Picture of the Year voting application updated[edit]

We regret the inconveniences you faced into while attempting to vote in this year's POTY and like to express our sincere thanks for reporting this issue. This allowed us to quickly review the error and fix the software behind it. If your time permits, please browse through our wonderful set of candidates now and decide which one you would like to see in Round two. Kind regards, on behalf of the Picture of the Year voting committee, Rillke(q?) 14:21, 1 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for uploading File:Wikiversity wordle cc by.jpeg. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Renaming a series of images[edit]

I've submitted a bunch of move requests to harmonize the names: it's about various versions of the coat of arms of the Soviet Union. You've renamed one, but declined another. And there are others pending. Could you please do them all? Including the one declined: it's best to have them all named <base name> N.svg (with N=1,2,...). Cherkash (talk) 00:09, 28 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Cherkash here. File:Coat of arms of the Soviet Union.svg should be moved to File:Coat of arms of the Soviet Union 2.svg per Criterion 4. pandakekok9 05:17, 28 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Cherkash and Pandakekok9: Sorry but I can't move File:Coat of arms of the Soviet Union.svg it's protected from moving (only an administrator can do it). --Samuele2002 (Talk!) 07:48, 28 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I didn't saw that. Guess we should wait for an admin then, or maybe report it in COM:AN. pandakekok9 08:08, 28 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome, Dear Patroller![edit]

Counter Vandalism Unit

Hi Samuele2002,

You now have the Patroller right and may call yourself a patroller! Please take a moment to read the updated Commons:Patrol to learn how Patrolling works and how we use it to fight vandalism.

As you know already, the patrolling functionality is enabled for all edits, not just for new-page creations. This enables us to keep track of, for example, edits made by anonymous users here on Commons.

We could use your help at the Counter Vandalism Unit. For example by patrolling an Anonymous-edits checklist and checking a day-part.

If you have any questions please leave a message on the CVU talkpage or ask for help on IRC in #wikimedia-commons. . - FitIndia Talk 03:53, 7 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, stop adding false depicts-claims, otherwise I will block you. --A.Savin 23:18, 11 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry Ah I understand, you mean the tags added with Commons:Structured data/Computer-aided tagging/Testing to the file. Sorry I didn't think I made mistakes. I added the tags that I thought related to the image, instead what kind of tags should be put? How many at most? Thanks --Samuele2002 (Talk!) 23:24, 11 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@A.Savin: I will stop using the function, sorry I didn't think I was doing something wrong. --Samuele2002 (Talk!) 23:26, 11 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Renames[edit]

I do not believe that your renames of long held files meets the criteria. Please reread the criteria for harmonisation. It is not due to someone wishing it to be.  — billinghurst sDrewth 16:27, 23 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Billinghurst: Hi the move I made it mainly for 2 reasons: 1) Georgia is an ambiguous name because there is en:Georgia (country) and en:Georgia (U.S. state), 2) looking in the categories I found that the flags were called without "States":Category:SVG flags of states of the United States File:Flag of Arkansas (Hocker).svg, File:Flag of Colorado (1911–1964).svg, File:Flag of Hawaii.svg, File:Flag of Nevada.svg... --Samuele2002 (Talk!) 16:37, 23 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Its meaning can be easily derived. Please reread the criteria for renaming, and the explanatory text.  — billinghurst sDrewth 16:44, 23 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Billinghurst: I understand. Thank you. Sorry for my mistake. --Samuele2002 (Talk!) 16:48, 23 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Congratulations, dear license reviewer[edit]

If you use the helper gadget, you will find the links next to the search box (vector) or as single tabs (monobook). They are named license+ and license-.

Hi Samuele2002, thanks for your request for license reviewer status. The request has been closed as successful, and you've been added to the list of reviewers. You can now start reviewing files – please see Commons:License review and Commons:Flickr files if you haven't done so already. We also have a guide how to detect copyright violations. Potential backlogs include Flickr review and files from other sources. You can enable the LicenseReview gadget from Preferences.

Important: You should not review your own uploads, nor those of anyone closely related to you!

Please feel free to join us on IRC: #wikimedia-commons webchat on irc.freenode.net. You can also add {{User license reviewer}} to your user page if you wish. Thank you for your contributions on Commons! .- FitIndia Talk 05:44, 26 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]
