Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Made a mistake?

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

What am I doing wrong here?[edit]

Trying to redirect from "Category:Osteroybrua" and "Category:Osterøybrua" to "Category:Osteroybroen" but not have them as under categories ... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Snurre86 (talk • contribs) 16:16, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Redirects do not work with categories like they do with pages. You can use {{Category redirect}} template in some cases. --Apalsola ^{t • c} 22:15, 17 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please use sub-categories[edit]

When categorising files, please avoid placing them into several categories that are directly linked within the same tree (e.g. a parent category and a child category – like Category:United Kingdom and Category:London), to prevent over-categorization of files and over-population of categories. Usually, only the most specific category should be used. See Commons:Categories for more details. Thank you.

For å rette navn på en fil som er opprettet med feil navn merker du den bare med denne malen, File:Breiviktunnelen - Road signs P1.jpg merker du for eksempel med

Det du mener er at det går akkurat like tregt om jeg merker de selv. Et par dager var litt optimistisk... Ser ut som commons mister en bidragsyter etter at jeg har lastet opp noen bru bilder som var ment for commons, men jeg ennå ikke har fått lastet opp. Dette er for nedverdigende eller i værtfall unødvendig trasig. --Peter Kaino Jensen (talk) 04:47, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not really sure what's causing CA. It is usually the lens unable to focus all colors on the same plane, but other times it's the contrast. CA is very common is wide angle lens and appear at the side-most portions of the image. The only way to prevent CA is to buy new lenses/camera or dedicate some time in image software to reduce it. Usually, it is because a public domain image is tagged with a free license, or because the stated source or other information is not sufficient to prove the selected tag is correct. Please also try to use some temporary Image hosting service (e.g. http://imgur.com/ or http://bayimg.com/ ) instead of Commons (if the images are just used once). Ah, I need to search myself in the history... Well, you know how it works. So you just have problems using upload wizard? The random characters used as description make your upload look very messy, sorry for not knowing that you know how to license correctly. Or just write in the description "i will fix the licensing directly after upload". I strongly recommend then to just use the plain old form. Plain and simple - my favourite. I found your images under the name Helvete etc. were uncategorized so I put them in Category:Helvete I am not sure what country is associated so check the category and correct it if necessary Thanks WayneRay (talk) 02:06, 11 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Bildene var tatt i 2009, 2010 & 2011 de var alltid ment for Commons, men var ikke lastet opp på grunn av synlig støv på linsa, ute av fokus eller andre (feil) på bildene. Etter noen år i en lagringsmappe for bilder med forbedringspotensiale ble de lastet opp i 2016 hvor de etter opplasting ble slettet lokalt på grunn av manglende interesse. Som du vet var ikke dette smertefritt og konstaterte min tilfredshet men å legge hele Wikimedia prosjektene bak meg. Snurre86
