First steps tutorial

Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
  • You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
  • You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
  • There are several tools to upload files.
  • Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.
Made a mistake?
  • Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.

Dear Senator, writing my biography at the age 94 years, in polish, I have placed some graphics in Wikimedia Commons and describing them also in polish, I have never expected that somebody would like to utilize them unless it would be someone spiking the same language, because they have no values for other natives. I am sorry for such a mistake and errors. I would like to explain what kind of files you have questioned and pointed out: - the first file is: ”PREZENTACJA KW W OPK GAUDEMATER” - I should name it in English as follows: PRESENTATION OF “MEMORY CARDS” IN CULTURE PROMOTION CENTER “GAUDEMATER”, while the ”GAUDEMATER” is the name of the center. It is the presentation of the book I wrote. So I am the author either of the book and the recording . The whole presentation was photographed and recorded by me as well on CD in Power Point, along with the cover designed. --Seweryn L. -The third File is: “BITWA O WAŁ POMORSKI” - It is the one which should remain. In English it should be named: BATLE OF POMERIAN FORTIFICATION - in which I participated during II World War, and this graphics I found in the internet on the page of Polish Ministry of Defense. - The fourth File is: “PREZENTACJA WYROBÓW PWA PoliArt” - should be named in English as follows: “PRESENTATION OF PWA PoliArt PRODUKTS" which is also my personal achievement, as I have created from the ground the pewter studio, improving the pewter craft and workshop technics, and it is the only pewter enterprise which exists yet in Poland. Dear Senator 2029, This picture comes from my family archives and has historical value of the document that proves that I was in 4th Anti-Tank Artillery Regiment, soldgiers of wchich are on this picture and it was made in September 1943 in the Sielce Camp on the Oka River in USSR in which the regiment was formed. I am also on this picture as the first on the right. So you may agre please not to remove this picture.--Seweryn L. Lewandowski (talk) 11:28, 7 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Senator 2029, I am the author of this photo and it is the picture of my wife who played wery important role in my life. In addition I owe her a lot of great moments we shared and I can not imagine that it does not honor in my biography. Therefore, allow me pleaseto to post it there.
