Thanks for uploading File:Naparima (ship, 1905) - plan - VDI-Z 1906.png. I notice that the file page either doesn't contain enough information about the license or it contains contradictory information about the license, so the copyright status is unclear.

If you created this file yourself, then you must provide a valid copyright tag. For example, you can tag it with {{self|GFDL|cc-by-sa-all}} to release it under the multi-license GFDL plus Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike All-version license or you can tag it with {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain. (See Commons:Copyright tags for the full list of license tags that you can use.)

If you did not create the file yourself or if it is a derivative of another work that is possibly subject to copyright protection, then you must specify where you found it (e.g. usually a link to the web page where you got it), you must provide proof that it has a license that is acceptable for Commons (e.g. usually a link to the terms of use for content from that page), and you must add an appropriate license tag. If you did not create the file yourself and the specific source and license information is not available on the web, you must obtain permission through the VRT system and follow the procedure described there.

Note that any unsourced or improperly licensed files will be deleted one week after they have been marked as lacking proper information, as described in criteria for deletion. If you have uploaded other files, please confirm that you have provided the proper information for those files, too. If you have any questions about licenses please ask at Commons:Village pump/Copyright or see our help pages. Thank you.

Håber i øvrigt du trives.

Mvh. --Urbandweller (talk) 16:36, 29 March 2018 (UTC)

Hej Urbandweller. Her er opskriften:

Venligst --Urbandweller (talk) 19:57, 29 March 2018 (UTC)
Hej igen Urbandweller.

--Villy Fink Isaksen (talk) 21:25, 29 March 2018 (UTC)

Men det virker her http://www.bruun-rasmussen.dk/search.do?mode=detail&iid=300463269&tg=classic hvad er mon årsagen? --Villy Fink Isaksen (talk) 21:29, 29 March 2018 (UTC)
--Urbandweller (talk) 21:32, 29 March 2018 (UTC)
Hej Villy og Urbandweller. Måske var vejledningen lidt for kompakt. Beklager. --Rsteen (talk) 21:36, 29 March 2018 (UTC)

Hvad mener i?

--Villy Fink Isaksen (talk) 21:01, 30 March 2018 (UTC)

Deltager meget gerne, Villy.
Venligst --Urbandweller (talk) 22:01, 30 March 2018 (UTC)
Venlig hilsen --Rsteen (talk) 10:40, 31 March 2018 (UTC)
Fejl i Dezoomify

Men i nogle få tilfælde - som her: Viggo Johansen: En større samling skitser fra bl. a. (5). - løber jeg ind i problemer, for her optræder nogle lærreder uden rammer.

Venlig hilsen --Rsteen (talk) 05:23, 28 April 2018 (UTC)
Mvh. --Urbandweller (talk) 19:12, 28 April 2018 (UTC)
NB: URAA - implikationer for ophavsretten

Venlig hilsen --Rsteen (talk) 07:44, 11 June 2018 (UTC)

Category:Tordenskjold (ship, 1882)

Hi, You moved this away from Category:Tordenskjold (ship, 1880) which is incorrect. The norm is date of launch. The ship was launched in 30 September 1880. There are too many ships named Tordenskjold, to let it lie like this. Please revert it. Thanks. Broichmore (talk) 09:14, 22 July 2018 (UTC)

Hi Broichmore. Using the launch date may the the norm on English Wikipedia (and otherwhere), but it is not the norm on Commons. Here we use the completition year (in this case 1882). Please read the discussion here Category_talk:Ships_by_year_of_manufacture. This is the guidance I follow until convinced otherwise. Cheers --Rsteen (talk) 12:46, 22 July 2018 (UTC)
Your right. I didn't know this. I've been using launch date. I don't understand why the EN:Wikipedia is not king here. The great majority of ship images worldwide have been stored or conserved on English sites using launch date??? Broichmore (talk) 13:57, 22 July 2018 (UTC)
Hi again Broichmore. Glad you found out. People can name images more or less how they want - it is the categorization system that matters. And you might be pleased to observe that the English language is "king" here in the context that all descriptive categories on Commons have to be in English. Cheers --Rsteen (talk) 14:14, 22 July 2018 (UTC)
I wasn't trying to make a facetious comment. I'm still getting over the shock of this. I've made 329 cats, using launch. 167 of them are HMS. I must have looked at 3 or 4 times that number, and checked them for launch date, and I've only found 4 or 5 exceptions to the launch date being used. Your thoughts? Best. Broichmore (talk) 16:12, 22 July 2018 (UTC)
Hi Broichmore. You are right that en:wikipedia has a consensus about launch date. But as stated above, Commons has a consensus about using the year of completion. So, for a lot of vessels, the procedure would be to change the category from "launchyear, ship" to "completion-year, ship". In an ideal world, the name of the ship category (HMS Name Year) should also be fixed, but that is a secondary item. Best wishes --Rsteen (talk) 20:13, 22 July 2018 (UTC)

