Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~. To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg. You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account. There are several tools to upload files. Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful. Made a mistake? Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it. Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

Acorn Cup Galls

Hello Semudobia, I take it that you know that I wrote the articles on Acorn Cup galls and on the Knopper galls. I first came across Knopper Galls in Devon around 45 years ago. I have seen thousands of them and joined the Cecidology Society - writing articles on Knoppers. Upon first moving to Scotland the galls were absent - however I came across them in Ayrshire in the 1990s. The ones I identified as A.grossulariae are quite different from any Knoppers that I have ever seen before. I doubt they are A.lucidus - although your photo might be. The colour transition, level of stickiness, etc do not correspond with any Knoppers that I have seen over the years.

Cecidologists are a rare breed - what are your qualifications? I will return to the sites and see if they are still present. Further research will clarify the identity. The FSC guide does not agree with your identification - do you agree?

Yes I presumed you wrote the article, and a good one it is too, whereas many on oak galls need much more work. It was because I wanted to link to it in a blog that I noticed the images didnt look quite right for the gall.

I am also a member of BPGS, and asked for confirmation on my identifications of your picture on the BPGS list. Two academic specialists in Oak Galls, Karsten Schoenrogge and Graham Stone agreed with me. The photo I used to replace yours in the article was taken by the curator of a botanical garden in Brussels, but I agree that this could be A. lucidus on closer inspection.

My own photos of A. grossulariae can be found on [1] (I will add some of these to the Commons when time permits). From memory galls were found in Leicestershire (Maggie Frankum) around 2008, and I found first in Notts in autumn 2008, followed by masses of the sexual galls in spring 2009. If you know of Turkey Oak locations then finding the sexual galls in spring would be positive confirmation that the range has expanded to Scotland.
