Donald Trump Portraits[edit]

I am not sure why the trump photos I uploaded are a copyright violation because they are under Creative Commons on Flickr with a direct link. Dyl1G (talk) 04:58, 18 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Revent and me offered support on IRC to explain that. So the issue is solved. --Dereckson (talk) 05:52, 18 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
File:Lin-Manuel Miranda 2015.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

You have made several comments in recent days which focus solely on Colin (today alone, these are [1], [2], [3]). These comments are far from helpful, though you do make some good comments which are wasted/ruined by focusing so specifically on Colin (or Jee), and any impact they could present is lost.
The claim (which I agree with) is that by making comments and by personalising them, focusing on one or two users, when many people may be as guilty as those you focus in on, comments such as yours today become toxic and deter other users from becoming involved. I've been told that few users will now want to speak to you in discussions because they thing you have something of an obsession with Colin, whilst others are disinterested in adding an opinion as they worry they could be singled out for future posts that you make.
I probably should be insisting you avoid Colin and any future discussions about Colin completely, but I won't - yet. I would certainly advise you think, to start with, whether adding anything at all to a discussion where Colin is also present is going to add any value to that discussion, whether it's going to add nothing, or whether it's going to make a situation worse. If you do contribute, don't focus on Colin but on the issue or problem at hand. Allegations of wrong doing need to be backed up by ample evidence too, you can't just turn up to a thread, accuse Colin or Jee or any other editor of doing something, and then run off.
Finally, as is being widely discussed at the moment, we're witnessing a number of people saying that our noticeboards are toxic, negative, disparaging and off-putting.
We don't want that, Commons is (or was) a mellow, laid back and relaxed community which should be mainly mutual back-slapping about good photographs and videos people have contributed, good work that they have achieved, and good deeds that they have done. Do think, before posting, whether you're helping or hindering us return to that atmosphere on Commons, because that's got to be a big goal for 2017. Nick (talk) 18:23, 8 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • The fact is that Commons is Toxic and its because of 3 or 4 editors who make it Toxic for the rest of us and its quite irritating when the same old same old make comments trying to bring down those that are useful to the project. After Denniss was de-sysopped, I figured someone had to step up to get rid of the filth since its obvious no other admin on this wiki had the ability to do so. I'm tired of liars on this project too especially those that are intentionally creating drama and I did not run off, It was 4am in my country, you know that, I had to go sleep. I personally think getting rid of the Toxic before 2017 may actually help keep the boards clean, How long before the drama band get another editor to the board to get them blocked or worse, de-sysopped or how long before they pester another admin and force them to drop their rights and/or leave? How long should the project suffer before an admin actually 'throws down the gauntlet' because apparently every admin that tries is bullied or forced into the corner, The admins here are weak, sadly. You may not see what these people are doing Nick, But I do, maybe because I actually think like a normal person perhaps? I understand why all the prolific editors on this project refuse to be an admin here, apparently being an admin here is a demotion as you basically have the power to block, but not the ability that comes with it..lol..--Stemoc 00:08, 9 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
  • I don't want this to develop much further, but suffice to say the people you consider toxic have exactly the same outlook on Commons as you, they're trying to improve the community and the project too. We're all arguing over the best way for Commons to improve and in the process, damaging the project. You need to find new and more productive ways of engaging with the "3 or 4 editors" you have a problem with. Nick (talk) 11:26, 9 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Incorrect license[edit]

File:"Hidden Figures" Film Celebration (NHQ201612100018).jpg is quite clearly not PD license at the Flickr source. Secondarywaltz (talk) 00:50, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Secondarywaltz: Flickr source does not matter, do you not see another licence on top of it on the image?, that licence supersedes the flicke one, please do not revert again or you will be reported. In the meantime, read up on the other licence.--Stemoc 00:57, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The license you quote boldly states "unless noted". That is what applies here. Secondarywaltz (talk) 01:01, 18 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks...[edit]

Thanks for the larger pic at File:Sally Q. Yates.jpg! Question... how do you (and a few others) find these larger, higher quality pictures of the government officials? I've been trying to figure this out, as well as asked a few others, but I've never gotten a response. I would like to know for future reference so I can do the same. Thanks, Corkythehornetfan 05:11, 21 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Lol generally overtime, one is made available, its just a matter of finding it and replacing it with the version on commons...The USGov Photographers do take higher versions and its in their databases within the US Government and people with access can get HQ versions instantaneously and when one of those sites with access uses a HQ version, we can find it and move it to commons :)--Stemoc 06:15, 21 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! Appreciate the response! I'm too lazy to find one so I guess I'll leave that up to you and others to find the HQ photos! lol Corkythehornetfan 06:37, 21 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Pay attention to licensing
Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content: images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose.

File:Josh Duhamel February 2017.jpg seems to be free (or it would be proposed for deletion), but it was identified as having a wrong license. Usually, it is because a public domain image is tagged with a free license, or because the stated source or other information is not sufficient to prove the selected tag is correct. Please verify that you applied the correct license tag for this file.

If you believe this file has the correct license, please explain why on the file discussion page.

Thanks for uploading File:Josh Duhamel February 2017.jpg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

See the File:Moon Jae-in May 2017 (cropped).jpg. Your name "Stemoc" was written in "Author" and that file is same the first version of File:Moon Jae-in May 2017.jpg. Commons need information about original image, like where this image came from. So I create new image "cropped" and change the File:Moon Jae-in May 2017.jpg. So please don't say "troll" to me (and other users). Thanks. --Idh0854 (talk) 05:29, 12 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

If you want to revert, I suggest to you like this. Thanks. --Idh0854 (talk) 05:34, 12 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I'm sorry but who are you? Are you an admin, no, a licence reviewer? no so please let people who know what they are doing here do their job, I reverted the original image and i will report you to an admin. There is not need for me to upload the full version of an image from flickr and i can choose whichever name i like, if you do not like it, upload your version with a different filename, you are not, and i repeat NOT allowed to overwrite a heavily used image without a valid reason, I refused to use the "cropped" filename cause it breaks in infoboxoes in smaller wikis, you cannot force me to use a filename you desire so stop acting like you own the rights to that image, You do NOT...I found that image, i added it to commons due to multiple copyright violations on previous images used in Moon Jae-In's articles ACROSS wikipedia, you have no rights to make any changes to that image... and for the umpteenth time, if you have a n issue, UPLAOD your own version, DO NOT TOUCH/Manipulate someone elses upload, that is regarded as vandalism.--Stemoc 06:25, 12 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
In commons and all wikimedia project, all people is all equal. So admin or not and reviewer or not is not imfortant. Regarding file name, I mentioned to you earlier that if you don't want to change into the full size image on File:Moon Jae-in May 2017.jpg, I hope to change the file name. Because I think, current file name is inappropriate. Thanks. --Idh0854 (talk) 06:36, 12 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
There is nothing wrong with the filename, the image was created for use in infoboxes. The original (fullsize) on flickr is of no use to commons and would look silly in infoboxes (landscape), You can choose a different filename for YOUR upload and you cannot force a different filename on an image just because you do not like it especially if its a widely used image. The filename explains the identity of the person in the image and when it was taken, its an apt filename, please do not try to change it or for any other images. I feel like you have no idea of commons policies so its best to talk instead of trying to break one of our policies. An admin has reverted you and warned you of your actions, please drop this and move on, we all have better things to do.--Stemoc 06:45, 12 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