Naming Ship cats

Hi, While we're on the subject of ships. The policy for making a cat title is: "<name of ship> (ship, <year>)" a naming convention rather than a disambiguation rule. "(ship, <year>)" is added even if there is no other category named "<name of ship>". The "<name of ship>" may already mean ship. May I ask your view why we are inserting "ship into the title? I have my own views. What's yours? Why everything is ship; except submarine and tugboats? Best regards. Broichmore (talk) 09:08, 30 July 2018 (UTC)

Hi Broichmore. I would imagine that this naming convention stems from the fact that many ships are named after famous people or after towns, rivers, mythological persons and so forth, and to avoid disambiguation, you add "ship" and "year". In the UK, you put HMS in front, and you know it is a ship, but again - this is an international project. I agree that in many cases there is no risk of a disambiguation, but as a naming convention, I think it is ok. Cheers --Rsteen (talk) 11:33, 30 July 2018 (UTC)
As far as I know the standard practise is to include HMS with ship in the title too. I.E. HMS Whatever (ship, 1900), why then? Broichmore (talk) 11:51, 30 July 2018 (UTC)
Yes Broichmore, it can be HMS, USS, SS and so forth. The discussion pages about naming still exist, and I just accept that this is the naming system the community has arrived at. You could start a new discussion there, if you want to. --Rsteen (talk) 13:06, 30 July 2018 (UTC)
Do you know where the previous discussions are that led to the naming policy? Broichmore (talk) 13:12, 30 July 2018 (UTC)
One of the discussions can be found here Commons:Categories for discussion/2013/08/ Naming categories for individual naval and fishing ships. It is rather long-winded, Broichmore, but does include gems of information. Cheers --Rsteen (talk) 13:37, 30 July 2018 (UTC)
That was interesting. A lot of comments by people who don't do catting, by the look of it... I feel we need to to simplify. The customer is using EN:Wikipedia as their first stop to finding a ship, looking up articles and disambiguation pages. Therefore we should use their criteria. We should use the launch year first (cos that's when the ship is named), if none available the build year etc. We shouldn't use pennant or hull numbers (but they should be in the details)... Further disambiguation: Yard numbers! Prefixes for Naval ships only OK, unless its part of the name. Foreign navies leave as name only, which is how Commons should have treated ALL prefixes to begin with... What do you think? I think you'll find the by far and away the greatest number of cats are already launch date. Broichmore (talk) 16:32, 30 July 2018 (UTC)
Well, Broichmore, personally I am quite content with the present system. I find it suitable that (ship, "1234") corresponds to category ships built in "1234". I respect your wish to alter it, but can not support you in that endeavour. --Rsteen (talk) 18:59, 30 July 2018 (UTC)

Hej Villy. Venlig hilsen --Rsteen (talk) 12:11, 6 December 2018 (UTC)

User:Rsteen/Artists from Denmark

Hvorfor er mit sidste upload, File:Dansk maler, En kvinde skuer tænksomt ud over havet. Antagelig sceneri fra en nordisk saga, 19. århundrede .png, ikke med i User:Rsteen/Artists from Denmark/2018 December 21-31? Det må nok være en programmeringsfejl. --Villy Fink Isaksen (talk) 10:40, 22 December 2018 (UTC)

Hej Villy.
--Villy Fink Isaksen (talk) 15:12, 22 December 2018 (UTC)
Hej Villy. Tak for oprettelsen. Venlig hilsen --Rsteen (talk) 17:05, 22 December 2018 (UTC)

Hvordan behandler vi ubekendte kunstnere i kategorien: Category:Statens Museum for Kunst? De blev lagt ind kort efter oprydningen. --Villy Fink Isaksen (talk) 10:52, 28 December 2018 (UTC)

Hej Villy. Man kunne gøre som i Louvre: "Paintings by anonymous artists in the Louvre", med underkategorier.

Se min ændring her: https://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Template:PaintingfromDenmarkcat&diff=prev&oldid=335357151 .

