Thule Home

[edit]

File:Ancient Thule Home.jpg Could you add some more description. Where is this? is it a reconstruction? by whom? Thanks Dankarl (talk) 17:31, 18 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Timkal, thanks for the reply. Looks like you had a really great trip to Resolute Bay. I finally figured out roughly where this was by looking at your other photos, It would be helpful to give the location directly, since it helps categorization and is more reliable than an outsider's attempt to reconstruct your trip. My other two questions above still stand. Is this part of a museum? is at a replica, a reconstruction, or an original?
More generally, a sentence or two on each photo stating what is shown and where it is, try to anticipate the questions of a categorizer (or add categories yourself), and a general reader. Dankarl (talk) 03:17, 18 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
The level of description I am asking for does not need a special section or structure. I modified a sentence from your reply and inserted it in the description. Take a look on the page, then click the edit tab and look at what I did. Nothing complicated, you can add more there if you want. The best way to learn is to experiment and the best complement to experimentation is looking at pages with the edit tab to see how they are put together. If you don't like the result you get, change it back. Dankarl (talk) 04:04, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Each image needs enough information to be identifiable and understandable by itself. A user shouldn't have to look at your other images to figure out what is shown. The more specifically a picture is described, the greater its range of potential uses. Dankarl (talk) 04:10, 19 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
thank you for all your help Dan. I have been away for much of the summer and am just getting to the point of adding more information. I think I spread myself a little thin as I'm trying to add to all the locations that have little or nothing for reference. I'm going to slow down and try to do each location well even if it takes forever!! I'm going to backtrack to my previous contributions and see if I can better describe what I did and what I was talking about. Now that I'm back I see there have been some changes to formats etc. so I will need to research this all over again. What I would like to do is start a new category that covers the "True Love" research station that is now abandoned but was very active. It was located on Devon Island and all my research shows there is nothing to cover this particular site. I happened upon it by accident several years ago when we couldn't get into Grise Fiord and landed at this site. I did some extensive photographs while we were on the ground for about 2 hours. I tried to do this before but found it a whole lot intimidating.

Anyways again thanks for the help and I hope you don't mind if I ask for more! Take care. Tim

Please give images good descriptions

I noticed you've uploaded File:Community view.JPG and I thought I should draw your attention to a common error.
Please give some thought to writing a good description of uploaded images. This ensures that they can be used. It also helps those that review and improve categories do a better job, which also ensures that images will get used in novel and interesting ways. Thanks, and happy editing!

Some of Your Other Photos

[edit]

Hi Timkal.

I work with the Museum of Anthropology in Vancouver. We're creating a teaching kit on Nunavut, and your photos are gorgeous. I'd love to ask permission to use a couple, but am unable to reach out to your through Panoramio. Would you mind e-mailing me at moa.programs@gmail.com?

Thanks so much,

Clayton
