COM:OVERCAT?

Hi Takeaway. I've seen frequently that you "removed category per COM:OVERCAT". The link of COM:OVERCAT just leads to a help page.

As I'd like to streamline my workflow as much as possible I would like to know, if you use a kind of program/script for removing such a cat? Or do you do it just manually?

Greetings --hdamm (talk) 07:45, 24 September 2014 (UTC)

Hi hdamm. Whenever you see "COM:OVERCAT" in one of my edit summaries, that means that I've removed one or more categories manually. It's a pity that a lot of people think that Wikimedia categorisation works the same way as for instance flickr, or actually even just don't care shoving off the categorisation workload on to people such as you and me. I always hope that these people read my edit summary and actually click on the link so they can learn something but I doubt it though.
Perhaps someone could expand the "Cat-a-lot" tool to also include entering a custom edit summary?
Regards, Takeaway (talk) 12:55, 24 September 2014 (UTC)
I fully agree.
Expand the "Cat-a-lot" tool: great idea.
BTW, I'm not so very sure, if that, what I'm doing for the last couple of days, is very wise. Because there's still a lot of OVERCAT e.g. in the Category:Ancient monuments in Bangkok...
The reason behind it is: I want to categorize pictures with a certain, known name and location. So we can easier find a cat for unidentified photos (like I did with File:Bangkok Temple.jpg).
What do you think?
Ah, I had a look and I think I understand what you mean. Some of the media are now both in "Category:Ancient monuments in Bangkok", as well as in the precise category. The precise category is sometimes also put into "Category:Ancient monuments in Bangkok".
I'm not really sure "Ancient monuments..." is actually a very good category as some of these monuments aren't very ancient at all. I understood that this category was created as a catch-all category for the Wikimedia monument-push last year, so that people who normally are never involved with Wikimedia would have an easy-to-enter category to which they could upload their images. Now that that monument-push period is over, I would actually suggest, after the media has been properly categorised, to change these "Ancient monuments..." categories into hidden categories, or even delete them, as they're very imprecise due to the term "Ancient". When is something actually "ancient"? Minimum 100 years old, 200, 1000, 2000? - Takeaway (talk) 13:25, 24 September 2014 (UTC)

Hi again hdamm. I placed a request at "Village Pump" to add a custom edit summary to the "Cat-a-lot" tool. Cheers, Takeaway (talk) 14:42, 24 September 2014 (UTC)

I think, the "Ancient monuments..." are filled again (as for the WLM 2014 campaign) at least by some Thai users. The Category:Ancient monuments in Bangkok grows every day - from around 600,700 some days ago to 1300 right now.
Thanks for the Village Pump request.

OMG! Give Thai people an excuse to share images with their smartphones and they really go for it! No wonder they're ranked number 1 in instagram! LOL! ;-) - Takeaway (talk) 15:08, 24 September 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for your photo!

Hi Takeaway, thank you for the nice photo that you made available! I used it on my website (in Dutch), here: Pad Thai. Laurier (talk) 10:16, 7 November 2014 (UTC)

Hi Laurier. You're welcome. I just had a look at your website and I saw that you even correctly mentioned Wikimedia.org there as per the licence of the image. Great! You're one of the few people who actually do things the correct way! :)
I'm not a fan of Pad Thai at all to be honest. I eat it at most once every few years so I never made it myself at home. What would probably be one of the best recipes available online in a non-Thai language is this one by SheSimmers.com. It's so detailed that she's even split it up into 5 parts. Have a look to compare it with your own recipe. Regards, - Takeaway (talk) 13:27, 7 November 2014 (UTC)
Hi! I didn't see your reply to my message before, but thank you for the compliment! (It would be great to have one Watchlist for all Wiki-projects...) I'll definitely compare the recipe to the one you mentioned! Laurier (talk) 12:52, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
(Stalking :-) Hi Laurier, I also some times see their replies late, although they ping us... --E4024 (talk) 12:21, 6 October 2015 (UTC)
@E4024: . Whenever I ask someone something on their talk page, I also add that talkpage to my watch list so I will know when there is a reply, even if they do not ping me. It is really that easy and it seems only normal to do so if one is actually interested to know what that person's answer is to the question they are asked. - Takeaway (talk) 12:28, 6 October 2015 (UTC)
Cannot we ever miss anything? Are we Superpersons? (I mean Supermen or Superwomen. :-) This morning I saw a "1" sign beside my user name and came here. But the red light was not as bright as it was a minute ago, it was kind of dim. Cheers. --E4024 (talk) 12:33, 6 October 2015 (UTC)
When you ask someone a question, it seems normal to check if you get an answer. Why else bother? - Takeaway (talk) 12:36, 6 October 2015 (UTC)
I forget. I am not (so) young. I know what it is to be young, but maybe you don't know what it is to be old... Bye. --E4024 (talk) 12:44, 6 October 2015 (UTC)
As for User:Laurier, why she didn't see my reply sooner, is probably because she hardly uses her Wikimedia Commons account as can be seen from her contribution list here. - Takeaway (talk) 13:20, 6 October 2015 (UTC)

Geodata and E-PL5

Do you remember how you added geodata here: File:Kaeng khilek.jpg (and in the EXIF)? Thanks in advance. --C messier (talk) 15:45, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
Hi! I think I added the geodata for that image using the map function in Picasa. I sometimes also combine GPS data from my phone with images using Lightroom but that is unlikely for this image. - Takeaway (talk) 17:35, 19 November 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for the answer. --C messier (talk) 14:46, 20 November 2014 (UTC)

Categories of Wats in Thailand

Hi. I am about to process and upload my photos of Thailand. I have taken photos of every single and small wat I passed. Now I took a look at Category:Buddhist Temples in Chiang Mai. It seems to be a zoo of names and name convention. I know, there are lot of transcriptions along the internet. Category redirects can solve this. But there are two more points. I think not only one name of a wat is unique in Thailand. Some are more known than others. So I would always add the town's/villages's name to the category name. Additionally i would use a category direct to the most well nown wat... I have done this already (e.g.: Category:Wat Haysoke). What do you think. And if we (have to) add thw towns name. What's the rule here? Comma separated or bracketed? Has the community talked about it? I don't want to touch/reorganise anything it here without asking. Greetings from Cottbus, Germany. DerFussi 08:43, 29 November 2014 (UTC)

