--Archaeodontosaurus (talk) 07:16, 3 April 2011 (UTC)

File:PolyplectronNapoleonisFuertes.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

I've found the publication info finally, and I'm withdrawing the DR. I'd advise you don't upload American works without being pretty sure of the date—I think some illustrations from another volume of this book are copyright. —innotata 15:15, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
Good, and yes, I'll be more careful, thanks. Totodu74 (talk) 18:29, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

Recherches sur la faune de Madagascar

I don't think you should have uploaded these. As I said on my talk page, it looks like we know the engravers were a firm, we know who the authors are, but not their dates of death, which may be relevant. But the issue is that we don't know who the artist(s) were, and some illustrations have what appear to be a messy signature. You don't seem to have advanced, since you only give the names of the book authors and engravers. Perhaps the artists were the authors, and perhaps you've found that out, but this needs to be given; I can't find out much from the book since it's in French. —innotata 19:12, 8 April 2011 (UTC)

I found nothing really useful except maybe here a signature looking at JKG lith, maybe for John Gerrard Keulemans lithography... But seriously, 1868... I think it is reasonable to believe that the plates are in the public domain, even if we don't know the author. That said it seems unlikely to have problems since the author is not particularly mentioned... It's not to be mean but it's just... tiring sometimes to contribute on Commons. Should I let drawings on fr: wikipédia and let others wikis import it if they're not too procedurial ? =/ Regards, Totodu74 (talk) 19:58, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
No, there's still a small chance these are in copyright, if the artist worked as long as, say, another animal illustrator, Pierre Jacques Smit; this sort of information should always be given. —innotata 23:52, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
File:MegapodiusPritchardiiBuller.jpg also is problematic: Buller was not an artist, and his books were illustrated by J. G. Keulemans, but also P. J. Smit. —innotata 23:55, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
Damned, he was 26 to the publication and died 97 years old... good for him. What do you think of the JGK-looking signature ? Totodu74 (talk) 08:41, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
Otherwise I'm asking that if an illustrator create a drawing for an author the copyright is still for the illustrator... Do you have something on it ? edit : I give an example : when you have a drawing of Mickey Mouse, the author isn't Walt Disney himself, but the copyright belongs to the group. Why it could be different ? Totodu74 (talk) 09:54, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
I think that in France and most European countries, copyright is counted from the deaths of all the authors: the author of the book/article (I'm not sure about this part), the lithographers (but here we know these were a firm), and the illustrator. (The U. S. is mostly based on publication, so Mickey Mouse is a different matter.) I'm guessing that the illustrator died over 70 years ago, and I'll keep on looking. Have you looked at every image for a signature, and in other places where the artist's name might be given (tables of contents, prefaces, etc.)? I think I'll have to look at the Internet Archive on a different computer, later, to see the signatures properly. —innotata 15:11, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
The list of plates is here, but doesn't give any info on illustrator. In the text, nothing more. I've put notes on File:Accipiter francesiae 1868 (2).jpg and File:Ninox superciliaris 1868.jpg were the J is more clear than on the baza picture. I keep searching. Totodu74 (talk) 16:12, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
Great! I think we can be fairly sure about at least most of these being by Keulemans now, since all the signatures I can find looks similar to these, or some we know to be Keulemans's. It looks like Keulemans signed in a lot of different ways: compare File:AccipiterOvampensisKeulemans.jpg and File:AnasGibberifronsKeulemans.jpg! File:Turdus torquatus 1900.jpg also must be by Keulemans. —innotata 18:17, 9 April 2011 (UTC)
Indeed! I add the name and the category. Thanks for your help, Totodu74 (talk) 12:01, 10 April 2011 (UTC)
Keulemans didn't make it for v. P.W.M. Trap, though: they just engraved it. —innotata 15:28, 10 April 2011 (UTC)
✓ Done Well, I've corrected in that way. Totodu74 (talk) 18:26, 10 April 2011 (UTC)

Your Comment on FPC Futanari

I saw your comment ("Whoa") on FPC. I know that this is pornography and i also know that not anyone is happy with such an illustration. But at least im interested to hear your thoughts about it. You commented it with "per Steven Walling". He only stated "A supremely high quality illustration that we think represents the very best of Commons educational content? Not a chance." for the reason. Could you please explain me why you exactly opposed the image? Im not worried about the fact that you opposed. Im more interested in the true reasons. --Niabot (talk) 21:13, 14 April 2011 (UTC)

Yes, that's the kind of eye-catching image. I try to detail in other words, even if I've some difficulties with english language : if I agree this is a good quality drawing, I'm not sure that's a good idea to try to put this kind of picture in display among highly interesting Commons content... I found that hentai is globaly unhealthy, and saying "that's the idea" is not really a valuable defense for me. Totodu74 (talk) 21:39, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
What gives you the idea that hentai is or might be unhealthy? Is there something bad about hentai in general? I'm a specialized writer for anime related topics, which of course includes hentai or ecchi related topics, but i never heard of something like that. Now im somehow interested. --Niabot (talk) 21:46, 14 April 2011 (UTC)
