A file that you have uploaded to Wikimedia Commons, File:Flag of the Province of Asti.svg, is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such works would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a map that has been altered from the original. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.

Please edit the file description and add the missing information, or the file may be deleted. If you created the original content yourself, enter this information as the source. If someone else created the content, the source should be the address to the web page where you found it, the name and ISBN of the book you scanned it from, or similar. You should also name the author, provide verifiable information to show that the content is in the public domain or has been published under a free license by its author, and add an appropriate template identifying the public domain or licensing status, if you have not already done so. Please add the required information for this and other files you have uploaded before adding more files. If you need assistance, please ask at the help desk. Thank you!

Harmonizing Flag names

Hello SpinnerLaserzthe2nd,

Please note that I have declined several of your rename requests. When all flags have the same name, and only your name is different, I cannot accept the reason as being harmonizing flag names [1]. Please note that English is not preferred over other languages and that your system is not preferred over other systems. Renaming is not done lightly, even if a new name is slightly better, we do not rename. If a name is wrong, I am fine with renaming (for example not current flag). Please read the guidelines Commons:File renaming before requesting more renames.

Sincerely, Taketa (talk) 01:51, 18 February 2023 (UTC)

Are you going to create a flag category and an emblem category for every single municipality in Japan? (there are hundreds of them)

If you are going to do this, I won't stop you. But there are hundreds of them. Unless you are going to create every single one of them, it makes no sense to just create them for a few but not the others. Either you create all or none. Xeror (talk) 23:21, 25 April 2023 (UTC)

Yes, I can handle hundreds. SpinnerLaserzthe2nd (talk) 23:22, 25 April 2023 (UTC)

Flag mistake

Hello SpinnerLaserzthe2nd, I have made my first Wikipedia account specifically to inform you of a mistake you have made. You have created on May the 2nd 2023 an image of the flag of the Sovereign of Canada (HM King Charles III). The section of the flag that holds the Fleur-de-lis is off center, I have looked at your source posted for the image and my point still stands firm (Your source: https://www.canada.ca/en/canadian-heritage/campaigns/coronation-his-majesty-king-canada/celebrate.html ). Please remake the flag so that it is not incorrect. As I have joined Wikipedia (at time of writing) less then ten minutes ago, I lack the expertise to fix it myself. Thankyou and best regards. Thanks for uploading File:CHE Vevey 1798 COA.svg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

One more thing, you can upload Swiss municipal logos as they are PD. SpinnerLaserzthe2nd (talk) 17:41, 18 May 2023 (UTC)
Are you sure about that? Logos aren't really stated in {{PD-Switzerland-official}}. - Espandero (talk) 17:49, 18 May 2023 (UTC)
These logos were owned by the municipal government. SpinnerLaserzthe2nd (talk) 18:15, 18 May 2023 (UTC)

Flag of L'Abergement.gif

Hi, you really need to be careful when you modify other people's uploads. Changing the source of the file and its author when it was made by someone outside of Commons is really problematic. I hope you haven't done that on too many other files. If so please rectify your edits. You cannot erase the source of a file like that... Espandero (talk) 16:30, 22 May 2023 (UTC)

Is there is a reason for that? SpinnerLaserzthe2nd (talk) 16:47, 22 May 2023 (UTC)
Common sense. If you delete the link where the file comes from there's no way to know where the file was taken from or who made it. And if you change it with a link which has nothing to do with the file then it's even more confusing. I would suggest never changing the source or author of a file unless you see a typo or something that is fundamentally wrong with it.
The last edit you made - adding a link to another source which shows another version of the file without being the source of the file - doesn't make sense. The ligns Author and Source in the description of a file refer to the author and source of the file, not those of the original drawing. Please just don't touch it. - Espandero (talk) 17:07, 22 May 2023 (UTC)

Blason de Sierre, Valais.svg

Hi, I think you made a mistake. You did a Global Replace of File:Blason de Sierre, Valais.svg with File:CHE Sierre Flag.svg. I guess you wanted to do it with the File:CHE Sierre COA.svg. I reverted it on French Wikipedia but you should check the other ones.

By the way I think we'll go with a shield shape like File:Anniviers - Wappen.svg for VS. Best regards, Espandero (talk) 14:56, 27 May 2023 (UTC)

Logoflags of Municipalities of the Netherlands

Hi SpinnerLaserzthe2nd. We share an interest in flags. I see you created or edited the files for many flags of Dutch Municipalities. In the case of some Municipalities that decided to adopt so-called logo flags, I see that you deliberately removed the writing on the flags, often the name of the municipality. I was wondering what the reason behind this is. I firmly agree that writing has no place in good flag design, nor do logos, seals, or maps. However, these municipalities choose to officially adopt bad designs with writing, logo's and often color gradients on them. I was wondering if you removed the writing for a valid reason or in an attempt to make the flags obey the rules of flag design. I personally believe we should show these flags as they are, however terrible they are. It would be good to call them what they are in the articles themselves. They are logo flags and are as such not incorporated in the register of flags held by the dutch "Hoge Raad van Adel" Renatus! (talk) 14:11, 24 May 2023 (UTC)

Hi SpinnerLaserzthe2nd, I will proceed to revert the flags you uploaded somewhere today because I'm convinced your versions are incorrect. For a while I thought that you removed the lettering because of copyrights or some other valid reason, but that would apply to the complete logo, not just the lettering. And since the logos and lettering are on the official flag, removing the lettering is more of a copyright infringement. Showing those logo flags on wikipedia is fair use. Although its still bad practice from a vexillological point of view ;) Renatus! (talk) 06:36, 25 May 2023 (UTC)
Hi SpinnerLaserzthe2nd, I see you already reverted some flags to a version with lettering. Thank you! For a couple of other flags it still needs to be done. And I have a question about the flag of Oude IJsselstreek. Do you have any source that this flag is actually in use? I can only see original sources for the first version of this file. Other files that need to be updated are the flag of Bronckhorst where the lettering needs to be under the logo (Bronckhorst_vlag.svg) and the flag of Vijfheerenlanden (File:Flag of Vijfheerenlanden.svg), where lettering needs to be to the right.
Renatus! (talk) 06:58, 25 May 2023 (UTC)
I proceded to update the flag of Oude IJsselstreek based on the source image you provided and based on other use of the logo. Recently the municipality changed their colors twice it seems. First to a less fuorecent green and later to monochrome logo use. This flag is the last seen in use. It's unsure of the flag has any official status. Renatus! (talk) 10:47, 25 May 2023 (UTC)
