First steps tutorial

Our first steps help file and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki ‒ it is really easy.

Getting help

More information is available at the Community Portal. You may ask questions at the Help desk, Village Pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (direct access). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing.

Goodies, tips and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your Graphics abilities.
  • All your uploads are stored in your personal Gallery
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~
  • Use the CommonSense tool to find good categories for your files (then other people can find them too!)
  • To link to an image page, write this: [[:Image:Foo.jpg]], it makes this: Image:Foo.jpg
  • If you're copying files from another project, be sure to use the CommonsHelper

Taubentalgraben[edit]

Hallo Silvicola,

Hallo Triplec85,
in meinem „Jagdrevier“ (LUBW für DE-BW, BA-KLassik für DE-BY, WW für DE-TP, Geoportal-SL für DE-SL, ELWAS für DE-NW, Austrianmap für AT, CH-GS für CH) habe ich genau die folgenden gefunden: Taubental. Womöglich gibt es anderswo doch noch einen zweiten Taubentalgraben, auch im WP-Bestand allerdings tritt der NAme, da hast Du wohl schon gesucht, nur für den TBH-Bach auf. Aus meiner Lemmatisierung des künftigen Artikels zu diesem siehst Du, dass ich zumindest das Risiko einginge, den ohne Klammer anzusetzen. Und wenn halt irgendwann doch noch unerwartet ein alter Schwede aus Mecklenburg oder so auftauchen würde, dann wäre eben nachträglich doch noch mit Klammerzusatz zudisambiguieren und der Bestand zu verschieben. Ich rate entschieden von so einer „Scheidung nach Kaliber“ ab. Auf de-wp gab es schon öfter Diskussionen zum Thema mit dem Ergebnis, dass das nur zu endlosen Streitereien in Einzelfällen führt: „Ist das noch ein Bach?“/„Ist das schon ein Fluss?“ Wenn es nur einen Bach sagen wir mal Tüttelbach und einen Ort Tüttelbach gibt und ein neu hinzukommender Tüttelbacher Mitarbeiter Artikel über Gegenstände innerhalb der Sichtweite seines Kirchturms erstellt, dann nimmt dieser als Gewässerlemma zuweilen Tüttelbach (Bach). Das wird aber binnen kürzester Zeit zu Tüttelbach (Fluss) oder Tüttelbach (Etwaswenigertütteligerbach) (mit der Vorfluter in der Klammer) geändert, gemäß dem Motto: Ja nicht dieses Fass wieder aufmachen!
Übrigens ist die Abgrenzung Fluss/Bach auch fachwissenschaftlich unklar.
Nun zu Commons. Dort gibt es mehr unsystematischen Wildwuchs als auf de-wp, und anscheinend besonders bei den Kategorien. Auch infolge der gewollten Internationalität und des damit zusammenhängenden Zwangs zum Englischen. Kannst Du die Bedeutungen naher Begriffe im Englischen differenzieren? Ich schaffe das eher nicht, weil mir die unzähligen Wortkonnotationen fehlen.
Schaue Dir Category:Rivers of Baden-Württemberg an, da gibt es auch recht kleine Gewässer, sicher mehr längere, aber das rührt wohl eher daher, das die Wiki-Mitarbeiter gewöhnlich „von groß nach klein“ Artikel erstellen und fotografieren und die kleinen deshalb oft noch keinen Artikel und keine Aufnahme haben.
Im Commons-Kategoriensystem kenne ich mich nicht recht aus und ich weiß auch nicht, wo man dessen Prinzipien und etablierten Konventionen auch nur im Gewässerbereich finden könnte; vielleicht gibt es gar keine.
Was auch immer Du tust – bitte jedenfalls keine Trennung in „kleine Bäche“ und „große Flüsse“ durch eine stets kriegerische Grenze. --Silvicola (talk) 19:21, 17 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Ok. Es ist wie du sagst, in Commons wird anhand der englischen Bezeichnungen das Kategoriesystem weltweit angewendet. Das passt meistens, aber nicht immer perfekt für jede Sprache. Gruß Triplec85 (talk) 00:27, 19 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]
