First steps tutorial

Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki - it is really easy.

Getting help

More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons. You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing.

Goodies, tips and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your Graphics abilities.
  • All your uploads are stored in your personal Gallery
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~
  • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)
  • To link to an image page, write this: [[:Image:Foo.jpg]], it makes this: Image:Foo.jpg
  • If you're copying files from another project, be sure to use the CommonsHelper

  • Did you want to rename or move a file? Simply upload the file again and mark the old one like this: {{bad name|Correct name}}

Renaming

Renaming is done by moving from old name to new name.

For pages it is easy: you see the "move" tab on top next to "history". This will move/rename immediately.

For images and otehr media, it is a bit more difficult because it will not be moved immediately. You have to "edit" and add {{rename media|xyz}} on top, and "xyz" is the new name.

Renaming categories is most difficult. See Commons:Rename a category.

Gta san andreas logo.png

Hi Sir Lothar. I noticed that you added {{Copyvio}} to Gta san andreas logo.png. This logo as well as Yamaha logo.svg are too simple to be protected by copyright even it is a trademark. These logos are nothing more than dull letters which moreover are not arranged in a creative way.

Passing by just to say Commons accept any logos who are simple enough consisting of simple letter or typeface or simple shapes. See Threshold of originality and [[Image_casebook Trademarks. That's why we have the Category:Logos, {{PD-text}}, {{PD-textlogo}}, {{PD-shape}} licenses and the {{Trademark}} warning. A similar image was restored because of it. So I'm gonna revert your edition. Nobody has to agree with anybody. But that's not the point. The point is we mustn't be paranoic about copyright and be aware of the copyright exceptions. As you can see now, the file was misjudged for lack of comprehension and was undeleted.

  • osób już wgrywających mniejsze czy większe ilości zdjęć do Wikimedia

Commons - niezależnie od ich jakości

  • fototoamatorów - nie związanych dotąd z projektami Wikimedia
  • zawodowych fotografów - w charakterze doradców i wykładowców

Nie ma znaczenia jaki typ fotografii preferujesz - w Wikimedia Commons jest miejsce zarówno dla portrecistów, dokumentalistów, jak i fotografów pejzażu miejskiego i przyrody. Wikiwarsztaty będą miały charakter kameralny (max. 40-50 osób) i trwały przez weekend 1-3 maja 2010 <sobota-poniedziałek>, Zajęcia będą się odbywały w Łódzkim Domu Kultury oraz w plenerze. Organizatorzy zapewniają w ramach opłaty konferencyjnej (50 zł od osoby) - nocleg( PTSM na ul. Zamenhoffa), wyżywienie (obiady) i bezpłatny dostęp do Internetu w trakcie obrad.

Hello, I got this logo from the site, which I marked as my source. This site claims that every picture uploaded content is available under CC BY-SA 3.0 unless otherwise noted.
