Hello, I am, as you are, an important supplier of pictures of north-western cities and villages in Eure ... look at my gallery. Best regards Gérard Janot (talk) 12:31, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

You have a very nice gallery and you make better photos than I do. :) --Stanzilla (talk) 12:35, 19 June 2009 (UTC)

"Hotel"

I notice you put File:Hôtel de la gabelle Bernay.jpg in Category:Demolished or former hotels. If that is at all appropriate, then doubtless it should be moved down to Category:former hotels (clearly not demolished) but I think this is an "hôtel" only in the French sense (often translating to English as "house" or "building"), not in the more specific English-language sense of "hotel". - Jmabel ! talk 05:35, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

Okay I removed it completely, afaik the tax collectors stayed there when they came to town. So not a hotel for the public. But that part was a bit unclear for me (it could have been like a hotel de ville, an office for the taxe collectors), and I don't mind if the cat gets removed. Thanks for asking politely. :) Usually wikimedians put more strange cats on photos instead of removing redundant ones. :P --Stanzilla (talk) 10:35, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

Dear Commons user,

We noticed you adopted {{Mérimée}}. Thanks for your work in the field of Monuments Historiques français !

In case you did not know about it, we invite you to take a look at the Projet Monuments Historiques français.

We hope to see you soon ! — Jean-Fred (talk) 12:56, 29 December 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the invitation but I doubt I will have the time to work continuously on a wikimedia project. :( --Stanzilla (talk) 13:14, 31 December 2009 (UTC)

File:Armoiries d'Oriocourt 1.svg

Sorry, I'm no longer active here so didn't see your question before now. I've now looked at my main source (Loutsch) and don't see any mention of a date. Loutsch doesn't specify either whether these are the lords of Oriocourt or maybe a family of that name, so maybe mention of the lords could be an error of mine (based on google searches trying to identify the name and arms). I know one of the searches Loutsch used was Rietstap, maybe you could look there for more info.Caranorn (talk) 17:33, 14 April 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for your answer. I'll follow your advice. :)--Stanzilla (talk) 21:33, 19 April 2010 (UTC)

IRC-Fragen

Category discussion warning

Churches in the canton of Beuzeville has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

France and FOP

Hello, Stanzilla! I would like to inform you of the following things:

  • 1. The Wikimedia Commons "photo request" lists are not just for Wikimedia Commons, but for all Wikimedia projects, so "fair use" image requests are okay there
    • Commons:Picture requests says "This page is a forum for requesting images from other Commons users for pages in Wikimedia projects, including Wikipedia articles."
  • 2. Many Wikimedia projects do allow fair use. For instance, the French Wikipedia allows fair use of building photos. The English Wikipedia allows fair use of building photos too.
  • 3. Under United States law, fair use is perfectly legal
  • 4. Also, French buildings less than 70 years, but do not have a treshold of originality, may be posted on the Commons
  • 5. I have found that when posting an individual office suite in a building is allowed in Commons, even if posting an overall shot of the building itself would not - i.e. the subject of File:AirFranceVacCenter.JPG is the office suite within the building (AF Vaccination Centre), and not the building itself.

However, if you want, I could add a disclaimer at the head of the France list explaining the FOP situation and adding that some images may need to be locally uploaded, instead of being uploaded on the Commons.

WhisperToMe (talk) 20:17, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

Yes, a disclaimer would be a good idea. I bet you would get the photos you request faster if people knew how to make them legally correct or where to upload them. German Wikipedia doesn't allow fair use for example.--Stanzilla (talk) 10:29, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
Now I saw you already wrote about it on the request page. That's great. I think it clears things up. :) --Stanzilla (talk) 10:31, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
Thanks! I added disclaimers to a few other request headings (Italy, Russia, Belgium) on the photo request page WhisperToMe (talk) 13:54, 1 January 2012 (UTC)

France has no FOP

Hi Bloody-libu, sadly France has no Commons:Freedom of panorama#France. I just saw the file Centre commercial de la Chapelle Saint Aubin le 06.10.07.JPG and I bet that building is not over 70 years old. Kind Regards, --Stanzilla (talk) 16:51, 31 December 2011 (UTC)

Hi Stanzilla, De minimis doesn't work for this photo? [3] Does this building reach the threshold of originality ? Feel free to propose the deletion of this photo. Cordially, Bloody-libu (talk) 15:35, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
Hum -shrugs- okay as far as I am concerned, but someone else might put a deletion request on it though. I didn't, But I made a new category for it and that new category will get deleted too, if the photo gets deleted. Check the discussion above. In cases like this it's in my opinion better to keep it in the French Wikipedia.--Stanzilla (talk) 11:13, 2 January 2012 (UTC)

Picture of the Year voting round 1 open

This section was archived on a request by: Stanzilla (talk) 15:41, 2 August 2014 (UTC)

Dear Wikimedians,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2012 Picture of the Year competition is now open. We're interested in your opinion as to which images qualify to be the Picture of the Year for 2012. Voting is open to established Wikimedia users who meet the following criteria:

  1. Users must have an account, at any Wikimedia project, which was registered before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC].
  2. This user account must have more than 75 edits on any single Wikimedia project before Tue, 01 Jan 2013 00:00:00 +0000 [UTC]. Please check your account eligibility at the POTY 2012 Contest Eligibility tool.
  3. Users must vote with an account meeting the above requirements either on Commons or another SUL-related Wikimedia project (for other Wikimedia projects, the account must be attached to the user's Commons account through SUL).

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. From professional animal and plant shots to breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historically relevant images, images portraying the world's best architecture, maps, emblems, diagrams created with the most modern technology, and impressive human portraits, Commons features pictures of all flavors.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topic categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you can vote for as many images as you like. The first round category winners and the top ten overall will then make it to the final. In the final round, when a limited number of images are left, you must decide on the one image that you want to become the Picture of the Year.

To see the candidate images just go to the POTY 2012 page on Wikimedia Commons

Wikimedia Commons celebrates our featured images of 2012 with this contest. Your votes decide the Picture of the Year, so remember to vote in the first round by January 30, 2013.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee
