Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks

Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
There are several tools to upload files.
Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.

Do you want to have a file renamed or moved? Use the move link and wait for an authorized user to rename it.

Hi there, I have the authority to use this image on Wikimedia Commons. Yes it was previously uploaded to http://www.mazhacareerguidefoundation.com/our-team/

I don't know what kind of licence is used to make it stay on this platform, might be it have to be mentioned that it has taken from http://www.mazhacareerguidefoundation.com/our-team/

@Pokai, the image source explitly notes "© 2021 by Mazha Career Guide Foundation", so it is copyrighted and its usage here infringes copyright. If you know the original author/copyrights holder, you would need to arrange a COM:VRT permissions release. I or you cannot relicense someone else's work. It is nonetheless not your own work. For images to remain on Commons, their authors/copyright holders need to release them under a compatible license as explained at COM:Licensing and "use on Wikimedia Commons" is not adequate permission. Please let me clear that these images are not really copyright violation, infact most of the pictures are clicked by me then it has been used in different places.

My mistake is that I didn't know that I have to licence it properly with permission, of course it has increased my work because now I have to take proper permission from the entities to undelete these images, which will of course consume my time. In all these the weird thing is that with all due respect, you guys are wake up suddenly after almost a year or more an a year after uploading these images, somewhere this sounds odd for me.

Kindly tell me if I click an official photo and upload it here, after some days that photo has been uploaded to a website of an organization, so is that will be copyright violation or not?

Hi @Pokai: If you upload an image on Wikimedia Commons that you have clicked and other websites copy and re-use it, is not something that we care for here, because free licenses allow re-use. We care for what is copyright violation on our project. If an image is previously published elsewhere and then someone uploads it here as own work, it is surely a clear copyright violation and would be deleted straighaway when an admin notices it. However, if someone correctly uploads an image from elsewhere which has been released under a free license, and proves it as such, it won't be a copyright violation. In your case, you have copied a lot of images from elsewhere, uploaded them as your own work which is a lie, and is the worst kind of copyright violation that one can fall in.

If any of the images whose copyrights belong to you have been deleted from here for copyright violation, you would need to prove your authorship through COM:VRT. Best regards, ─ Aafī (talk) 10:04, 25 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
