Hello, Sturban!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

I am still stuck on one military acronym[edit]

"Öfwerste-Lieutenants n. h. o. m. 29 Augusti 1723." what does "n. h. o. m." stand for, is it an award? See: File:Lieutenant_Colonel_Joachim_von_Rohr_(1678-1757)_in_Konungariket_Norges_Ståthållare,_Stifts-Amtmän,_Amtmän_och_Commendanter_sedan_år_1814_(1843)_by_August_Theodor_Låstbom.png --RAN (talk) 19:57, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

I have read that a few times now and I can not make out what it stands for, I did some changes in the transcription, you can undo them if you want, just some åäö corrections and replacement of "s" in some places. -I will put forward the question on a FB-forum for genealogy. -- Sturban (talk) 20:16, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It means name, honour and dignity (Q10594234), i.e. he was lietunant colonel by name and title only. -- Sturban (talk) 20:34, 10 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks again.

Unanitz[edit]

Do you know where "Unanitz" is? I assumed it was in Estonia and was another name for Alatskivi castle, since that is where the Cronmans lived. See: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Johan_Cronman_(1662-1737)_in_Karl_XII%27s_officerare_biografiska_anteckningar.png Any references on the Internet probably come from a sentence added to Wikipedia years ago, so we need a book. someone is challenging the fact and asking for a reference. --RAN (talk) 19:23, 16 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It looks like I got it from here: https://books.google.com/books?id=3VdiAAAAcAAJ&pg=PA159&dq=%22Unanitz%22&hl=en&newbks=1&newbks_redir=0&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj-1-PxzZ30AhWNlWoFHc8FB-YQ6AF6BAgFEAI#v=onepage&q=%22Unanitz%22&f=false "Han war född på Alatzliwi 1662 ( Stjerman i fin Matr . fåger på Unanitz i Ins germanland ) , och dog i Malmø 1737. Rortan bar 3 bånkrader och en liten dålig orgel mes 2 stammor . De Jyske Handels Expediter hafwa på egen koftnad åt sig ..." do you interpret it the same way, it is hard to read because of the blackletter typeface. --RAN (talk) 19:31, 16 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Funnily enough it looks like the author of that passage disagrees with Stjernman about where Cronman was born.
"Han war född på Alatzkiwi (Stjernmnan i sin matr. säger på Unanitz i Ingermanland), och dog i Malmö" - "He was born on Alatzkiwi (Stjernman says in his matricula Unanitz in Ingermanland), and died in Malmö" - the author here states Cronman was born in Alatskivi castle but that Stjernman states Unanzi in Ingria. So this google source is referring to the other source which apparently was written by Stjernman. The google source says Alatskivi, i.e. Swedish Estonia while the other source says it was in Swedish Ingria. -- Sturban (talk) 20:55, 16 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@RAN Johan Cronman was born "on Unanitz" in Swedish Ingria. Alatskivi is located in what would have been counted as Swedish Estonia, so that was most probably not the birthplace. It was probably some kind of castle, manor or mansion however since it says he was born 'on' Unanzi and my guess would be that it was closer to Nyenschantz or Nöteborg. -I can not find any good maps of Swedish Ingria online unfortunately. -- Sturban (talk) 20:47, 16 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Thanks, I will keep looking too! --RAN (talk) 21:35, 16 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Anders Ant. von Stiernman: Matrikel öfwer Swea rikes ridderskap och adel... Johan Cronman is on page 180, search for Unanitz. -Both Alatskivi and Unanitz are mentioned, which would indicate that they are two different entities. -- Sturban (talk) 21:46, 16 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]
