Hello, Theo10011!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Double votes in POTY[edit]

Just to let you know, you can vote only once in the final round of POTY2010; I saw you voted fur or five times... remove all your votes and leave just one, otherwise none of your votes will count. Have a nice day, --Broc (talk) 20:46, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

ya sorry about that, it's fixed now. Theo10011 (talk) 04:34, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

POTY 2010 voting[edit]

Hello, please correct your voting. You can vote "only for one" image! --Alchemist-hp (talk) 23:14, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

done. Theo10011 (talk) 04:34, 1 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Theo10011. Please note that the debates are not votes. --Leyo 15:45, 20 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for informing me. After being on WMF projects for years, and participating in several deletion requests on several projects, your clarification was much needed. I am not sure what exactly you have an issue with - my comment or the vote since you don't mention a diff or anything specific. It would be helpful if you clarified what you have an issue with. Thanks. Theo10011 (talk) 15:56, 20 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I am referring to the edit you made directly before replying here. --Leyo 16:34, 20 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I voted on one [1] and commented on the other [2]. I'm not sure what you meant by debates are not votes. It was a deletion request and people do indeed vote, occasionally they leave comments and discuss. I don't think I did anything wrong on either one. Regards. Theo10011 (talk) 17:29, 20 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You might want read this comment by another admin. I am aware that it does not fully apply to you. --Leyo 17:48, 20 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Allow me to comment here, those comments can simply be ignored when an admin closes the DR. Not much difference if such a so-called not-helpful comment is kept or removed - the latter seems a bit rude imo. --Ben.MQ (talk) 08:04, 21 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
… but allows a user to learn about that rule. --Leyo 09:05, 21 September 2011 (UTC) PS. See also COM:VP#per nom?[reply]

Unless you point me to a local policy directing me to not do that, I will take it as your opinion on the matter. An opinion I, or another user can disagree with. You linked to a mention on Village pump not an expressively written policy, brought up by one user. I saw no link to an established policy where voting 'per nom' is not allowed on commons, I have voted on several request on close to a dozen wikis, this is the first time I am being corrected for voting 'per nom'. Also, I commented on the issue on COM:VP#per nom? Thanks. Theo10011 (talk) 09:54, 21 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
