Please explain this edit you made. -- Tuválkin 16:16, 16 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Tuvalkin: I wasn't aware that had happened, didn't know till now, and can't explain why it did. Very sorry! Rcsprinter123 (talk) 15:04, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Maps of Salt Lake County, Utah[edit]

I'm really happy with File:Salt Lake County Utah incorporated and unincorporated areas.svg and variants. Thank you so much. I'd like to get maps like this for every county in Utah. How do you make them? Ntsimp (talk) 14:31, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Ntsimp. I'm working on making this style of maps for every county in the U.S., which is a slow work in progress. Each set for a county usually takes me a couple of hours to make and upload. They are created by using the U.S. census data with a vector editing programme in a long and complicated process. I had to devise it myself as the script used for the original sets a few years ago wasn't made available - only some states were completed and I'm doing all the rest. I'm happy to prioritise Utah for you, as soon as I've finished Wake Co., NC. Rcsprinter123 (talk) 15:01, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You're too kind. Ntsimp (talk) 22:57, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Those maps are looking great. Thanks again. Ntsimp (talk) 13:49, 22 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I've been watching the process. Thank you so much; your beautiful and informative maps add a lot to the Wikipedia articles. Ntsimp (talk) 20:35, 31 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Adoption on enwiki[edit]

Hi Rcsprinter. You may delete my adoption page on enwiki. I no longer want to continue it when I return. Sorry. --(✉→Arctic Kangaroo←✎) 04:10, 20 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Recent maps[edit]

Hi,

I have a few concerns with some of the maps you have recently uploaded:

  1. The areas should be clipped to the coast (eg Torbay on the Devon map). While I'm not that keen on the style (blanking out surroundings can be misleading, as it gives false impression the subject is an island), the coastline should be reflected in the final map.
  2. File:Yorkshire UK locator map.svg is not of ceremonial counties, and shouldn't be in ceremonial county cats. I'd be careful about calling it the historic county of Yorkshire too - as modern N+E+S+W Yorks is not the same as the historic county.
  3. They are not correctly licensed. You cannot license the derivatives under GFDL, as the originals are only licensed under cc-by-sa.
  4. More general issues with attribution: While the Yorkshire map is your work, it was derived from one of my maps - and should be attributed as such (its not wholly your work). The OS attribution I specify is to comply with the OpenData license and that attribution has been lost.--Nilfanion (talk) 22:03, 20 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I have clipped Torbay to the coast, but I don't think there was any other ones needing this apart from Wirral in Merseyside which I already clipped in the first upload. I have altered the categorisation and included you as an author on the Yorkshire map, but which exactly is the correct license for me to use for it (and the other maps)? As for the border accuracy, I shall update that in the next week or so when I have time to devote to it. Rcsprinter123 (talk) 19:34, 21 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Torbay is only one I could see where difference between coast and extent of realm is noticeable at this scale. The other coastal counties may have potential issues too, for instance the boundaries go a long way offshore in the Wash and Morecambe Bay. I'd imagine in many cases its not worth the hassle of course.
Correct license would be cc-by-sa only. That's not restricted to the generic 3.0, but to any 3.0 or later version. The attribution requirement (to me and OS) would be met by suitable backlinks to the blank. Hope that helps.--Nilfanion (talk) 21:23, 21 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Rcsprinter123, you're now a filemover. When moving files please respect the following advice:

  • Use the CommonsDelinker link in the {{Rename}} template to order a bot to replace all ocurrences of the old title with the new one. Or, if there was no rename-request, please use the Move & Replace-tab.
  • Please leave a redirect behind unless you have a valid reason not to do so. Other projects, including those using InstantCommons, might be using the file even though they don't show up in the global usage. Deleting the redirects would break their file references. Please see this section of the file rename guideline for more information.
  • Please know and follow the file rename guidelines.

OTRS[edit]

Hi, please do not take for granted that the subject of a picture is the copyright holder. In principle the copyright belongs to the photographer, not to the depicted person, unless the depicted person can show a written document in which the photographer transfers the copyright to the depicted person. We have a standard answer in OTRS to tell that. Jcb (talk) 18:09, 12 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

OK. I think I might have just been a bit eager. I'll pay more attention to that situation from now on. Rcsprinter123 (talk) 22:06, 12 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Nassau County maps[edit]

Thanks for making such clear and attractive maps for Nassau County, NY! I wanted to point out a correction: in New York, cities are not part of any town, so the maps for Oyster Bay and Hempstead should exclude Glen Cove and Long Beach, respectively, as these are the only two cities in Nassau County. Antony-22 (talk) 06:29, 7 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Antony-22: Sorry, a small oversight there. Both are now updated. Rcsprinter123 (talk) 20:42, 7 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
No worries, it's easy to miss. But shouldn't the boundaries for both cities be shown on each of the three town maps for consistency? Antony-22 (talk) 05:56, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Antony-22: OK, updated them all. Rcsprinter123 (talk) 17:47, 9 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Awesome, thanks! Antony-22 (talk) 04:52, 15 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]

County maps[edit]

Hello Rcsprinter123,

I see you have created may Northeast US county SVG maps, and I was wondering, what resources would you point me towards to try some on my own? Looking at your table of past SVGs completed, it seems you've been working at a breakneck pace. I read the Inkscape beginner's guide, and it would be a pleasure if I could help.