Hi DerFussi. Preferably, the transcription should follow the Royal Thai General System of Transcription. An easy tool for transcribing the Thai original into RTGS is www.thai-language.com/dict. It is best to use the "Bulk Lookup" function whenever possible because the direct "Generate Phonemic Transcription for Thai Text" doesn't take into account that RTGS actually follows pronunciation, and not the direct transcription of written Thai where some things are, and other things aren't pronounced as they are written. The general system now for adding locations to a temple name seems to be to use a comma after the temple name, followed by the location. As far as I know, the community hasn't really talked about this. Often, it's Hdamm and myself categorising stuff and this system seems to suit us. Regards, - Takeaway (talk) 16:06, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for the useful information. -- DerFussi 18:03, 21 December 2014 (UTC)

Eiernockerl

Hi Takeaway, Eiernockerl is spicy stuff. In Austria Nockerl can be spicy or sweet (like Salzburger Nockerl). Eiernockerl you eat with salad and salt & pepper. enjoy your meal. --Herzi Pinki (talk) 21:50, 4 December 2014 (UTC)

I'm not sure, if I chose the right cat: [1] and: [2] Maybe you can find a more suitable cat? Cheers --hdamm (talk) 14:46, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

Hdamm, I put them in Category:Embassies in Bangkok, and also put them in Category:Sealing stamps of embassies of Austria and Category:Sealing stamps of embassies of Germany. Regards, - Takeaway (talk) 15:53, 17 December 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, that's better. Thank you very much. --hdamm (talk) 16:51, 17 December 2014 (UTC)

Hi Takeaway. I noticed that you edited File:Chicken moambe with French fries (14792587921).jpg to categorize it in the Netherlands. How did you determine that the photo was taken in the Netherlands? I just ask because I wasn't able to figure out the country when I transferred the photo from Flickr. —Mr. Granger (talk  · contribs) 23:07, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

Hey hi Mr. Granger! I looked up the Flickr photostream, and looked at the images that were made on the same or surrounding days by the user who uploaded it. These were all made in the Netherlands. - Takeaway (talk) 23:09, 11 February 2015 (UTC)

"Turkish desserts of Turkey"

Hi there. I see that you're good in cats. We have two separate cats for "Turkish desserts" and "Desserts of Turkey". Can you do something to unite and merge these two cats? I am a little clumsy on these things. Thank you. Sawas dee... --E4024 (talk) 14:02, 17 March 2015 (UTC)

Recategorised all media in "Turkish desserts" to "Desserts of Turkey" as that follows the standard naming convention here on Wikimedia. - Takeaway (talk) 14:05, 17 March 2015 (UTC)

butter-based

[3] Do you really believe that this tiny piece of butter makes the whole meal "butter-based"? SpiderMum (talk) 18:19, 9 April 2015 (UTC)

I moved all the media that were in Category:Butter as food to Category:Butter-based food. It would seem that that particular file would indeed be better off in Category:Butter. You can just change it if you want. - Takeaway (talk) 20:02, 9 April 2015 (UTC)
I just saw that it was actually already in Category:Sliced butter so I removed the overcat. - Takeaway (talk) 20:13, 9 April 2015 (UTC)

Color balance

Greetings Takeaway! Just noticed your high quality work on File:Fatayer.jpg. I tried to do something similar on File:Meyers b11 s0476a.jpg, but not nearly as well. I reckon you could probably do a better job there, while preserving the overall hues. Would you mind trying your hand at fixing the white balance on the original map? Kind regards – Soupforone (talk) 03:39, 18 April 2015 (UTC)

Soupforone - I made some changes from the original that you linked here above. The discolouration in the original seemed fairly natural to me so I only toned that down slightly. To my eye, it wasn't caused by a faulty colour balance of the camera. I think the photo needed additional clarity, some minor sharpening, and a bit more contrast more than anything else. I hope you like the result. - Takeaway (talk) 03:54, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
Much obliged Takeway! The hues are clearer, but still true to the original map and the text is also more legible. Thanks again – Soupforone (talk) 04:09, 18 April 2015 (UTC)
Cheers! - Takeaway (talk) 04:22, 18 April 2015 (UTC)

Greetings again Takeaway! I need your advice regarding something - apologies if it's a bit long-winded. For several weeks now, an editor has been attempting to replace this map, File:Meyers b11 s0476a.jpg, with various versions he created that all contain inaccurate hues. These hues are far removed from those in the original map on which File:Meyers b11 s0476a.jpg was based. His initial rationale for doing this was that his map was the "largest and legible". This was despite the fact that some smudging had clearly been added to certain areas. He eventually acknowledged the smudging issue, claimed to have fixed it, abandoned the whole size argument, and began uploading an even smaller map. However, the hues were still unlike those in the original map, and it was difficult to make out from the legend box what elements they each were meant to represent. Instead of making the necessary adjustments to align them with the hues in the original map, he then uploaded a parallel version of the map under a different name, File:Meyers map.jpg, but preserved the inaccurate hues. He has since been trying to force that altered map onto various English Wikipedia and foreign Wikipedia pages in place of File:Meyers b11 s0476a.jpg.

Today, he attempted to substitute the quality color balance work you graciously made yesterday on File:Meyers b11 s0476a.jpg with one of his older map versions containing inaccurate hues. His stated rationale for doing this was that he was simply "clearing paper only". However, a glance at the middle of his map version shows that it is not in fact an adjusted version of the original map since it is missing the original's thin vertical line in the middle. What in your judgement is the best thing to do here? If the hues in the map and its legend box aren't true to those in the original, the map as a whole is misleading and virtually useless. Kind regards – Soupforone (talk) 04:43, 19 April 2015 (UTC)

It seems to me that this editor tries too hard to "clean" an old map, trying to make it look as if it's computer-generated, and thereby destroys part of the charm of an old map. The result is far removed from the original and should therefore be uploaded as a new file instead of as a new version of the original file. The next step would then be to achieve a consensus on the wikipedia pages where this map is being used, as to which file is preferred: one which is a clearer version of the original but retains the "old look", or one which tries to recreate a computer-generated map by extensively using photoshop. But if you want to have this resolved solely within Wikimedia, it might be best to raise this issue at Commons:Graphics village pump. - Takeaway (talk) 13:28, 19 April 2015 (UTC)
Many thanks Takeaway! That is great advice and a perfect encapsulation of the situation. The editor seems to have eased up on the antics today. However, if there is any further disruption, I will be sure to follow your advice and take the matter up on either the relevant Wikipedia page(s) or Commons:Graphics village pump. I'll keep you posted on any developments. Please let me know if you need assistance with anything on your end. Kind regards – Soupforone (talk) 02:22, 20 April 2015 (UTC)
Good luck! - Takeaway (talk) 11:52, 20 April 2015 (UTC)

category name

Mind if I move your Category:French fries making to Category:Making french fries (or Category:Cooking french fries, or Category:Preparing french fries), any of which is much better English? Feel free to choose among the three possibilities. - Jmabel ! talk 18:59, 29 April 2015 (UTC)

