Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Hi, ich habe o.g. Kategorie für Bilder unseres gemeinsamen Ausfluges angelegt. Wenn Du magst und die Deinen hochlädst, kannst Du sie ja (auch) da rein stecken. Bild zur Komjmunalwahl ist falsch ? Beispiel 11.svg

Ich glaube in der Liste ein im Beispiel 11.svg hat sich ein Fehler eingeschlichen.... die ersten beiden Wahlvorschläge sind nicht korrekt ausgezählt

die grüne ZAhl der Auszählung ist jeweils falsch...

oder irre ich da ?

de:Kommunalwahlrecht_(Hessen)#Zu_viele_Bewerberstimmen_für_einen_Kandidaten_(beim_Kumulieren) zeigt wie's geht. In der Tabelle hat sich wohl etwas verschoben und Bewerber 102 sollte zwei Stimmen, Bewerber 101 eine Stimme erhalten. In der Summe stimmt es dann ja wieder. Muss ich demnächst mal nachbessern. German coat of arms of towns and cities are licenced under public domain with this template: {{PD-Coa-Germany}} --> Template:PD-Coa-Germany/en. cu --ST ○ 19:13, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
Yes, I understand that, but I think that the work You put into the image should be licensed too. The above mentioned DerivativeFX won't accept {{PD-Coa-Germany}} as a valid licens.--Edaen (talk) 19:39, 27 April 2011 (UTC)
Only creative work can be licensed. To redraw a existing image 1:1 from pixel (.png/.jpg/...) to vector (.svg) is not creative. I don't know DerivativeFX. I think, you could upload it with an accepted license and change the license afterwords. --ST ○ 20:42, 27 April 2011 (UTC)

Wappen Twistetal

Hallo Herr Steschke,

das Wappen von Twistetal hat einen Fehler. Das Innenschild ist nicht blau, sondern schwarz. Wir haben dazu extra in den Unterlagen nachgesehen, ein Auszug aus dem Staatsarchiv Marburg liegt uns vor. Wäre schön, wenn das korrigiert werden könnte (sind nur 2 Zeichen im Quelltext für die Farbbeschreibung). Mit freundlichen Grüßen V. Bangert (Gemeindebrandinspektor Twistetal)
