Contrary to what many files claim, the photographer had not yet been dead for 70 years. The date of death was simply unknown, and it was only last fall that an editor found the death notice in a newspaper from 1953, and other sources were able to correctly attribute it to this Marie Boehm. — For the period from July 1933 onwards, the photographers are still completely unclear. From what I have found so far (there is no literature), it is rather unlikely that the owner was the photographer; perhaps he took photographs in the early days, perhaps at times when he suffered too much from the Nazi restrictions, perhaps never. At times he employed up to 11 people. Only time will tell. That's why I won't go into all the photos of Becker and Maass after 1933. —Articles on the studio, Marie Boehm and Heinrich Maas are currently being created in the German Wikipedia.