Jmabel. I don't have a problem about having the category name changed. i also find it fairly ugly but it happens to be so that many similar categories are already called "....making", and this has become somewhat of a standard here on Wikimedia. See Category:Food preparation for more instances of "...making". - Takeaway (talk) 20:07, 29 April 2015 (UTC)
Yeah, English can be weird. Another possibility (for which I see parallels there) is Category:French fry preparation. And, no, I cannot even begin to explain why that uses the singular "fry". English can be weird. - Jmabel ! talk 00:19, 30 April 2015 (UTC)
Great! I must have had a moment of brain freeze when I used the the plural "fries". :) - Takeaway (talk) 10:11, 30 April 2015 (UTC)

Afiyet olsun! Takeaway, just FYI, there are some Turkish dishes that have the word "kebap" (or "kebabı") in their names but they are not -considered- kebabs. Tas kebabı, patlıcan kebabı (not "patlıcanlı kebap", two different dishes) are "stews", not kebabs. Cheers. --E4024 (talk) 15:55, 4 June 2015 (UTC)
Ah okay E4024, I just started the Category:Soups and stews of Turkey. Perhaps you can recategorised the "tas kebab" file that I had put into the kebab category to the new category? And perhaps a bunch of other categories and files too? I don't know Turkish cuisine very well so it might be better if someone else who does, starts recategorising this. - Takeaway (talk) 18:56, 4 June 2015 (UTC)
Oh E4024, and please carefully read COM:OVERCAT. I saw that most of your uploads are placed into both specific categories as well as in (many) of its parent categories. This is not only unnecessary, but it also makes it more difficult to find specific media. - Takeaway (talk) 20:13, 4 June 2015 (UTC)
Takeaway, I am not so young and learn difficultly. :-) If I give you an impression like someone who knows Turkish cuisine better than you, please do not merge in one category "Turkish soups" and "Turkish stews". Keep them separately. Of course they may be subcategories of "Turkish soups and stews". Thanks again and cheers. --E4024 (talk) 07:52, 5 June 2015 (UTC)

File:Rupicapra Rupicapra.jpg‎

Thanks for that... FYI, the reason Flickr files are showing up like that (no description or categories) is that I'm trawling through a list of 'zombie' images that were uploaded by someone else with Flickr2Commons, and ended up with an file but no information page... I'm just trying to add the basic source/author/license data to as many as possible quickly. Revent (talk) 20:52, 4 June 2015 (UTC)

You are welcome Revent. I know about about the "zombie files" by that specific uploader. It's because when they do categorise a file, that file tends to end up in many different categories that have very little or nothing to do with what the file is about. That's why in this case it's safer that this user's uploads are not categorised. - Takeaway (talk) 20:56, 4 June 2015 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) This is a different issue (though quite likely due to the speed at which he was uploading)... they are images with, literally, no file page.... you see the image and upload history, but with no page content and a 'create' tab. It's a technical problem. See File:JAGNA- Church Ceiling (14529479189).jpg as a random example that's far enough up the list I won't get to it soon.
(added after ec) Yup, tho I'm not crazy about leaving them as orphans, but it's better than nothing at all. Revent (talk) 21:00, 4 June 2015 (UTC)
Oops, I indeed see what you mean now: no file description was added by the uploader. It would seem indeed that the uploader is more concerned with uploading as much as possible from Flickr in the shortest possible time, and not care as much for making their uploads complete, neither in file description, nor the categories. I feel like I am someone's mom sometimes, cleaning up stuff I didn't ask for... LOL! - Takeaway (talk) 21:04, 4 June 2015 (UTC)
Well... no comment on his motives, but this particular issue was actually a technical bug, it's the bot that failed to create the actual file pages... they aren't blank, they actually don't exist (which 'should' be impossible) There was the same issue about the same time with a GWToolset task that was getting HTTP timeouts from the source server.... I 'suspect' it was a matter of two very bandwidth-intensive upload tasks happening at the same time. Revent (talk) 21:21, 4 June 2015 (UTC)
(I have, admittedly, had some rather WTF conversations with him on IRC) Revent (talk) 21:24, 4 June 2015 (UTC)
LOL okay! I'd indeed incorrectly assumed that it followed from this user's specific way of uploading. Thanks for the explanation! Oh, and my edit summary was actually more meant for said user. - Takeaway (talk) 21:25, 4 June 2015 (UTC)

Earthenware recipients

I think we should have a category with this title. --E4024 (talk) 11:48, 8 June 2015 (UTC)

E4024. A recipient is a person who receives something. I am guessing that you want to create "earthernware receptacle" as a category for earthernware cooking pots etcetera. There seem to be a whole bunch of categories for such objects already and in my opinion "earthernware receptacle" is much too broad for what you want because it could also mean water jars, funeral urns, wine amphora, and even such things as ceramic pots for plants. Have a look at Category:Ceramic kitchenware to see if there is not already a category for what you want to categorise. - Takeaway (talk) 12:17, 8 June 2015 (UTC)
(Now I think I am the recipient of a little criticism here. :-) Sorry, I am trying to learn several languages at a time, although I may be making similar mistakes in my own mother tongue too. Consider the suggestion withdrawn, if we're not going to send letters to the Chinese warriors... :-) --E4024 (talk) 12:25, 8 June 2015 (UTC)

Deletion requests regarding food pictures from India

Hi, thanks for taking time to comment on deletion requests from food pictures from India. Unfortunately, there has been some misunderstanding regarding expectations for Wiki Loves Food contest. What is the procedure for reverting inappropriate deletion requests?--Ravi (talk) 08:12, 10 June 2015 (UTC)

@ Ravi. The nominators can withdraw the deletion request themselves. They will first need to write that they withdraw their deletion request on the nomination page (for an example, see here), and then they can remove the deletion request from the file (for an example, see this dif and edit summary). It would also be nice to write a "sorry, mistake" message to the person who uploaded the file because they would have gotten a deletion notice on their talk page without understanding why. Perhaps something along the lines of "Sorry for having incorrectly requested the deletion of this file due to a misunderstanding. Thank you very much for your upload."
I also find that the rule "Images with too many food items mixed in the same frame" is sometimes used too harsh by nominators. How else can a meal which consists of different food items be illustrated? - Takeaway (talk) 10:03, 10 June 2015 (UTC)
@ Ravi As for those files that are not eligible per the rules of the event, a new category should be created in Category:Wiki Loves Food called, for instance, Category:Obviously ineligible submissions for WLF 2015, similar to what can be seen here -> Category:Wiki Loves Earth 2015 in Thailand. Files that are not eligible, can be recategorised from Category:Images from Wiki Loves Food 2015 into the ineligible category. - Takeaway (talk) 10:16, 10 June 2015 (UTC)

Bravo!

