Hello, Pashute!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

[[Category:Category name]]

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

[[Category:Astronomical diagrams]]
[[Category:Comets]]

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

License mixup on File:Heat exchanger.jpg[edit]

I'm confused by the source and license of this image. Looks like you uploaded it here (commons) and identified the author as Paul Lueftung (Germany), I assume (?) based on the URL watermark on the image and gave the license as creative-commons. However, you also said in the source field that you imported the file from English Wikipedia. The image-file there says that the image was uploaded by en:User:Jlfd who declared it was his own work and is public-domain. I don't see that uploader declare that he is Paul Lueftung himself, and I don't think an image can be relicensed more restrictively on his behalf once he's released it. I'm a bit concerned that the original upload is flawed (it's unusual for someone to upload something from one's own commercial website and release it as public-domain), but if we take it at its word, need to keep the commons copy with the author and license of the original. DMacks (talk) 09:24, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I don't remember where my sources where, I think I did some research. Please check it out further before you do anything. Personally I don't have time to do so. If I'm not mistaken, there is a German version of the same image on German wikipedia, and there it is listed as Paul Lueftung's. If the image is removed from commons, I'll make a (totally different) image of my own showing this important principle in a different way. It's used in various pages. I don't have the time to check it out, or "fight for it's rights". So do whatever and notify me. I hope it stays. You could also contact Jlfd if possible. I will look into it this week and let you know what I find. DMacks (talk) 13:43, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Here goes: Counter current multiplier. This one is my own, makes life easier.

countercurrent diagram[edit]

Countercurrent exchange conservation circuit

Is there an error in this figure? Why does the flow cool from 20 to 19 as it goes through the U-turn? The leftmost red arrows imply that heat is being added at that point. Maybe was the vertical flow supposed to be colder than u-turn flow? Spiel496 (talk) 00:21, 23 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Yes you are correct. Either (a) the number inside the leftmost down-pointing arrow should be 18 and the small red arrows moving the other way, showing a minimal loss of energy to the environment at the loop, or (b) pumps should be shown close to the loop, actively moving heat/solvant back from the outgoing to the incoming stream. I don't have time to fix it now. The diagram is used in heat exchange. Either we temporarily remove it. (The terribly wrong countercurrent exchange currently is without it, and fare's well without it) or someone fixes it. Thanks!! I'll probably get to it this month, and do an overhaul on the whole subject, getting it straight. Pashute (talk) 03:38, 25 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Pay attention to copyright
File:Moshe Katzav.jpg has been marked as a possible copyright violation. Wikimedia Commons only accepts free content—that is, images and other media files that can be used by anyone, for any purpose. Traditional copyright law does not grant these freedoms, and unless noted otherwise, everything you find on the web is copyrighted and not permitted here. For details on what is acceptable, please read Commons:Licensing. You may also find Commons:Copyright rules useful, or you can ask questions about Commons policies at the Commons:Help desk. If you are the copyright holder and the creator of the file, please read Commons:But it's my own work! for tips on how to provide evidence of that.

The file you added has been deleted. If you have written permission from the copyright holder, please have them send us a free license release via COM:VRT. If you believe that the deletion was not in accordance with policy, you may request undeletion. (It is not necessary to request undeletion if using VRT; the file will be automatically restored at the conclusion of the process.)

Warning: Wikimedia Commons takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

Yes it was a copyright violation, by an error of mine. I was about to remove it. In any case it was removed from usage on the Hebrew page immediately after being added, so no harm. Pashute (talk) 19:55, 30 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
File:Will delete this one..JPG has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Yes, I asked to remove an image that I uploaded by mistake. It's not a copyright problem, just something is not needed, and was uploaded together with a group of images. I thought I could remove it immediately myself but did not see how to do that. Pashute (talk) 08:44, 22 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

File:Ugaritic-alphabet-chart-Hebrew.png[edit]

This chart has a lot of problems; I'm not too sure what it would be useful for... AnonMoos (talk) 08:37, 30 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

What problems do you see? Please spell out a few. It is useful for speakers and readers of the Hebrew Wikipedia of course. In fact it is the opening point for understanding much of the Phonician and Arameic alphabet evolution and development, and is a key to reading Ugaritic as a semitic language for many.
