Carbide Saws

Hello, My name is Willy Goellner and I’m the inventor of the carbide billet saw and developer of many other carbide saws. I am now semi-retired and get frequent calls from people who want information on carbide saws, which is why I wrote the history in Wikipedia to make it for everyone available. I used the pictures, which are my property, to show the different saws. Is there any reason, why they cannot be published?

Best regards, Willy Goellner

Hi Willy. This is Wikimedia Commons, not Wikipedia. See Commons:Licensing for possible reasons why a file you uploaded my have been removed. Possible warnings may have been posted on your user talk page. Siebrand 18:07, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

Commons Delinker error. Unclear where to report this.

File:A naked female in front of clothed males.jpg was deleted per Commons:Deletion requests/File:A naked female in front of clothed males.jpg, but it was not removed from the English Wikipedia article w:Clothed make, naked female [1].

I originally posted this at Commons:Adminstrators' noticeboard#Commons Delinker error, where I was direct by the both's en.wikipedia user page. From there I was directed to it's user page here, from there to its page on Meta and thence to here. Please could you make it clearer where such messages are to go (I apologise if I still haven't found the right location). Thryduulf (talk) 17:39, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

The bot is less than perfect, and the answer to deletions is "just fix it manually". Both bot operators that undertake tasks are no longer actively upgrading their code, so at the moment, that is the best answer. I will look to see if we can capture some of that in the appropriate guidance pages.  — billinghurst sDrewth 23:11, 7 May 2013 (UTC)

STOP!

'Demolished' really doesn't have the same meaning as 'destroyed'. Please stop making this change using User:SieBot. Mike Peel (talk) 22:22, 1 May 2013 (UTC)

This reminds me: SieBot is often involved in some of these no-time-for-public-discussion category deletions some active users are fond of, in which they claim a category is "empty and unused" less than an hour after it had large numbers of files in it. The demolished/destroyed thing reminded me of it. I know that one can go search two page histories at once and track it down, but it would be nice if SieBot would put the name of who caused an emptying/deletion/category move in the edit summary, so we know who has forgotten the difference between "No controversial name changes" and "I don't see any complaints on my own talk page when it's harder to find me". --Closeapple (talk) 02:37, 2 May 2013 (UTC)

Please read the page header. There is nothing I can personally do for you. Siebrand 18:05, 7 May 2013 (UTC)
Siebrand, there is some value in the suggestion that for a category move/rename that the admin who ordered a specific rename is annotated in the edit summary that the bot undertakes. I think that this would keep some of the noisy people knocking on your door about SieBot if there was a wikilink to the admin.  — billinghurst sDrewth 00:12, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
I am not capable to make changes to the code to fulfil that feature request. Siebrand 11:06, 8 May 2013 (UTC)
I'm just noting that my bot, which recently started this task, adds the reason parameter to the edit summary.  Hazard-SJ  ✈  01:53, 18 June 2013 (UTC)

CommonsDelinker suggestion

Hello,
I often clean up after Commons Delinker after it does edits like this one here, which left an empty paragraph in the article that needs to be cleaned up. Would it be possible to add logic where the bot checks if the [[File]] tag is the only text on the line (ignoring whitespace), and if so removes the whole line where the [[File]] tag appears -- plus the preciding empty line (ignoring whitspace) in case the removed line was preceded and followed by an empty line (ignoring whitspace)? Such logic would eliminate the need for cleanup :) --hydrox (talk) 17:46, 19 May 2013 (UTC)

That part of CommonsDelinker is operated by Bryan (talk · contribs), so that suggestion would be better there. Siebrand operates SieBot which is the category mover/relocator.  — billinghurst sDrewth 12:15, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

CommonsDelinker should restore previous images when applicable

This suggestion is a follow up to the discussion at Commons talk:Deletion policy#Undoing changes made by uploaders of deleted images

Recently, User:Bava Alcide57 uploaded File:Metz infobox collage.jpg, which was later found to be a breach of French non-FoP copyright law and was therefore removed per Commons:Deletion requests/Files of Bava Alcide57. However, in the meantime, the uploader has forced his image into infoboxes on some 10+ Wikipedias (e.g. cs:Mety), which, consequently, all lost any previous infobox imagery alltogether after CommonsDelinker had removed the new image. Many of the affecte projects are smaller Wikipedias, where nobody would care any soon about restoring the original image in place. Fixing the result of such a delinked cross-wiki spam has taken me a good hour of work.