Sütlaç from Turkey, I made it for you. Never get tired?

Bots

You are receiving this message because a technical change may affect a bot, gadget, or user script you have been using. The breaking change involves API calls. This change has been planned for two years. The WMF will start making this change on 30 June 2015. A partial list of affected bots can be seen here: https://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2015-June/081931.html This includes all bots that are using pywikibot compat. Some of these bots have already been fixed. However, if you write user scripts or operate a bot that uses the API, then you should check your code, to make sure that it will not break.

What, exactly, is breaking? The "default continuation mode" for action=query requests to api.php will be changing to be easier for new coders to use correctly. To find out whether your script or bot may be affected, then search the source code (including any frameworks or libraries) for the string "query-continue". If that is not present, then the script or bot is not affected. In a few cases, the code will be present but not used. In that case, the script or bot will continue working.

This change will be part of 1.26wmf12. It will be deployed to test wikis (including mediawiki.org) on 30 June, to non-Wikipedias (such as Wiktionary) on 1 July, and to all Wikipedias on 2 July 2015.

If your bot or script is receiving the warning about this upcoming change (as seen at https://www.mediawiki.org/w/api.php?action=query&list=allpages ), it's time to fix your code!

Either of the above solutions may be tested immediately, you'll know it works because you stop seeing the warning.

Do you need help with your own bot or script? Ask questions in e-mail on the mediawiki-api or wikitech-l mailing lists. Volunteers at m:Tech or w:en:WP:Village pump (technical) or w:en:Wikipedia:Bot owners' noticeboard may also be able to help you.

Are you using someone else's gadgets or user scripts? Most scripts are not affected. To find out if a script you use needs to be updated, then post a note at the discussion page for the gadget or the talk page of the user who originally made the script. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 19:03, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

Alacahöyük

Home-made chicken and potato dish, baked in the oven, in Ankara, Turkey.

You work almost like a bot, congratulations! Let me ask a question to you: What do you think about that link? Frankly I even do not know why we have a page for certain titles and not for others; but (BUT! :) if it's a good thing, "Alacahöyük" should certainly have one. What? Can you help to have one here? Thanks. --E4024 (talk) 14:40, 18 June 2015 (UTC)

If you mean by "link" a page in Wikimedia (and not a category), you will have to take this up with Sumerophile~commonswiki who deleted the page. - Takeaway (talk) 14:45, 18 June 2015 (UTC)
The user that does no edits since 2008? He could have even died... --E4024 (talk) 14:49, 18 June 2015 (UTC)
Some people take the trouble to make pages with images for certain subjects. It is up to editors to do so or not. There is no policy concerning pages on Wikimedia that I know of. Why don't you then just revert this user's edits if you think a page is needed there. I have no opinion on this subject. I normally don't care too much about having pages at all for subjects in Wikimedia because I find having (correct) categories enough. - Takeaway (talk) 14:53, 18 June 2015 (UTC)

Turkish cuisine cookies "kurabiye" with hazelnut pieces ("fındıklı kurabiye").

Would it be too much to ask you to trim File:Francala.jpg for me? It would be very kind of you if you have some time. Thanks in advance. --E4024 (talk) 07:44, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

E4024. The biggest problem with that file is that it is not a very good image. Perhaps you can upload a new version which also shows the bread cut open to show the consistency of the bread itself, not just the outside? And hopefully photographed in daytime because the present file is blurry due to your phone not coping well with low light situations. - Takeaway (talk) 11:45, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for the cropping and for the advice. My hope in cropping was to make disappear a botton of a silly oven (other than burning my fingers occasionally, this old oven destroys my pics! :-) --E4024 (talk) 11:53, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
E4024, please take a look at Google's free w:Picasa program for editing photos. It's a very simple to use but extremely effective photo editing program with which you can crop photos, adjust white balance and more in a very intuitive way. - Takeaway (talk) 12:35, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

Category:Mu Ko Similan National Park

Hi Takeaway, you created this new category and put some files in it. A few questions:
How is it possible, that this national park belongs to three districts (Thai Mueang District, Takua Pa District, Khura Buri District, regarding the categories)?
All the pictures in this category were shot on the Similand Islands. Because the Islands category is - rightly - a subcategory of the Park Category, all these pics are not listed in the Similan Islands, what is wrong in my eyes. I would file them one category below - is it alright for you? Thanks and kind regards, --Emha (talk) 17:21, 30 June 2015 (UTC)

@ Emha: The park is spread out over these 3 districts, and that is why I put Category:Mu Ko Similan National Park in the district categories. When I was categorising all the images of Category:Images from Wiki Loves Earth 2015 in Thailand, I just put the images for the Similan islands into the category for the national park, forgetting that they actually should be put into its subcategory Category:Similan Islands. Thanks for reminding me! I'll do that now. - Takeaway (talk) 19:46, 30 June 2015 (UTC)
Thanks a lot! Kindes regards, --Emha (talk) 10:08, 1 July 2015 (UTC)

2 in 1

Takeaway, can we put 2 pics as 1 file? I mean to be able to show something with a comparison. Now look at the first 2 images I will load and you will understand better. --E4024 (talk) 08:23, 3 July 2015 (UTC)

E4024: Is this what you mean? Or do you mean to have two files next to one another in an article such as here? - Takeaway (talk) 10:54, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
I meant like the sauce bottles; although I thought that could better be just "one file". I will show you another couple of files that should go together (like these kebabs) for better comprehension: File:Manti (practical).jpg and File:Makarna manti.jpg --E4024 (talk) 11:08, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
You'd have to join them together with an image editing program first before uploading. I prefer using the above method so people can choose what they want when using your images for an article. This way someone who doesn't want to have an ultra-wide joined image as an illustration of patlican kebap, can use the final result, after the foil has been removed. Or use them above each other in, for instance, a recipe. Now you want to force them to use the images as you have joined them, leaving out any choice for other users. - Takeaway (talk) 11:15, 3 July 2015 (UTC)
No, no, no forcing, just chatting. Thanks for your kind attention. --E4024 (talk) 11:19, 3 July 2015 (UTC)

Hi. How did you see the balls? Where are they in File:WP 20140401 007.jpg? --E4024 (talk) 12:23, 10 July 2015 (UTC)

I just saw ball-shaped things and read the text, but didn't have a closer look. On closer inspection there are indeed no meatballs in the photo so the text should be changed. You could have done that yourself. - Takeaway (talk) 12:44, 10 July 2015 (UTC)
I had not seen the text myself, I thought you have been thinking about Turkish köftes... :-) --E4024 (talk) 12:58, 10 July 2015 (UTC)

Wiki Loves Food

Hi there

Just wanted to inform you that we just completed our public photo competition on Wikimedia Commons called [Commons:Wiki Loves Food]. Aim of this competition was to improve the quality of pictures of different cuisines of the Indian sub-continental region. We intend to cleanup the 2 categories consists of all the pictures uploaded [Category:Wiki Loves Food] & [Category:Images from Wiki Loves Food 2015].

