User talk:Scaler
Our first steps tour and our FAQ will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy. You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold contributing here and assume good faith for the intentions of others. This is a wiki—it is really easy. More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel irc:wikimedia-commons #wikimedia-commons (direct access). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at Commons talk:Licensing. |

Screenshot copyright
[edit]I notice you have licensed File:DeCSS.svg under GFDL and CC-BY-SA. I think that is problematic. If you really want to do that you should explain why you are the only owner of the copyright.
The screenshot is of a program that has a copyright in itself. The last version claims GPL (I have not checked). The screenshot seems to have been released under GFDL, but it is not clear to me whether the template was added by the original uploader or the one who uploaded it to Commons. One user claimed "the Wikipedia licence", which probably was GFDL at the time. I hope one can interpret that as "whatever is standard for Wikipedia", which should be GPL, as other licences might infringe the original copyright (the original uploader claims the code is ineligible, but I think that is unwise).
Thus I think you should also use GPL, and possibly note that you yourself accept also GFDL and CC-BY-SA (but without templates).

- Hm. In fact, if GFDL is correct, then the licensing seems ok, but I am worried about the original copyright. --LPfi (talk) 08:41, 18 November 2011 (UTC)
