Stop vandalising articles![edit]

Please stop vandalising articles by submitting false copyright claims. iRacing allows the usage of screenshots on Wikipedia (and any other media), but since there are no explicit text in the iRacing code of conduct that says so, the Wikipedia moderators have no option but to delete those images. Providing emails from iRacing that says it's OK to use iRacing screenshots is not valid proof for the moderators of Wikipedia, which means Wikipedia is in a loophole where it is impossible to prove the right of usage.

Feel free to contact iRacing support if you have any questions or concerns about usage of images and video content from iRacing.

Continuing adding false copyright claims is straight out vandalism! PrinsM (talk) 06:54, 12 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there PrinsM, tagging an article as a copyright violation when the file violates copyrights certainly is not vandalism. I didn't file any copyright claim, DMCA filing, or anything of the sort. You uploaded a screenshot of a video game and claimed ownership as yourself. This is not the case and the file was appropriately removed. I simply pointed this out and allowed administrators to take appropriate action.
All that said, video game screenshots are allowed to be uploaded on wikipedia (not Commons), provided that appropriate fair-use rational is provided and appropriate ownership is stated. Take a look at this file from Bayonetta 2 as an example of a file that provides the needed information.
Please review w:WP:NFC as well as w:WP:MOSVG. Let me know if you need any more information. Skipple (talk) 12:48, 12 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

The thing is, it's vandalism when you are adding false copyright claims to images. iRacing know the images are on Wikipedia, as the image you tagged was used on their own page.

Nevertheless, you woke iRacing, and I quote iRacing once they found out: they'll "let the appropriate team at iRacing know".

Hopefully, vandalism like you're doing will not be possible once the Wikipedia team get the notification from iRacing.

PS: I you want to play lawyer, I highly suggest you search for iRacing in different languages. You missed a few pictures. PrinsM (talk) 13:02, 12 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not copyright claiming anything. I don't claim anything about the images. I simply tagged the photos as violation of copyright because you claimed ownership of the photos.
I genuinely am not sure what you are referring to when it comes to the iRacing quote. Did you review the example I provided you along with the other resources? Skipple (talk) 13:06, 12 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Also, PrinsM, I appreciate you calling out the other copyright violating images. Those have been removed as well. Have a good one, Skipple (talk) 01:30, 13 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Wikimedian,

Wikimedia Commons is happy to announce that the 2022 Picture of the Year competition is now open. This year will be the seventeenth edition of the annual Wikimedia Commons photo competition, which recognizes exceptional contributions by users on Wikimedia Commons. Wikimedia users are invited to vote for their favorite images featured on Commons during the last year (2022) to produce a single Picture of the Year.

Hundreds of images that have been rated Featured Pictures by the international Wikimedia Commons community in the past year are all entered in this competition. These images include professional animal and plant shots, breathtaking panoramas and skylines, restorations of historical images, photographs portraying the world's best architecture, impressive human portraits, and so much more.

For your convenience, we have sorted the images into topical categories. Two rounds of voting will be held: In the first round, you may vote for as many images as you like. The top 30 overall and the two most popular images in each category will continue to the final. In the final round, you may vote for just three images to become the Picture of the Year.

Round 1 will end on UTC.

Thanks,
the Wikimedia Commons Picture of the Year committee