Thanks Yohannvt (talk) 07:50, 30 July 2015 (UTC)

I saw you are removing this category from images taken in Austria in July 2015 and adding it to the respective categories of the events instead. The info text at the top of the category's page says: Images should be placed directly in this category That's why I did so. I guess it has something to do with enabling a search via CatScan. --Tsui (talk) 05:12, 15 August 2015 (UTC)

Sorry Tsui, I didn't see the text. Other "July 2015 in...." categories don't show this text. I'll undo my edits. Cheers! - Takeaway (talk) 12:52, 15 August 2015 (UTC)

Cat. for "Bangkok bombing" photo?

Hi Takeaway.

Do we have a suitable category for File:2015 Bangkok bombing VOA.jpg? We do not have a category like "Incidents in Thailand" or "Incidents in Bangkok", or do we?

Right now I put this file into Category:Erawan Shrine‎.

Any Ideas?

Greatings --hdamm (talk) 08:29, 20 August 2015 (UTC)

Hi Hdamm, we'll need to create at least Category:Crime in Thailand, but maybe just go the whole way and also create its subcategory Category:Terrorism in Thailand. - Takeaway (talk) 12:15, 20 August 2015 (UTC)
Great, thank you for creating the cat. Greetings --hdamm (talk) 13:29, 20 August 2015 (UTC)

script error: the module returned a value. it is supposed to return an export table

Hello Takeaway,

I need a little help please. I uploaded a photo named File:Angela Craciun, Présidente de la Fondation André Malraux avec Florence Malraux, fille d'André Malraux.jpg. It seems that an error appeared at the date section that says: script error: the module returned a value. it is supposed to return an export table and i don't know what that means. Now, I have erased the date, but I cannot find the file online if I google it. What should I do to find my file? Can you please give a hand?

Thank you!

Hi Fondation André Malraux. Not sure what happened with Wikimedia either today but I got the same error too for several things. Perhaps it is a glitch? Anyway, you can find your file here -> File:Angela Craciun, Présidente de la Fondation André Malraux avec Florence Malraux, fille d'André Malraux.jpg.
PS I removed several categories from that file per COM:OVERCAT which states that "parent categories" should be avoided . Seeing that the file is already placed in Category:André Malraux, the other categories we not needed. - Takeaway (talk) 20:00, 26 August 2015 (UTC)
Thank you. I managed to change the way the date was written, and now it is ok, but my problem remains with the google search. If I try to search it on google after some key words from the title,it does't show up, not even on the third page. Can you help me with this please?
Hi again Fondation André Malraux. Sorry, but I don't know how to manipulate Google Search's results. - 08:45, 27 August 2015 (UTC)
Thank you again Takeaway.

Merge

Hi there. "Category:Sportswomen from Turkey" and "Category:Turkish sportswomen" must be merged. After vacations I barely tackle with food items. Can you help? Thanks in advance. --E4024 (talk) 08:36, 28 August 2015 (UTC)

Done E4024. I changed Category:Turkish sportswomen to a redirect and moved the media to the appropriate category.
I think that in future, Category:Turkish sportswomen can be used for sportswomen who are of Turkish descent but who were born, or live, outside of Turkey. Then, Category:Sportswomen from Turkey can be made a subcategory of Category:Turkish sportswomen. When that happens, you will also need to somehow connect Category:Turkish sportswomen with Category:People of Turkish descent. - Takeaway (talk) 11:33, 28 August 2015 (UTC)
Just saw this. What is the problem with Turkish people? Aren't they the same as Americans or Germans? There are people of some 50 ethnic backgrounds within the Turkish people, but they are all Turks. Or does Wikipedia have a confusion? --E4024 (talk) 08:12, 6 October 2015 (UTC)
@E4024: , you asked me a question, and then I pinged you in the reply but you only saw this now?
Think a bit about why I did what I did:
1. The standard way of naming this category is "Sportswomen from ...." (see the main category Category:Sportswomen by country.
2. Later, if there are files of sportswomen from Turkish descent (any one of the 50 ethnic groups) who were born, for instance, in Germany, or now have, for instance, a German citizenship, then Category:Turkish sportswomen can be used. And it is only logical that Category:Sportswomen from Turkey is their subcategory.
3. As for a sportsperson to be from one of the 50 ethnic groups, then they'd have to also be put into the appropriate category, for instance into Category:Kurdish people in Turkey or one of its subcategories. - Takeaway (talk) 12:13, 6 October 2015 (UTC)

category recursion

Hi there. I noticed that you recently split Category:Rice vermicelli from Category:Vermicelli - thanks for that! However, you accidentally created an infinite category recursion between Category:Rice vermicelli and Category:Rice noodles, as each category is a member of the other. @Pava: . I am changing the categories for "Category:Geographical indications and traditional specialities" at the moment. Most of the files and subcategories I moved to "Category:Food named after places". Now "Category:Geographical indications and traditional specialities" can be used for media as described in w:Geographical indications and traditional specialities in the European Union. This was not clear when I first discovered the category. - Takeaway (talk) 19:25, 10 October 2015 (UTC)
@Pava: . Please also use English language abbreviations for naming categories per COM:CAT. That means "Category:TSG" instead of the Italian "Category:STG." - Takeaway (talk) 19:38, 10 October 2015 (UTC)

Re:Revert other people's speedy delete

I reverted your Speedy because the file does not qualify for Speedy (the Deletion Policy is quite clear). If duplicate, then tag as {{Duplicate}}. If actually useless, then nominate for deletion. usually tags for Speeyd his uploads of book scans if them are empy pages, that this case isn't. --Amitie 10g (talk) 17:56, 19 November 2015 (UTC)

