Proposed move

[edit]

Your proposed move seems a little unusual Category:Weightlifters to Category:Olympic weightlifters. Getting rid of the top level "Weightlifters" is not possible, as there are many who would not necessarily have made it to the Olympics due to selection or injury matters, and supposedly there is even world champions who have been injured and not made Olympics. It would also mean an unreasonable split of weightlifters through every category, and that is neither sustainable, nor is there evidence presented that it is better or solves a problem.  — billinghurst sDrewth 13:06, 3 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. The sports itself is called 'Olympic Weightlifting' thus everyone who participates in 'Olympic weightlifting competitions' is an 'Olympic weightlifter', even if he didn't compete at the Olympics. It's a bit unfortunate in the english language. I want to get rid of 'Weightlifters' because people tend to categorize every strength athlete as an 'Weightlifter', which is not the same as an 'Olympic weightlifter', someone who competes in 'Olympic weightlifting'. Lately there have been a lot of Strongman, Powerlifter or Fitness athletes in the 'Weightlifter' category. I hope that these media files will be categorized more carefully if the 'Weightlifter' category is missing. Thanks Stats (talk) 13:17, 3 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The same counts for 'Weightlifting' which I would like to delete, too. I think 'Weight training' might be the better category since this doesn't mislead into confusing 'Weight training' and the sport 'Olympic weightlifting'. Stats (talk) 13:21, 3 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
