There seems to be a problem regarding the description and/or licensing of this particular file. It has been found that you've added in the image's description only a Template that's not a license and although it provides useful information about the image, it's not a valid license. Could you please resolve this problem, adding the license in the image linked above? You can edit the description page and change the text. Uploading a new version of the file does not change the description of the file. This page may give you more hints on which license to choose. Thank you.

A file that you uploaded to Wikimedia Commons from Flickr, File:Monklands, Montreal.jpg, was found available on Flickr by an administrator or reviewer under the license Noncommercial (NC), No derivative works (ND), or All Rights Reserved (Copyright), which isn't compatible with Wikimedia Commons, per the licensing policy. The file has been deleted. Commons:Flickr files/Appeal for license change has information about sending the Flickr user an appeal asking for the license to be changed. Only Flickr images tagged as BY (CC BY), BY SA (CC BY-SA), CC0 (CC0) and PDM (PDM) are allowed on Wikimedia Commons. If the Flickr user has changed the license of the Flickr image, feel free to ask an administrator to restore the file, or start an undeletion request.

watermarked images

[edit]

Hi Parsica. It would be helpful to add {{watermark}} to uploads that contain a watermark such as in file File:John Richardson of Montreal.jpg. They are then placed in Category:Images with watermarks where other editors, over time, can remove those watermarks. Nice uploads by the way. – JBarta (talk) 22:21, 31 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Helpful, yes, except the backlog of images waiting for watermarks to be removed is huge. Parsica, I really encourage you to crop your uploads before uploading them to the Commons -- it's a big job for others to do if you do not. Thanks. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 21:00, 2 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Uploads from the McCord Museum

[edit]

Hello. Thanks for all your uploads. I just wanted to make the following suggestions:

  1. Please crop the McCord Museum watermark off the side of the image before uploading the image to Wikipedia Commons. It is a big job for others to now go back and crop those images -- the backlog of images with watermarks to remove is tremendous. It would be extremely helpful if you assisted by uploading cropped images over some of the ones you have already uploaded. Feel free to ask me questions on how to do so.
  2. Please use the {{MM}} tag on all media from McCord Museum. See, for example, this image for an example on how to use it.
  3. Please do not tag the images {{PD-US}}, unless the image was created in the U.S. (i.e. not a photograph of Montreal) or you have evidence it was published in the United States shortly after creation. Instead, use the following:
    1. {{PD-Canada}}{{PD-1923}} - The image was published before 1923, or
    2. {{PD-Canada}}{{PD-1996|Canada|January 1, 1996|Image was public domain in Canada prior to the URAA date}} - The image was created before 1923 (but there is no evidence of publication), or the image was created/published between 1923 and 1946
  4. Please be careful not to upload duplicates - a quick search before uploading will usually tell you if the image is already on the Commons. It's a waste of your time and effort if an upload of yours is eventually deleted because its duplicate already exists on the Commons.
  5. Please do not include "© Musée McCord" in the image description. These images are public domain; if the copyright were held by the Museum, we would not be able to host them here on the Commons. Similarly, please make sure the author and date fields are correctly completed -- the museum is not the author of these images and they were not created in 2012.

I hope this helps. Feel free to ask any questions. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 20:57, 2 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This revised file of yours is a good example of how the image description box can look. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 21:52, 2 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
File:Costume of the Montreal Snowshoe Club.jpg has been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether it should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at its entry.

If you created this file, please note that the fact that it has been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with it, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!

Hello. What is the source of this image? I need to know the artist and to confirm that it actually dates to the 1840s, or some later date that would make it public domain, as opposed to being a more contemporary image of the house. Thanks! Cheers, --Skeezix1000 (talk) 22:18, 2 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I don't mean to pester you, but could you please respond to my comments and question above, when you have a moment? Thanks for your help. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 12:51, 4 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi - not pestering at all, thank you, but which one? I replied to the evening coat question stating that all McCord Museum (Montreal) photographs (old or new) have a creative commons license. The elmsley villa picture was painted in the 1840's - I will find out the description and get it to you. Thank you again, I much prefer to be pestered than see a picture disappear needlessly! Parsica (talk) 22:48, 7 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. You should check out that discussion about the McCord Museum photo again - the creative commons license is insufficient. I look forward to seeing the information to the Elmsley Villa image - a Toronto Public Library reference number would also be helpful. Please also take note of my comments, re. cropping, copyright tags, etc. Thanks!--Skeezix1000 (talk) 15:24, 8 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

McCord Museum

[edit]

Hello. I have asked you this before, but please crop the McCord Museum watermark off the side of the image before uploading the image to Wikipedia Commons. It is a big job for others to now go back and crop those images -- the backlog of images with watermarks to remove is tremendous. Adding the {{remove watermark}} tag is of little help and simply creates a lot of work for other people. It would be extremely helpful if you assisted by uploading cropped images over some of the ones you have already uploaded. Feel free to ask me questions on how to do so.--Skeezix1000 (talk) 20:15, 9 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

McCord uploads

[edit]

Hello. First, thanks so much for uploading so many great images to the Commons. However, given how many images you upload, it is really important that the image description and categories be done properly. Your output is so large, that it is virtually impossible for others to keep up with you and clean up your uploads. For example, this image was not categorized at all (!), and even though it is an 1886 composite photograph you had it dated as 2013. The upload wizard isn't great when it comes to uploads of historic photos from Flickr - you need to do some clean up afterwards. For example, see this clean up as an example of what I am talking about. I am available for any questions you may have. Thanks for your help. --Skeezix1000 (talk) 20:15, 12 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