@Amitie 10g: . As I already wrote on your talk page, shouldn't an admin decide if the file does or doesn't qualify for a speedy delete? Seeing that you are not an admin, it seems to me that reverting a deletion request was not for you to do. And that file, mainly a huge blob of black with a few barely discernible scribbles on it, actually can qualify for a "speedy" as mentioned in Commons:Criteria for speedy deletion: ..."contains content that is gibberish or of nothing meaningful." As for Fae tagging their uploads for deletion, Fae uses a bot for that, which seems to only discover totally blank pages, and doesn't tag images which are mainly a big huge blob of black as is the case with this file. As for the duplicate, I only discovered that later. The reason why I also mentioned the duplicate in the renewed (full) deletion request, is that contributors can voice their opinion if that file might also need to be removed. - Takeaway (talk) 18:19, 19 November 2015 (UTC)
No. The Speedy tags can be removed or reverted by any (trusted) user who considers the speedy inapropiate (but is better to convert them to DR as I should done instead). The normal DRs are the only cases where only admins can close them (unless in vandalism cases). As you already know, Speedy should be applied only to blatant cases of vandalism or copyvio; taggng for Speedy files that does not meet the Criteria for Speedy deletion is a violation of the Deletion Policy. --Amitie 10g (talk) 18:29, 19 November 2015 (UTC)
@Amitie 10g: Your interpretation of Commons:Criteria for speedy deletion is incorrect. It clearly states in point 1: Test page, accidental creation, or page containing nonsense or no valid content. My "speedy delete" request was therefore valid and it was not for you, who is not an administrator, to judge if it should or should not be removed. And although that rule applies to pages, it has, in my own experience, also been accepted by admins as a rule for files as it is a general rule. - Takeaway (talk) 18:36, 19 November 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for the huge laugh earlier

Greetings: I do not think I have had the pleasure of meeting you yet, but I totally appreciated your utterly dry and straight faced Deletion Nomination of the C. Hart Merriam whatever-it-was cover of something or another. I nearly laughed myself silly not at all that the nomination is wrong, indeed both of those probably should vanish - but at the careful patient tone you put into stating the size, shape, toenail polish color, and other details about the obvious elephant in the room. Please let me know if you need any help around here. Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 00:06, 21 November 2015 (UTC) PS I am an admin.

@Ellin Beltz: Glad to have made you laugh! And thank you for your extremely informative and nicely formulated user page! I accidentally stumbled across it earlier when I discovered this user's attempt to remove the deletion request of his uploads while I was clearing out some files from the overcrowded and overused Category:Photographs. There was something about their user name that attracted my attention and made me investigate their contributions. Having a puerile mind can sometimes be a good thing I guess. I must admit though, that I was wrong in the above discussion about who is allowed to judge a speedy delete request. Only after, did I discover the sentence "If anyone disagrees with the speedy deletion of a particular file...". But then again, why contest something that is so obviously unusable, forcing a discussion that only takes up more time and bytes? Oh well, procedures must be followed to keep out the chaos. Thanks for the heads-up and your kind offer! - Takeaway (talk) 12:35, 21 November 2015 (UTC)
There's a huge difference between disagreeing with a speedy correctly and incorrectly. If a file is copyright, removing a speedy tag is just plain wrong. If a file is useless, it's probably (considering the environment atm) "better" to send it to DN where we can all chuckle and delete. As for this exact situation, the problem that might be happening here is that some non-admin users seem to think that their mandate applies to administrative actions, without the experience required to make the judgement calls. And some, maybe the same some, maybe a different some, have a very rigid (and sometimes humorously incorrect) view of what constitutes a copyvio. In general, however, it is a very bad idea to remove speedy tags without sending the file to Deletion Nomination - and most especially ripping off the speedy tags and throwing the files back into the general pile without action. That is perhaps the worst thing anyone could do - especially ones ambitious to become admins are on the fast track to Nowhere with actions like that. Earlier this year, this same thing happened at least once. I only kept track of the second batch: 24 tags removed. I put the 24 files to DN, one was retained after its template was fixed, the other 23 were blatant copyvios including a photo of U.K. Prince Philip in full regalia in a palace claimed as own work with no metadata, of course. A fast Google search showed it was (C) and very very (C). Not even a hard search - so utterly amazing to me that anyone ripped off the speedy tag on that one. The other 22 were close to equally obviously copyvio's. It didn't make a lot of sense. Warnings were offered. Some people learn from their situations - others don't. I truly appreciate your conversion of this file from nothing to speedy and then from nothing to DN. Please let me know if I can be of any further assistance. Cheers! Ellin Beltz (talk) 15:26, 21 November 2015 (UTC)
Ellin Beltz Having now watched some of the problem fora here in Wikimedia Commons for a while, it would seem that someone wants to have as many files as possible as DN's, as then more admins are needed.... ;-) - Takeaway (talk) 12:03, 2 May 2016 (UTC)
Hahaha, that might be it! We must make more work, we must have more admins! LOL. Ellin Beltz (talk) 17:29, 3 May 2016 (UTC)

Vegan Recipes and your wonderful photos

Dear "Takeaway" I'm in train to set up our special programs for vegan recipes. One part covers heated menues and the other raw food. Up to now I have only worked on texts like book reviews etc. on diet-health.info.

When I was looking up currypaste, I saw your picture and tried to find out in vain how to contact you by eMail. Now I try it this way and hope I can get an answer from you. My eMail is erb@radiomuseum.org.

English ist not my first language (I'm Swiss), but we might even be able to talk via Skype if you like (ernst.erb diet-health). Since I don't know sufficient about the licencing but want to be correct, is it possible that you answer with an example for you (CC3)? Maybe some member may like your photos in the future and might load up a recipe with a photo of yours (or other contributors here with the same copyright class).

thank you very much in helping me for this.

Mainly Birmingham Alabama food images

Thanks for cleaning up

Having returned from vacation, I see that you did in fact recategorise the Flickr food images I had uploaded on 24 November that had bad or poor categories. I want through them again yesterday and refined some of them but want to thank you for all the work you did on these. BTW, do you know of a method of adding a category to many images after they have been uploaded. Obviously it might have been better to add just one category to all images, for later review, and not let the upload bot select categories based on the Flickr descriptions. Again thanks and have a happy holiday. Ww2censor (talk) 10:27, 25 December 2015 (UTC)

Speedy deletes

Greetings: I recently closed a file which you had tagged: "This file is a copyright violation for the following reason: Many instances of this image found on the internet. Possible copyright violation." If it would be possible for you to provide the URL of the image found on the internet, or even the link to the google or tineye search fields, that would make it a lot easier to close the speedy. Re:What a pity

Sorry about that.
Could you please let me know which criteria did you use for categorization, so I can help with checking it?
In fact I think the actual categorization about spaghetti is quite weird and complex and some mistake or misunderstanding could arise. In particular, these cases could happen:

  1. an image of spaghetti prepared in Italy (that means inside Italian borders) following the Italian kitchen
  2. an image of spaghetti prepared in Italy in strange ways (so not related to the "Italian tradition of spaghetti")
  3. an image of spaghetti prepared in Italy following some traditional kitchen of other countries
  4. an image of spaghetti not prepared in Italy following the Italian kitchen
  5. an image of spaghetti not prepared in Italy in strange ways (so not related to the "Italian tradition of spaghetti")
  6. an image of spaghetti not prepared in Italy following some traditional kitchen of other countries.

