Hello, The Emirr!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Again, thank you very much Emirr, i especially like the blue version that compliments the Somali flag, salute!--Scoobycentric (talk) 09:39, 19 January 2010 (UTC)

Hi. I wonder if you would concider to add to your license. GFDL has been migrated on Commons. For some reason it seems I never asked you earlier :-)

And happy new year :-) --MGA73 (talk) 11:19, 1 January 2010 (UTC)

This template is far too loud. You may consider LangSwitch to make it smaller. Also it is a custom license template without beeing custom or special. Please remove the licenses from the template and add the generic license GFDL directly to the uploads, otherwise the template must be used with "subst:". See Commons:User_templates#Templates. Furthermore your template strays the regular template namespace, but it belongs in your user namespace. --Martin H. (talk) 19:32, 13 January 2010 (UTC)
I will exclude the GFDL license from your template so that you can use it in future without subst: but that will make it a regular user "promotion"/source template. That will allow you to change the appearance at any time, with subst you can not do this any more and the use of a custom template will lose its benefit. --Martin H. (talk) 10:11, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
Done, the template is now a template for author information and not a license template, so you can use it also in future without subst. While moving the GFDL license to the images I found many images beeing badly categorized or not categorized at all. Looking at Category:İzmir I see a category related to a turkish city spammed with maps not related to the city but the province. My wish is, that you improve the quality of your work, especially categorization, before trying to self-promote your name (I saw you already prepared another big and loud image File:TheEmirr-Maps-Logo.png). Thanks and kind regards, --Martin H. (talk) 11:19, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
Now that is not a license anymore then maybe it should not be under "Permission" but under "Source" or "Author"?
As for categorization I agree it could be better but I see no need to mix that with the question of "self-promotion". --MGA73 (talk) 18:15, 14 January 2010 (UTC)
Not a problem but a suggestion, the template only says "this image is created by...", so it would be more appropriate to move it into the "author" field of Information instead of the "permission" field. I think you can improve the template by adding a text such as You are free to reuse this work for any purpose as long as you credit The Emirr and follow the terms of the license listed below. Adding this line will give the template more use and make it an appropriate template for the permission field. --Martin H. (talk) 18:10, 15 January 2010 (UTC)

Source of your albanian road map

Dear sir, We are working on mapping the roads of albania in openstreetmap. Please cite your sources for the map so that we can use it as well, you say it was created by you, did you travel to albania?

Where did you get the coordinates from? mike Mdupont (talk) 19:25, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

source of maps, is it usable?

Emirr, you have not answered my question. How can you claim to have made this map, you say it is an atlas in the message, but you dont put that source in your image, you claim it is yours. this is obviously a contradiction. Are you sure you are allowed to use this source? and if so, please name it. I am going to mark this map as of questionable copyright, it is obviously not your creative work, you took it from some unnamed source.

mike Mdupont (talk) 19:24, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

Cite your sources!

If you took data from somewhere you need to cite it! you claimed it is your work, but unless you went to albania how could it be? mike Mdupont (talk) 05:55, 1 April 2010 (UTC)

Sources, please

Well, your images are pretty, very pretty, congratulations for this, and they was welcome, of course, but remember, if you put a image like a distribution map, you always need put the source from the data of this map, in order to verify it. Best regards, --Furado (talk) 17:37, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for making a collage for the Dallas page but you are not giving attribution to the photographers whose images you have used in a derivative work..

The two that are mine have licenses that basically state "free to use and edit with attribution."
