Note on PSF images[edit]

Hello! Thank you for categorizing Image:Dromedary (PSF).png. I noticed you've been uploading several PSF images yourself as well; thank you for helping out!

I just wanted to drop you a line to let you know that all PSF images must use the ScottForesman template with the same parameters; a short description and link to the original raw scan. Please use this template and the page format you see at Image:Dromedary (PSF).png, and on existing PSF images please leave these templates as they are rather than changing them to the traditional Information template. All images by Pearson Scott Foresman must use the template, as it automatically adds the correct attribution, link to the raw scan, and the proper licensing template.

There's no need to add the Retouched template to PSF images, as they are all retouched and adding the template to every single one would be overkill. You don't need to add the original upload log either; just a link to the original raw scan is enough.

A note on licensing as well; when you retouch or improve a PD work, you don't use the PD-self template (or PD-ScottForesman-raw ) as it is not your original work. You changed the image, but that doesn't mean copyright transfers to you or that you have the right to license it differently than it was already licensed. You just use the original license; in this case, just PD-ScottForesman, which is already included in the ScottForesman template.

Again, thank you very much for your efforts in categorizing images and helping with PSF uploads! If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me on my talk page. Cheers! -- Editor at Largetalk 21:50, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, the info is perfect this time! It goes much quicker with the ScottForesman template, doesn't it? Not as much info to bother with ;)
About categorization; if you're uploading a large batch of images at a time and don't have the time to cat them right away (or just aren't sure how to categorize some of them yourself), adding Uncat at the bottom of the page when uploading will prevent the bot from marking them as untagged and sending you long messages on your talk page ;) You can then get back to them later, or volunteers cleaning out the uncategorized pages will do it for you.
Again, if you have any questions please feel free to ask! Best, -- Editor at Largetalk 02:31, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Oksmith!
Tip: Add categories to your files
Tip: Add categories to your files

Thanks a lot for contributing to the Wikimedia Commons! Here's a tip to make your uploads more useful: Why not add some categories to describe them? This will help more people to find and use them.

Here's how:

1) If you're using the UploadWizard, you can add categories to each file when you describe it. Just click "more options" for the file and add the categories which make sense:

2) You can also pick the file from your list of uploads, edit the file description page, and manually add the category code at the end of the page.

For example, if you are uploading a diagram showing the orbits of comets, you add the following code:

This will make the diagram show up in the categories "Astronomical diagrams" and "Comets".

When picking categories, try to choose a specific category ("Astronomical diagrams") over a generic one ("Illustrations").

Thanks again for your uploads! More information about categorization can be found in Commons:Categories, and don't hesitate to leave a note on the help desk.

Redirect[edit]

I fixed it; in redirects to a category you just put rather than putting the colon in as you do when linking to a category. Searching for "Shadoof" now brings you to Category:Shaduf. Cheers! -- Editor at Largetalk 23:46, 19 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Notification about possible deletion[edit]

Some contents have been listed at Commons:Deletion requests so that the community can discuss whether they should be kept or not. We would appreciate it if you could go to voice your opinion about this at their entry.

If you created these pages, please note that the fact that they have been proposed for deletion does not necessarily mean that we do not value your kind contribution. It simply means that one person believes that there is some specific problem with them, such as a copyright issue. Please see Commons:But it's my own work! for a guide on how to address these issues.

Please remember to respond to and – if appropriate – contradict the arguments supporting deletion. Arguments which focus on the nominator will not affect the result of the nomination. Thank you!