It would be very helpful, if CommonsDelinker could look at the article's last edit diff (such as [5]) to check whether that is the one that has introduced the name of the image being-removed, and if so, take note of the name of the picture that was in that place before. Before using that name, the bot could verify whether that name really points to a valid image, so as to prevent mistaking some article text for an image. This could effectively help the bot to fix the cross-wiki spam in contrast to what it does now (merely removing the reference to the removed image, but leaving the article without any image, although possibly with a caption that still refers to the original image...). Marek BLAHUŠ (talk) 14:46, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

Very helpful, indeed. Can you please implement it? Thanks! --Siebrand 05:57, 11 October 2013 (UTC)

superieure abeeldingen.

Vriendelijke groeten, --Henk Boelens (talk) 07:11, 14 October 2013 (UTC)

CommonsDelinker

Hi! It would be very nice, especially for pages that are not followed by many editors, to have file links replaced by a comment (like "<!-- File:... has been deleted on Commons -->", possibly internationalisable by sub-page) instead of being simply removed. — François [Discussion] 08:28, 31 October 2013 (UTC)

Delinking of immage massimo-giordano-001.jpg

Good day, I saw that image Massimo-giordano-001.jpg was "delinked" for copiright infrangment, from what I understand. I'm the web developer for the owner of the immage and I have the legal right (that the owner of the immage gave it to me) to use it. How can I put the immage back online and don't get deleted again?

It there any "undo" option?

Can the "delinking" be undone somehow? I mean, if a file was undeleted, is it possible to restore all the removed links in a more or less automatic manner? For example, File:Jacobstaff.JPG apparently was not deleted (or was undeleted quickly?), but references to it in various wikis were lost (the talk page has a list of them resurrected from Google cache)... — Mikhail Ryazanov (talk) 01:15, 16 January 2014 (UTC)

Your bot's admin status (Siebot)

Hello. I'm a steward. A new policy regarding the removal of "advanced rights" (administrator, bureaucrat, etc.) was adopted by community consensus recently. According to this policy, the stewards are reviewing administrators' activity on wikis with no inactivity policy.

You meet the inactivity criteria (no edits and no log actions for 2 years) on yiwiktionary, where you are an administrator. Since yiwiktionary does not have its own administrators' rights review process, the global one applies.

If you want to keep your rights, you should inform the community of the wiki about the fact that the stewards have sent you this information about your inactivity. If the community has a discussion about it and then wants you to keep your rights, please contact the stewards at m:Stewards' noticeboard, and link to the discussion of the local community, where they express their wish to continue to maintain the rights, and demonstrate a continued requirement to maintain these rights.

We stewards will evaluate the responses. If there is no response at all after approximately one month, we will proceed to remove your administrative rights. In cases of doubt, we will evaluate the responses and will refer a decision back to the local community for their comment and review. If you have any questions, please contact us on m:Stewards' noticeboard.

Artem Bessonov 1980

User:SiebrandHello! Why Your bot User:CommonsDelinker deletes my files? --Artem Bessonov 1980 (talk) 12:57, 26 March 2014 (UTC)

File:100%.svg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Regards, FASTILY 07:36, 20 April 2014 (UTC)

Thank you for your contribution to 38th ADA Brigade.

Your bot on English Wikipedia

A proposal to de-authorize a group of idle interwiki bots on the English Wikipedia is currently in process. A bot account of yours has been included in the list. If you are no longer using this bot, no action is neccessary by you. Should you wish to revive your bot in the near future, please remove your bot from the list here: en:Wikipedia:Bot_owners'_noticeboard#Bot_that_are_inactive_for_the_last_2-4_years_and_may_lose_bot_flag. Thank you for your contributions. For the en: Bot Approvals Group, en:user:Xaosflux 12:05, 28 June 2014 (UTC)

Category discussion warning

Historical information signs has been listed at Commons:Categories for discussion so that the community can discuss ways in which it should be changed. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this category, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for discussion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it. If the category is up for deletion because it has been superseded, consider the notion that although the category may be deleted, your hard work (which we all greatly appreciate) lives on in the new category.

In all cases, please do not take the category discussion personally. It is never intended as such. Thank you!

