Hello, SaveRivers!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Thanks, WhisperToMe (talk) 15:56, 20 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much for the Opelika pictures!

As for Lee County Schools, I checked again and found that the school district indeed has its human resources and accounting offices at a place addressed as 100 South 6th Street, Opelika, AL. The district shows the mapquest location in this map

  • Do you remember checking to see if this building is 100 South 6th Street? - I can't read the sign on the billboard, but it may not hurt to see if that building is 100 South 6th Street - If you want I could call Lee County Schools and ask at what intersection the accounting/HR office is at

Lee County Schools has its superintendent in a separate building, at 2410 Society Hill Road Opelika, AL 36804. Their mapquest map is here.

I once went out to the Houston suburbs to find a Pakistani consulate along Jones Road. I became surprised when I went up and down Jones Road and couldn't find it! I later found out that it was actually a little bit off of Jones Road, at this location. The good news is I eventually got the photo, and it's on here now :)

A glass of milk[edit]

A glass of milk
For your photo contribs, especially NRHP sites. Thanks! :) Ebyabe (talk) 18:48, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

More thanks for photos, and a bit about categories[edit]

Continued gratitude for taking and uploading pictures of NRHP sites. It's fun seeing these historic places, ain't it? Though also a bit sad, when you run across ones like this old train depot. I've run across more than a few like that in my travels. You take the sad with the good though.

On categories, you needn't add parent categories. For example, if a site is in "Category:National Register of Historic Places in Randolph County, Alabama", it doesn't have to be in "Category:National Register of Historic Places in Alabama" and "Category:National Register of Historic Places" as well. Anyhoo, keep up the good work, and enjoy the travelling. :) --Ebyabe (talk) 01:03, 17 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
