File:Travis King.webp has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Autopatrol given[edit]

Hello. I just wanted to let you know that I have granted autopatrol rights to your account; the reason for this is that I believe you are sufficiently trustworthy and experienced to have your contributions automatically marked as "reviewed". This has no effect on your editing, it is simply intended to make it easier for users that are monitoring Recent changes or Recent uploads to find unproductive edits amidst the productive ones like yours. In addition, the Flickr upload feature and an increased number of batch-uploads in UploadWizard, uploading of freely licensed MP3 files, overwriting files uploaded by others and an increased limit for page renames per minute are now available to you. Thank you. GPSLeo (talk) 16:11, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Could you please explain...[edit]

I saw you tagged File:USNS Mendonca (T-AKR-303) undeway at sea.jpg as a copyright violation. I think you are asserting that https://catalog.archives.gov/id/6609105, attributes a photo of this vessel to "Ricky Kellum Litton".

I uploaded File:USNS Mendonca (T-AKR-303) undeway at sea.jpg, from https://www.msc.navy.mil/inventory/ships.php?ship=123

You removed the tag, with the edit summary "Awaiting outcome of Commons:Deletion requests/File:Low oblique port side (off center-line) view of the Military Sealift Command (MSC) Bob Hope class strategic heavy lift ship USNS MENDONCA (T-AKR 303) underway, on sea trials - DPLA - 0b76a3470b00ace69ef303fa4835679d.jpeg"

Can you explain how the attribution of A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT PHOTO would be relevant to the copyright status of File:USNS Mendonca (T-AKR-303) undeway at sea.jpg? Geo Swan (talk) 21:53, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Geo Swan I assert that the image you uploaded from the MSC website is the same as the image at https://catalog.archives.gov/id/6609099 (it's just a different crop with slightly altered colors, which you can see if you look at how the water is splashing against the ship). As it is taken by the same photographer, and given the fact that somebody contested the deletion under CSD of the other image, I have decided to await the determination on the other image. I apologize if I made this a little confusing. – Recoil16 (talk) 22:14, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  1. How do you know it was taken by the same photographer?
  2. As I said in the discussion about the other photograph, the NARA site says all the pictures it puts online are in the public domain. So, it seems to me, that without explanation, you are trying to tell the rest of the archivist made a mistake. I am concerned because I think taking the precautionary principle to bizarre lengths exposes the project to ridicule. If we wanted to be super-paranoid we could assume every single one of our photos' free status was based on a mistake. Let's not do that. When good faith uploaders, with a long record of contribution, assert the most recent photo where they claimed {{Own}}, was actually their work. When an archive with a reliable record asserts a photo is in the public domain, let's assume the archivist responsible for that upload was competent, and it actually is in the public domain, OK? Geo Swan (talk) 23:05, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    1. How many Ricky Kellums do you think are taking pictures of USNS Mendonca? Are you really asserting https://catalog.archives.gov/id/6609105 and https://catalog.archives.gov/id/6609099 were taken by different photographers?
    2. Ok, if consensus is to just take NARA at their word, then I am clearly in the wrong, and you could have just said that. – Recoil16 (talk) 23:52, 12 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