In my opinion the categorization is weird because it is more important for readers to know that spaghetti where prepared following the traditional Italian kitchen instead to know that they were prepared in Italy or outside Italy.
However, I think that just images of type 1, 2 and 3 has to be in Category:Spaghetti in Italy and its sub-categories. How did you understand that an image is related to case 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6? Are you just looking at the picture and the title, or also at the description or are you looking at metadata also?
Furthermore I see that at least two categories (Category:Spaghetti alla chitarra and Category:Mangiamaccheroni‎) are related to the Italian traditional kitchen (not sure about the second one, I have to check it), but for what I said before this does not necessarily means that these spaghetti were prepared in Italy. So if you agree we can create Category:Spaghetti alla chitarra in Italy and Mangiamaccheroni in Italy‎. --Daniele Pugliesi (talk) 03:30, 6 May 2016 (UTC)

Daniele Pugliesi, I have only looked at which dishes had been made inside Italy, and which weren't. The spaghetti dishes made inside Italy didn't seem to be following any kitchen of another country but if you can discern which do and which don't, feel free to add in the additional category for them. As for those dishes made outside of Italy but following the Italian tradition, they're out of luck. It would be much too difficult to discern which one are, and which ones aren't correct. At least with the distinction "Spaghetti in Italy" and "Spaghetti in [another country]", there is less chance that weird non-Italian versions will feature as if they were the real thing. - Takeaway (talk) 13:16, 9 May 2016 (UTC)
Sorry, I am not good with this type of categorization. I will try to avoid that it will happen again. --Daniele Pugliesi (talk) 01:04, 12 May 2016 (UTC)

Re:Dishes in Italy

And then the dishes of Sushi prepared in Italy, including them in Italian cuisine or Japanese cuisine? --Civa61 (talk) 07:44, 6 May 2016 (UTC)

I think Takeaway would say "Japanese cuisine in Italy". Am I right Takeaway? (Sorry for the stalking. :-) Best. --E4024 (talk) 07:46, 6 May 2016 (UTC)
Civa61, E4024. Indeed, I'd put them into "Japanese cuisine in Italy", at least as an additional category, or in "Sushi in Italy" because a lot of the sushi eaten outside of Japan is actually derived from the Californian interpretation of Japanese sushi and not very Japanese at all; or about as Japanese as "Spaghetti with meatballs" is Italian. - Takeaway (talk) 08:08, 6 May 2016 (UTC)

XRay. I didn't think it was a very good name. I thought it was a better name than its old name though, which was just Category:Nature Strikes Back which invited many uploads which had nothing to do with the photo challenge as the category was placed directly into Category:Nature as if it was a "normal" category. At least this way it is absolutely clear that it is not a "normal" category. I also had no idea where these photo challenge categories are normally hidden away and didn't feel like looking for them. But apparently you do know where they are and how they should be named so please feel free to change the name to something more suitable and recategorise it to its correct location. - Takeaway (talk)
XRay, just in case you didn't read my reply above, here's another ping. Please feel free to change the name of that category into whatever you think is best. - Takeaway (talk) 21:09, 20 May 2016 (UTC)
I do not want to change the name. He, however, does not fit in the line. And the categories of this type have been previously set. In my opinion it was OK before - without "Commons:Photo challenge/2015 - May - ". Now it should be clarified that the missing categories should be applied.--XRay talk 04:44, 21 May 2016 (UTC)
XRay. I don't really understand what you are saying. You don't like this name but you don't want to change it and it also should be recategorized but you don't want to do that either? As I explained before, the old name, Category:Nature Strikes Back, attracted files which did not take part in the photo challenge at all so, in that respect, it was an ambiguous and therefore a bad name. In the link that you provided, Category:Photo challenge/2014, I also noticed that none of the categories in it are placed into a mainspace category unlike this one was. Also, they all include "Photo challenge/2014" in their title unlike the original Category:Nature Strikes Back but still you prefer Category:Nature Strikes Back. Can you please explain why? And what is it that you actually came here to my talkpage for, that you want me to do? - Takeaway (talk) 10:28, 21 May 2016 (UTC)
The main reason for my note is the double namespace "Category" and "Commons". You choose both. The other reason is creating categories for the photo challenges stopped in 2014. IMO all missing categories should be created if you like to continue creating categories for the photo challenges. But it's not important. Keep calm. --XRay talk 16:08, 21 May 2016 (UTC)
XRay. I really have no idea what you are talking about that I chose both "Category" and "Commons". Look, you come here apparently wanting me to do something but you just won't say what. And neither will you do that something yourself. The original creator (who is not me, I just renamed it to its present name) of the very incorrectly named Category:Nature Strikes Back was wrong in naming it that way back then. So please give it a correct name, and please place it in the correct category. I only changed it from that very wrong name to its present name because it was a very incorrect name, and placed in the wrong category. I don't know anything about the photo challenge of 2014. I don't know where these photo challenge cateoires are placed either. I actually don't want anything to do with it except prevent an incorrectly named category to be in Category:Nature. So please please please change the name to something that you deem correct, and please please please get it out of Category:Nature before it, even with its present name, attracts even more images that have nothing to do with the photo challenge of 2014. - Takeaway (talk) 22:43, 21 May 2016 (UTC)
I don't want to discuss Category:Nature Strikes Back is useful or not. If I create a category like Category:Commons:Photo challenge/2015 - May - Mother Nature Strikes Back the name should be Category:Photo challenge/2015 - May - Mother Nature Strikes Back - without "Commons". All other categories in Category:Photo challenge pictures are created in this way. Please see the last one: Category:Photo challenge/2014 - July - Tools of the trade. The categories from 2015 are missing in Category:Photo challenge pictures too. Next I'ld create all missing categories since July 2014 and put the images into this categories. And with creating Commons:Photo challenge/2015 - May - Mother Nature Strikes Back from the old category Category:Nature Strikes Back I would remove all images taking not part in the photo challenge. That's what I've done. But it's my way.--XRay talk 05:11, 22 May 2016 (UTC)

