Identifying Bradley Fighting Vehicle[edit]

Inquiring minds want to know: How do you identify whether a Bradley is an M2 or M3, as you did here? Thanks in advance! Schierbecker (talk) 08:20, 21 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @Schierbecker,
You can see at the back of this vehicle that the firing ports have been plated up, it's typical of early production M3s (on later M3s they were totally deleted). On M2A0 and A1 those firing slots exist and are fully operational. The difference is visible between this M2A0 and this M3A0.
Things get more complicated with A2 version and followings. In those case, the differences are the disposition of the vision slits and the shape of the upper hull door : on the M3s the vision slits are installed on this door, while they’re on the hull on the M2s. For example, this is an M2A3, while this one is an M3A3. The view on the door and the side hull is however often obscured by all the stuff they put on it, so it’s way more difficult to identify clearly on those version.
As far as I know, there is also no way to tell apart M2s from M3s from the front, differences are mainly on the rear half.
As a rule I don’t use units as a solid proof, since there is several occurrences of cavalry units using M2s.
Hope it does answer your question ! Runi Gerardsen (talk) 10:48, 21 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
