Misidentified ferns[edit]

Hi Erwin. Thank you for getting some misidentified ferns straightened out.

I'm not very active with Wikimedia Commons, but I came here after I happened to notice a link being changed on the English Wikipedia as a result of your correcting some misidentified "Rumohra adiantiformis" pictures. You might want to consider doing some further work after correcting the ID and the name of the file. Categories are likely to need changing, and the file description should be updated with the new ID (I'm not sure what best practice is on Commons, but I'd be inclined to note the original misidentification for the sake of file history as well as the correct ID). Finally, check the file usage on other Wikis and remove it or replace it with an appropriate image for the article in question. I found that Wikidata's Rumohra adiantiformis entry had a link to one of these Dryopteris erythrosora pictures. Google pulls images for search results from Wikidata; by replacing the picture on Wikidata with one that actually depicted R. adiantiformis, Google immediately started displaying a picture of the correct species when Rumohra adiantiformis is entered.

While I'm currently doing so additional cleanup resulting from your IDs, if you continue getting IDs corrected, be aware it's unlikely that other editors will notice and make the needed changes (to category, description and file usage) in a timely manner. Please consider taking care of this yourself. However, it's not required if you choose not to do so, and I don't want to discourage you from correcting more misidentifications by making extra work for you. Thank you for your contributions. Hello Plantdrew!

Thanks a lot for your helpful advices and for caring about some useful changes following my ID corrections and renamings !! I am aware this needs some time and i may not expect this to be done anyone else instead of me, yet i am not much experienced in editing articles and doing changes, will take time to learn step by step. You are right i caused several changes, but files stayed linked to articles concerning the former false IDs, so there is some need for further adaptions. Please be patient with me, will try to care about as soon as possible.

Thanks again for all your efforts, Plantdrew, and yes, i attend to correct further wrong IDs at wikimedia images! Guess i'd better add an email address of mine at user page for personal messages.

Best regards Erwin

I'm glad to hear you intend to work further on correcting IDs. There is certainly a learning curve to figuring out all the things that might need to be fixed following a file renaming. I think the category on Wikimedia Commons is the sigle most important fix to do. You obviously noticed that I recategorized one file from Category:Dryopteris filix-mas to Category:Unidentified Polypodiales, since you thanked me for my edit (and thank you for that thank you). Fixing the categorization here on Wikimedia Commons ensures that people working on other wikis who are looking for an illustration of D. filix-mas won't inadvertently select the misidentified photo. Identification of Lucanus[edit]

Well, first of all, thank you very much for your interest to identify the species of this beetle. Btw, the location is southern Campania, in Italy. You can request a {{Rename}}, and I can move the files. Regards. --Dэя-Бøяg 18:37, 21 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, am back, yesterday I was really busy :-) Danke sehr for your efforts to identify the beetle. Btw, somebody still moved the files. Uhm, to answer: I don't know Boris Büche and, about that oak, I could remember where it is, and... I could investigate in the future about the species, when I'll come back again over there. Bis zum nächsten Mal, tschüßi. --Dэя-Бøяg 18:56, 24 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