XRay. Please do it then. The only thing I did was prevent the category from getting even more flooded with irrelevant files.
I do not care about that category. As I have been telling you all along: I stumbled on to it as it was sitting incorrectly categorized in Category:Nature. I had no idea why it was there but it needs to go. So please do what you think must be done.
The only reason why I reverted your recategorisation of it was because you put it into a red-linked category which of course is not correct either. - Takeaway (talk) 12:38, 22 May 2016 (UTC)

Category:Cuisine of Trinidad and Tobago in Germany

Hi Takeaway,
why did you establish a category "Category:Cuisine of Trinidad and Tobago in Germany" and move pictures done by me into it? There is no such thing as Trinidadian kitchen in Germany. That's pure Trini food.
Kind regards, Grueslayer (talk) 12:04, 13 May 2016 (UTC)

@Grueslayer: . I always try to categorise food images that way as it is more precise. It serves 2 purposes: 1. to show where certain country cuisines suddenly emerge in other countries, and 2. to distinguish them from the food of a country as served in that same country.
Very often, with foods served outside of their country of origin, the serving method, ingredients, and even preparation differs from how it would be in their country of origin. I don't really know in your specific case though but well, it is Trinidadian/Tobagan food as made in Germany isn't it? So the category is correct, isn't it? - Takeaway (talk) 12:16, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
Hi Takeaway,
these photos were taken in Trinidad. I'm going there on vacation regularly. The only one of my food photos of Trinidadian dishes that was taken in Germany is File:MISC Callaloo.jpg, which was at least prepared by a Trini chef. ;-)
Kind regards, Grueslayer (talk) 12:23, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
I moved back those images that were made in Trinidad. The 6 images that are now in Category:Cuisine of Trinidad and Tobago in Germany seem to have all been made in Germany per their provided gps coordinates and judging by their background (the same table top), these belong together.
I've had Thai food prepared by Thai chefs outside of Thailand and in nearly all cases, the food was (sometimes very) different from the Thai original. I've even encountered this in restaurants catering to foreign tourists in Thailand, that the food is very different from what it should be. - Takeaway (talk) 12:30, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
Hi Takeaway,
the GPS module of my camera doesn't always work, as seen e.g. here or here. And I find it a bit disturbing that pictures on Commons are being categorized because of a personal experience with Thai food of an individual user. But I lack the time to run after a correction; Commons is a closed book for me and as long as the pictures I need for my articles are there I'm good.
Farewell, Grueslayer (talk) 13:09, 13 May 2016 (UTC)
I've also been doing the same with Italian dishes whenever possible. It horrible to see which images sometimes pass themselves off as such and all of them were not made in Italy. As I said, I don't recategorize these images based on a personal idea of what should or should not feature as the real thing. I only base them on where they were made which, more often than not, says enough, and then let the editors decide. To me it also seems more logical to prefer an image of a foodstuff from a country to actually have been made in that country, over an image made in a, for that particular foodstuff, foreign country. It would be particularly nice if the whole setting played a part in te image too, showing a bit of the local food culture at the same time. - Takeaway (talk) 13:30, 13 May 2016 (UTC)

Hi Monikamik, you need to reply on the deletion request page. Not here on my page. You will also need to supply proof that you have the permission to upload these images. I will post a link on your talkpage which explains things. - Takeaway (talk) 13:39, 27 May 2016 (UTC)

uploading files to wikimedia

Hi there,

I have just read your message (here) about uploading files that violate wikimedia policty. First of all, all the files i have uploaded are needed at projects i am involved in Somali Wikipedia, and some of the files are my own work which i would like to share with the world for free. I honestly don't want to violate anything but can you please let me understand how these files violate wikimedia policy? File:Suqaar-1.jpg and File:Aqal Soomaali.jpg. These files were my own work.

Thanks, Ismail4all (talk) 02:19, 5 June 2016 (UTC)

Hi too @Ismail4all: . I don't remember exactly what those files now are but if I tagged them as a copyright violation, it would mean that I have performed a google image search on them and they then showed up elsewhere. I am sorry that your uploads have been deleted in the meantime if they were indeed your own work. I tend to be very careful in these matters so I in many cases I also research when they had been uploaded elsewhere, and which type of copyright license that they were published with: "all rights reserved" or with another license that is incompatible with the Wikimedia Commons license. Did you indeed publish your images elsewhere before uploading them to Wikimedia? I hope you can upload your files again? - Takeaway (talk) 02:43, 5 June 2016 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

religiuos site near Chiang Rai

Good morning. You are my personal expert in Thai related questions.l I've just uploaded some pictures but I am not sure what kind of religious site it is. It's not a typical wat. Have you got any better idea, how to describe and categorize this site? Thanks in advance. -- DerFussi 08:46, 18 June 2016 (UTC)

@DerFussi: . Good morning too. Thank you but that is way too much of a compliment: I don't even read Thai!
All I could find on the internet about the cave is from the following Chiangraifocus.com forum (http://www.chiangraifocus.com/forums/index.php?topic=13938.0) where it is described not so much as a temple, but instead as a place to practice dharma (สถานปฏิบัติธรรม). I'm not sure what exactly that means in this particular case though.
The first two of your images in the category show the Hindu god Shiva. The second image is a bit strange because there, Shiva wears a robe made from tiger skin (in itself not strange) but it is draped more or less in the fashion of a Ruesi. Not sure if that carries any significance?
The category into which you have put Category:Tham Tu Pu seems correct. I have also added Category:Buddhist caves in Thailand to it. - Takeaway (talk) 10:02, 18 June 2016 (UTC)
Thanks a lot. These are quite a lot of information. It's been two years ago that i took the photos. I should hurry up and work through them all before I forget almost everything..... -- DerFussi 11:35, 18 June 2016 (UTC)
@DerFussi: . Nothing is stopping you from going back to Thailand and double check on 2 year old photos, no? ;-) - Takeaway (talk) 13:11, 18 June 2016 (UTC)
Hahahaha yes... but I booked a flight to China in September for four weeks. I suppose I will come back with at least 100 GB of pictures..... Who knows when I have time to process them all... (last year trip to Thailand is still waiting)... Maybe when I am retired in 20 years from now. But at least I should be able to upload my pictures from Nan and around this summer. -- DerFussi 15:55, 18 June 2016 (UTC)
