Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Made a mistake?

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.
Do you want to have your recently uploaded picture removed? Tag it as {{speedy|reason here}}. For more information read the deletion guidelines.

tvar syntax[edit]

Hello Sabelöga, thanks for helping out with translations! In case you didn't know, the syntax for translation variables was recently updated. Instead of using ..., please use ... instead. @AntiCompositeNumber: Hello, thank you for bringing this to my attention, I had previously seen that syntax being used on other pages and thought that I maybe should have used it but wasn't too sure on what it would look like and decided that someone would probably come and fix it if it had to be done. Anyway, can I read up on this somewhere, maybe where the change was announced? Are there any more changes made to the Translate extension and does this only affect MediaWiki wikis? --Sabelöga (talk) 15:00, 5 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

It's mentioned on mw:Extension:Translate/Page_translation_administration#Variables. I also see messages about it in the translation administration interface. The other major changes are improvements to how transcluding a translated page as a template works (something we previously implemented with more templates) and how untranslated units are treated on partially-translated pages. Those changes shouldn't make much of a difference in most cases, but you can read more on the same page under "Language aware transclusion" and "Plain-text values" (see also phab:T254484). The tvar syntax and language-aware transclusion are part of MediaWiki 1.37, which won't be officially released for a while. The changes to untranslated units happened in MediaWiki 1.36, which is the most recent stable release. AntiCompositeNumber (talk) 15:47, 5 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Reminder[edit]

Hi Sabelöga. I noticed that you've made a malformed deletion request. Here, {{Delete}} is not for speedy deletion, please see COM:DP. When you want to delete a page by manually using the {{Delete}} template (rather than the automatic Nominate for deletion tool in the Tools menu on the sidebar per COM:DR#Starting requests), you must follow the instructions in the template, including the "Click here to show further instructions" portion (or Commons:Deletion requests/Listing a request manually policy), otherwise you will create a lot of work for other people. — Jeff G. ツ_{please ping or talk to me} 22:24, 13 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hej! Du brukar alltid vara hjälpsam och fixa och dona med tävlingssidor och översättningar, så jag undrar om du kan tänka dig att sätta upp grundstrukturen för svenska delen av WLE 2022 genom att kopiera Commons:Wiki Loves Earth 2021 in Sweden till Commons:Wiki Loves Earth 2022 in Sweden (men lämna tomt för priser och jury tills vidare) samt skapa tillhörande kategorier och undersidor? Hej, Återanvänder texten och upprepar frågan efter tidigare års underbara service med att sätta upp sidorna för WLE och WLM. Är det nånting du kan tänka dig att göra i år också? Hi Sabelöga (and @Axel Pettersson), I saw you created the page Commons:Wiki Loves Earth 2024 in Sweden. Just checking the upload wizard for your country, I noticed one text not being translated. Can you please provide a translation of MediaWiki:Mwe-upwiz-campaigns-wle-nomination-hre here below in Swedish (and possible also in Finnish)? Thanks! Hi, It is used in the upload wizard for Wiki Loves Earth. This page is in the MediaWiki namespace so only interface admins can modify it.
