There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

I'm trying to figure out which license to use -- I got permission from Caronlina Kroon for this photo and I got permission from Joanna Clapps Herman to use this photo from her family's wedding. What should I type into their articles?

Please help, I want to do this right! Srdemuro (talk) 21:11, 27 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Srdemuro, per your description this image was shot by "Louisa Calio", right? --Túrelio (talk) 12:29, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't mean to write that, the image is OF Louisa Calio, but I found it on the internet somewhere. I'm pretty sure it's free use, it's been everywhere whenever I google her. Can you help me write up the correct licensing? Srdemuro (talk) 12:36, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, but you really need to find the original source and the name of the photographer. Only then we can check whether it's free. Being available on the internet has no meaning for copyright. --Túrelio (talk) 12:57, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I will contact the author and find out the photographer's name. If I get the photographer's name, then I can contact them and they will provide me with permissions? Srdemuro (talk) 13:02, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is what she said: This photo was taken by deceased Harlem photographer and City Spirit Artist Board Member: Sylvin Nisbet, during a live performance and given to me and it has become my signature image. What should I do now? Srdemuro (talk) 16:01, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

O.k., but a complicated situation. Sylvin Nisbet is the photographer and she (now her heir) holds the copyright, except when it was a "work for hire", which is possible in the US and which may result in a transfer of the copyright to the person/institution who hired the photographer. In order to avoid consulting with a lawyer, I would say, you ask Mrs. Calio whether she is able and willing to release this image under free license. Free license means that anybody can use this image without asking for an individual permission and for any purpose, except for advertising which would require an expressed permission by her. If she is hesitating, you may propose her to release an image version in somewhat lower resolution than the current image. If she seems to consent to a release under a free license, than you should send her the permission template which you find here. You only need to enter the file name (or full URL). For more details see Commons:OTRS. Good luck. --Túrelio (talk) 18:01, 7 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