Replacement instead of deletion

Hi. Thank you very much for operating wikt:fr:Utilisateur:CommonsDelinker. I have talked with other French-speaking Wiktionarians about the deletions by CommonsDelinker (→ wikt:fr:Wiktionnaire:Wikidémie/juillet 2014#Utilisateur:CommonsDelinker). Currently it deletes an image tag as a whole, even though there may be a useful explanation. I am wondering if you could replace the deleted image file name in the tag by File:Image manquante.jpg instead of deleting the tag ([6] instead of [7]). — TAKASUGI Shinji (talk) 14:21, 15 July 2014 (UTC)

CommonsDelinker Wikinews-fr

Could you ask for the bot flag on the French Wikinews to avoid to flood the page of the recent changes ? Thank you. --SleaY (talk) 23:32, 16 July 2014 (UTC)

No. If you (as a community) think it should be a bot, please make it a bot. The maintainers of CommonsDelinker will not request a bot flag. Siebrand 01:31, 16 November 2014 (UTC)

Gallery

Hello, could you find a way to delete also the files in the galleries? E.g. here you didn't passed to delete the gallery's files (but Filedelinkerbot did it on en.wiki). --Horcrux92 (talk) 09:52, 14 September 2014 (UTC) I'm no longer a maintainer. Patches adding improvements are appreciated and will be reviewed if you can provide them. Cheers! Siebrand 01:30, 16 November 2014 (UTC)

CommonsDelinker (feature request)

Hi,

  1. I've noticed that after CommonsDelinker removes a deleted image from an article sometimes the formatting of the text changes to a preformatted text.[8] This is because there has been a space between the image and the text that was directly following it. I thought maybe you could change the regex in a way that it removes any such whitespace when removing images.
  2. Also it would be nice if the bot could remove empty remained (gallery) tags after removing all images in them.[9][10]

Thanks. Dalba 01:56, 24 October 2014 (UTC)

Talk page take 3

Siebrand, you are the maintainer for Commons Delinker, right? You messages for communicating with editors are sorely lacking and are not helpful to the users who encounter your bot's edits, especially since there are so many new editors. I first replaced your talk page redirect on en-wiki with a post about how it leaves me unsure of where to go. Then, I went to the Commons Delinker talk page and didn't get a response. Apparently, maybe this is where I should go? If so, you need to look at those other two talk pages because there are issues you need to address placed by experience editors who failed to understand your messages. Oiyarbepsy (talk) 23:36, 1 November 2014 (UTC)

I'm no longer maintaining CommonsDelinker. Maybe it should be stopped altogether? Siebrand 01:28, 16 November 2014 (UTC)

Cancellazione immagine LAI promo genn 1954

CommonsDelinker: Proposal of deletion with replacement

(Sorry, copy from User_talk:CommonsDelinker#Proposal_of_deletion_with_replacement) Hi, I know this bot for many years and I think that his job is fantastic. But I think that there is a problem: when the bot remove the file from an article it don't restores the previous file that the article had. In wikis with a small number of contributors that is a problem because we are loosing lots of images! I wanted to propose that the place to delete a file include an optional parameter to add the name of a image to substitute the deleted file to another similar, when possible. Sorry if it's yet implemented, I don't know all the features of the bot. Bye, --Elisardojm (talk) 02:19, 1 December 2014 (UTC)

Machine-readable markup for languages/language names in Commons i18n templates

Hi Siebrand! I am trying to come up with a machine-readable standard for i18n in Commons templates such as {{En}} or {{LangSwitch}} so that CommonsMetadata can parse them correctly (right now it returns something like English: <english text> in some cases). I would appreciate your input at Commons talk:Machine-readable data#Machine-readable markup for languages/language names. --Tgr (WMF) (talk) 00:26, 18 December 2014 (UTC)

File:War Flag of the Philippines.svg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not.

Thank you!

Hi, the community of fr.wikinews doesn't support this bot task. Please send a request here to obtain de flag.

Thank you. --SleaY (talk) 23:15, 9 January 2015 (UTC)

I'm sorry, I forgot my first message, but de flag was removed by a bureaucrat. --SleaY (talk) 23:26, 9 January 2015 (UTC)
FYI, the bot seems to have stopped working. At least we don't get any updated logs since 15 January. Please see the notice at the Commons admininistrators noticeboard. De728631 (talk) 17:11, 17 January 2015 (UTC)

Utente:CommonsDelinker in it.wiki

Hi! There is some problem in the activity of it:Utente:CommonsDelinker: in this example you must not delete the "=" sign. (For answer, please use my Italian talk) Thanks! --BohemianRhapsody (talk) 08:59, 27 January 2015 (UTC)