Villy Fink Isaksen (talk) 20:14, 2 April 2019 (UTC)

Hej Villy. Flot maleri af S.S. Amerika. J. A. Moutte

Hi, Can you please look at (File:Skonnerten Frithiof, by J. A Moutte XLM.13857.jpg) I need a native speaker with access to the proper Danish sources to decipher the caption at the bottom of it. He uses the term Skonnerten?, also the captains name? Frithiof the way that's spelt or indeed the script used, maybe clues. I think Moutte is Swedish, but he could be Norwegian, indeed the entirety of the Category:J. A. Moutte and all its contents should be put under a microscope by a native speaker. Thanks in advance. Regards Broichmore (talk) 11:58, 19 May 2019 (UTC)

Hi Broichmore. Now there is the Swedish text and a translation. I am afraid J.A. Moutte remains something of a mistery. He was probably a member of the Moutte family of Marseilles, and maybe earned a little extra making ship portraits. But there is indeed a large segment of Swedish vessels among his work. By the way his initials may not have been "J.A.". Most paintings are signed "J." or "Jn". Cheers Rsteen (talk) 15:38, 19 May 2019 (UTC)
The Bengal picture is Signed Lower Right : J. Ande Moutte 1872, has that any particular meaning? Ande? Broichmore (talk) 19:07, 19 May 2019 (UTC)

Hej Villy. Identification of ships

Hi Can you look at these two images and advise the names of the two ships involved (not the steamer). First image (your upload): thumb|Eckersberg, C W - Prins Frederik går ombord på fregatten Havfruen - 1832 - Detail and second image: the original picture thumb|Christoffer-wilhelm-eckersberg-kjobenhavns-reed-den-1.-may-1832.-prins-frederik-gaar-om----bord-paa-fregatten-havfruen-for-at-gore. Thanks. - Broichmore (talk) 19:49, 12 October 2019 (UTC)

Hi Broichmore. Bramsen, in his 1962 book identified the frigate on the right as the Havfruen. This means that the one on the left must be the Nymphen, as they were the two Danish frigates on active service in the Sound at the time. I have expanded the description on our upload. Cheers --Rsteen (talk) 05:10, 13 October 2019 (UTC)
So this image here thumb|HDMS Havfruen (1825) is mis-named? Notice, both frigates have men in the rigging. -Broichmore (talk) 08:26, 13 October 2019 (UTC)
Hi again Broichmore. Good point. Bramsen was an art historian, not a naval historian, so he might have gotten it wrong, describing the ship to the right as the Havfruen. With the material at hand, I can not say which is which of the two frigates. Cheers --Rsteen (talk) 10:59, 13 October 2019 (UTC)

Hi Trzęsacz. You should be aware that when the painting was sold in 2001, it was paired with the painting of her husband Augustin Gamél. The thumbnail at that time would only show her husband's portrait - and that could be true in 2013 also. Cheers --Rsteen (talk) 06:13, 2 November 2019 (UTC)

Important message for file movers

A community discussion has been closed where the consensus was to grant all file movers the suppressredirect user right. This will allow file movers to not leave behind a redirect when moving files and instead automatically have the original file name deleted. Policy never requires you to suppress the redirect, suppression of redirects is entirely optional.

Possible acceptable uses of this ability:

  • To move recently uploaded files with an obvious error in the file name where that error would not be a reasonable redirect. For example: moving "Sheep in a tree.jpg" to "Squirrel in a tree.jpg" when the image does in fact depict a squirrel.
  • To perform file name swaps.
  • When the original file name contains vandalism. (File renaming criterion #5)

Please note, this ability should be used only in certain circumstances and only if you are absolutely sure that it is not going to break the display of the file on any project. Redirects should never be suppressed if the file is in use on any project. When in doubt, leave a redirect. If you forget to suppress the redirect in case of file name vandalism or you are not fully certain if the original file name is actually vandalism, leave a redirect and tag the redirect for speedy deletion per G2.

The malicious or reckless breaking of file links via the suppressredirect user right is considered an abuse of the file mover right and is grounds for immediate revocation of that right. This message serves as both a notice that you have this right and as an official warning. Questions regarding this right should be directed to administrators. --Majora (talk) 21:36, 7 November 2019 (UTC)

Counter Vandalism Unit

Hi Rsteen,

You now have the Patroller right and may call yourself a patroller! Please take a moment to read the updated Commons:Patrol to learn how Patrolling works and how we use it to fight vandalism.

As you know already, the patrolling functionality is enabled for all edits, not just for new-page creations. This enables us to keep track of, for example, edits made by anonymous users here on Commons.

We could use your help at the Counter Vandalism Unit. For example by patrolling an Anonymous-edits checklist and checking a day-part.

If you have any questions please leave a message on the CVU talkpage or ask for help on IRC in #wikimedia-commons.
