First steps tutorial

Our first steps tour and our frequently asked questions will help you a lot after registration. They explain how to customize the interface (for example the language), how to upload files and our basic licensing policy (Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content).

You don't need technical skills in order to contribute here. Be bold when contributing and assume good faith when interacting with others. This is a wiki.

Getting help

More information is available at the community portal. You may ask questions at the help desk, village pump or on IRC channel #wikimedia-commons (webchat). You can also contact an administrator on their talk page. If you have a specific copyright question, ask at the copyright village pump.

Goodies, tips, and tricks
  • Put Babel boxes on your user page so others know what languages you can speak and indicate your graphic abilities.
  • You can find the files you have uploaded in your Uploads.
  • Please sign your name on Talk pages by typing ~~~~.
  • To link to an image page without embedding the image, type: [[:File:Foo.jpg]], which produces: File:Foo.jpg.
  • You may enable gadgets (custom features) for your account.
  • There are several tools to upload files.
  • Have you edited Wikipedia before? This guide might be useful.
Made a mistake?

Titelblad "Van Zon Zaliger"

Wilt u bij de bestandsomschrijving de gegevens vermelden van het object zelf. De bron is in dit geval het boek en de auteur is Vermandere. De datum heeft betrekking op de ouderdom van het originele document. In dit geval kan de datum vermeld worden waarop het boek werd gesigneerd. Ik heb het een en ander gecorrigeerd. Zoals eerder gebleken is kan het verkeerd dateren van een object aanleiding zijn tot lastige discussies, die vermeden kunnen worden. Ellis Peters

Deze foto wordt wereldwijd op meer dan 20 plaatsen in diverse taalversies van Wikipedia gebruikt als portretfoto van Ellis Peters (dus niet alleen in de Nederlandstalige, maar ook in de Italiaanse, Duitse, Japanse, Noorse, Engelse, Poolse enz., enz. versies van Wikipedia). Ik heb die afbeelding dan ook teruggebracht naar haar portret. De volledige foto staat ook nog steeds op Commons, zie File:Ellis Peters and Pieter Janssens.jpg. De bestandsbeschrijving zijn hier (op Commons) aangepast. Het was een nogal ondoordachte actie van u om een afbeelding die op zoveel verschillende plaatsen gebruikt wordt te gaan wijzigen. Beter is het in zo'n geval om een nieuwe afbeelding te plaatsen, waardoor zowel eventueel de uitgebreide versie als de uitsnede ervan gebruikt kunnen worden.Gouwenaar (talk) 22:21, 3 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry hoor, maar ik heb de oorspronkelijke foto járen geleden bij dat artikel gezet. Nadat iemand die afbeelding had bijgesneden heb ik dat ongedaan gemaakt. Ja, dat is exact het probleem. Wereldwijd wordt gebruik gemaakt van dit bestand op Commons. Als het bestand hier wordt gewijzigd heeft dat effect op alle plaatsen waar het bestand wordt gebruikt. Gouwenaar (talk) 12:27, 4 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Dat is maar de vraag. De afbeelding werd indertijd door ene Meray geplaatst (was u dat?). De foto werd vervolgens overal gebruikt in artikelen over Ellis Peters/Edith Pargeter. Dan is het niet onlogisch om een uitsnede te gebruiken met de correcte naam File:Ellis Peters.jpg (die vlag dekt de lading immers). In voorkomende gevallen kan beter deze tool gebruikt worden.
