Just received your e-mail. Are you aware of the implications of the Creative Commons licence? It involves a permission to reuse the image entierely or in parts for any use commercial or not. Is this what you really want for the cover of your magazine? I asked the deletion to protect your copyright and to make sure you were aware of what it implied. If you still wish to publish your image, please follow these guidelines that apply to already published works. Sorry for my english, it is not my first language. Thank you and have nice day, Letartean (talk) 12:48, 7 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Hello,
Here are the awnsers to your questions you asked by email.
  1. If you want to answer here (and it is better that way so our discussion is public), just hit the modify button at the top of this section. Type your answer just below mine and hit the publish button.
  2. If you want to access the page I indicated you, just click on the blue link. It will bring you to the way to work if you want to publish on Commons a work that has already been published elsewhere. Before you do, please read the end of this message for it is important.
  3. You said in the email, if I may cite it:"Thanks for looking out for us but, as it is our company that owns the copyright to the image, we will be the ones to decide whether or not we display it on our own Wikipedia page." I have to say you are very wrong on many levels here. Let me explain why.
    1. Commons requires you to publish any image on a free licence which means that you have to publish any image with a permission to reuse (even commercialy), modify and republish if you want it to be stored on Commons. This means that if you don't agree to losing your right to decide who, when and where your image will be used, it cannot be uploaded on Commons. As a company, I don't think you want to publish your frontpage with a free licence. This why I asked for it's deletion, because you agreed, maybe without knowing, to these conditions when your image appeared on Commons. You may see this page to learn more about what Commons requires to support your images.
    2. You are not the ones who decide what appears on your Wikipedia page. Wikipedia is collaborative encyclopedia that is built by many volunteers that work together as group. No one can impose his views on a article. Also, Wikipedia is built from reliable external sources. Only things said in reliable external sources can be put on Wikipedia. Finally, Wikipedia is published under a licence that requires the same things as we do on Commons for everything that is written. If you publish something on Wikipedia, everyone can reuse and modify the text. I don't believe it is something corporations do often.
For all those reasons, I believe your company should have a decision taken on your approval of the conditions I cited before you continue publishing on Wikipedia or Commons. I'll be glad to help you if you need anything.
Lastly, I have no power to undelete your image. You will have to ask Commons' sysop if you really want to go through with it and use the OTRS system to give permission.
I hope to help you again if needed, Letartean (talk) 17:22, 7 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Letartean,

Thanks for your reply. I understand that you were trying to be helpful and I really appreciate your looking out for us but I've spoken to the appropriate people at our company and we'd really like our image to be used on the site. We're happy for people to use our content and we fully support people engaging with our publications - as it's only a cover photo we really do not mind others using it as it poses no threat towards us as a company.

I've tried re-uploading the image but it won't let me - how do I go about uploading it again without being blocked?

Thanks for your help,

Andy

I will answer you later since I don't have much more time right now. Thanks for the wait. Letartean (talk) 17:48, 7 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Greetings Andy. I am a Commons Administrator and I am willing to work with you to get your image undeleted. I do understand that you want the work to be used and I appreciate you willing to donate the work. The only thing that is left to do is for you to send that statement, about this image, to permissions-commons@wikimedia.org from your Church of London e-mail account and that will most likely cause your image to be undeleted very quickly. Hello, TCOLondon!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.
